On my frost mage, I just finished testing Dragonwrath staff versus Loshan, Terror Incarnate + Fetish of the Hydra off-hand. Note that I have the +10 int sha gem in Loshan and the Eye of the Prince prismatic socket added from the MoP legendary quest line.Standing inside a MoP timewalking dungeon, the tooltip damage amounts for Frostbolt and Ice Lance were around 8.22% higher with Loshan+Fetish than with Dragonwrath. I then did some testing in Stormwind at the single target dummy to avoid cleave from Ice Lance. I did several hundred Ice Lance casts with both combos. Dragonwrath NEVER ONCE procced on Ice Lance cast, but it did proc around four times over 100 casts on my Ancient Flame (Azerite Essence) DoT. That matches what other people have observed about the staff only working with DoTs.This means that classes that can use the sha-touched weapons with a socketed off-hand can do better with that than the Dragonwrath staff.
Or you can just save yourself the aggravation and do it in SL gear that'll scale down...I mean, come on. Do we REALLY need to turn everything into something that it doesn't have to be, in the name of "optimization!"...?I've been playing 12 years and save for artifacts and leggos, I have not saved a single piece of gear once it became obsolete, not since the wardrobe entered the chat. I sure as hellfire ain't turning prepping for this event into a second job, and I'm sure I'll do just swimmingly all the same. The design choices aimed at causing stress/FOMO on the other hand, is a different matter. You don't have to buy into it though. Stress is not healthy. The sets are not going away, if you don't get them all this round, they'll be there come the next one. If you think it's fun prepping and chasing however, I ain't judging, you do you! But anyone feeling upset should seriously consider what choices they're making.
When I tested ilvl was down to 45. (disc priest) Which is right?
Ohh restrictions! A gamer's favorite words!
Lmao, all these people complaining about OpTiOnAl content... If you don't want to farm for the gear don't, if you don't want to Mage Tower 2.0 don't... Its not required... Blizzard put in extra content for casuals and hardcore players alike and it can be done as it is with the gear you currently have on as long as you meet the level requirement... Everyone complaining in here are acting like children that play roblox and expect the content to be so easy that at the wave of a snap they completed the challenge...OH and btw min maxing was created by the players not by blizz.. Look at how easy vanilla raids were, the hardest part of them wasn't mechanics or metrics but getting enough people to do them... It is ok to critize the game we all love but make it constructive and stop acting like you deserve a participation trophy
is it worth getting SOO gear with alot of sockets but <50 ilvl? Since gear will scale down and not up wouldnt it be more profitable to farm higher ilvl pieces with no sockets but >50 ilvl, basically are the sockets worth it?
Was anyone who tested this on the PTR able to confirm that oldworld socket gear, lets say item level 40 gear does NOT scale UP to ilvl50 in 9.1.5 Mage Tower?
Imo they should implement a NPC, who sells you gear just for that mage tower encounter. You cant use anything else but this. Its not a dungeon to level up or get your normal raid gear, its a challenge. So it should be fair and no one should find anything to abuse the system and bypass this challenge with overpowered gear. If someone does 1500 dps instead of the calculated 1000 by Blizz, then of course its not fair anymore. Please just disable everything, even sockets, gems, enchants and so on. Nobody wants to grind "mage tower gear", that you already had anyway, but sold it a long time ago. Just let skill decide and no compensation through optimised gear.
