Just open the catalyst already.
many legendaries are bought only for the effect, for example priest's reverse leap of faith glyph is bound to Vault of Heavens - and having it at 210 is bad. xd
This whole profession system in shadowlands shows they are incapable of thinking further than one patch ahead. It was obvious from the start that within weeks/months of the expansion coming out, the rank 1-3 crafted base pieces would be absolutely useless, yet still needed to be crafted so you could grind experience towards rank 4 where you can actually start making gold.Another pathetic display of gameplay knowledge and this hotfix changes absolutely nothing.
Is this live? I don't see it on the vendor
So 4800g a pop plus all the other mats to make a rank 5? Maybe for someone who wants to make their own and doesn't mind the difference between 249 and 291?Otherwise I can't really see any value to this item.
You guys are all why I stopped reading comments. The reason for this is upgrade simple: players with many alts and casual guilds can now easily craft better-than-quest-greens leggos without have to first grind out 3 ranks of trash. Those chars are gonna be running around in World Quest, LFR, and the occasional Normal/Heroic Sepulchar gear from Timewalking weeklies, and they are gonna have fun. This is not for ppl making money selling base legendaries, min/maxxers, M+20 and hard core raiders. This is a big game with a lot of ways to play, so if something doesn't help you, that doesn't mean it's a waste of time
Since everyone is saying "Why does this exist", I will explain:Currently, I have a little less than 300k gold across my entire account. The price for a rank 7 legendary on my server for my main is 80k. To get a Unity, a Tank, and a DPS legendary, I will need to spend 240k gold, leaving me only 60k gold left. I am currently unable to have a raid v. M+ legendary on my main (above rank 3). I am currently unable to craft new legendaries for any alts (above rank 2). I usually use this final patch of an expansion to try new specs or fun builds, but I am currently unable to craft a legendary at any reasonable ilvl to seriously try something. In the last week or so, I have geared my holy paladin to try healing and my legendary is my lowest ilvl piece and is actively bringing down my ilvl by multiple points. With this new item, I will be able to take my blacksmith that has not ranked-up any legendary pieces and at least make a rank 5 legendary that is not a downgrade from ZM greens. This is a huge improvement for any player that does not have the time to grind or the savings to spend millions of gold on legendaries. I have guildies that have legitimately spent about 1 mil this patch alone. Insane gold grinds should not be tied to player power.
Despite all the rather expected "what is this nonsense" responses, this probably is going to change the legendary market slightly. Rank 5s are still going for a lot more now than rank 1s are, simply due to step in costs and leveling requirements of legendaries. With this item, rank 5 should lower quite a bit (but unlikely not lower than rank 1 + 4.8k usually), meaning there's going to be a significant difference between <5, 6 and 7. And I guess the end result of this is to phase out r1-4 entirely, as with this change there is no reason to not buy (or craft!) a rank 5 or higher.Mind that it doesn't make leveling a pattern to rank 4 easier, as the rank1>5 craft is still technically a rank 1, so only 5xp. Sure, it makes rank 1 > 2 a bit more profitable (at least early on), and might actually be worthwhile for rank 2 > 3 as well (even though you need twice as many). But for rank 3 > 4? Doubtful this makes a difference for that. Tl;dr. Easier step in market, still quite an investment to make gold.
If they fixed the "leveling" of legendary crafting, so it didn't take 15 worthless crafts per level to get to something that people might actually want, I'd start to think better of the system. As it is, this is a band-aid for a gaping head wound.
Apparently you have to do the Runecarver quest in Korthia to unlock the ability to use these items. That would be nice to know before spending 5400g on them.
For those that don't understand why this exists, it's to lower the huge gold investment you have to overcome to even get into the legendary crafting market. You can craft the rank 5s to get you closer to the higher ranks without having to grind out ranks 1-4. It's also pretty nice for alts.
