If he was on the pvp design team... we are better with out all of them, lol.I am one of those who think that wow is sick because of these people who are leaving, once all the designers who have made wow have expansions as bad as BFA or WOD are out of blizzard, we can dream with that great game we wish.
i agree with him on all views.
And more and more will be hired to replace them. Someone leaving is not a new thing. One of his points is that WoW is not as focused on guilds... and he's right. But the core group of players from Classic have slowly been leaving, too, and those who remained (like me) are not interested in joining an entirely new group. I also have about 23 fewer hours in the day to play WoW, so group content is not optimal.
I'm not sure what he means by players being de-centered. There's a lot of NPC conflict going on but the game goes out of its way to lick your feet to prop up the power fantasy of being the Garrison Commander, Order Hall Leader, Champion of Azeroth, etc. The pitch is clear on the back of new starter edition packaging-- the game is treated like a single-player experience. Players as a whole may be de-centered, but on an individual level, the story revolves around you. I always felt that was awful.
Players of "modern" wow likes no stress/high reward play. On top of that players have no idea of what socializing means and it's CONS and PROS (It's so easy to find new guy to fill the spot, and it's totally whatever if they stick around afterwards). In order to have your goals reached, you'd need to lower down yourself and sometimes be part of a company(of others), that otherwise would never be your choice. Essentially now, people are independent with doing anything they want and of course... with how the world changed, everyone's a snowflake now. What this guy represents is basically much "harsher" environment, BUT<!> is a more realistic one, which is what game needs. It is already a fantasy like game, but it still need some down-to-earth treatment, not everything should be so much dumbed down. It's silly. It's upsetting he's leaving. But I understand why he did.
* Ok the guy didnt agree with the direction of the game he was working on so he left.* His concerns will never be direct addressed by Blizzard.* He basically is advertising that he is unemployed, believes in social aspect of games and throws in "pillars" buzzword like a job resume.--Honestly unless the lead developer of WoW left spouting $%^& like this and saying he was quashed by top level management, nothing is changing. This guy is a single voice in a chorus and listening to just him ignores every other developers opinion. Are people going to agree with him? Yes. The whole point of his message was to resonate with popular player base feelings so he could get traction for his advertisement for future employment. But is he a whistleblower or just a disgruntled employee - we will likely never know.
Seems like a good move for both him and Retail WoW. I like retail far more than classic. I have been playing since 06', but the move to improved solo experience is a huge boon imo. I find his kind of rhetoric uninspired and wrongheaded. I have far more rewarding social experiences now than I did during the early days. This is, in part, because it has gone away from large group, small story settings. In solo/small group settings with deep, rich story I can engage meaningfully with actual friends rather than as one member of a mob with many toxic interactions.I absolutely wish him the best and I hope those who enjoy classic style environments have their game...retail wow is for those like me.
Terrible loss of talent
Great person, terrible "developer". So is this guy part of the reason as to why PvP talents haven't been changed in YEARS?Also he was part of "Class Design"? LOL what exactly did he design? Adding a few PvP talents over the course of a decade wow what a legacy. Just confirms how being a blizzard developer is by far the easiest job to have in the world. "Oh do I got to add a PvP talent this year? Hmmmm this may take a while"Disgusting and good riddance. I still think he's a great human being even though he never did his job.
Thank god he left! the shadow priest revamp was awful imagine taking fun and engaging gameplay and making it the absolute worst thing to play..
Has this guy ever been in an actual guild ? Guilds are literally family like and there are so many of them. I don't understand how this point doesn't get across unless you are joining mass invite guilds which also have groups of people that meet I dont understand his hate its very confusing to me
Abandon the already sinking ship.
I love how the devs have been saying for years that "if you don't work in game development, you don't know what you're talking about," as a shutdown whenever players have had complaints about how they've felt the game has been going. Well given this testimony and the general loss of nearly all of the veteran staff, it's clear the developers don't know what they're doing either. Honestly i'm starting to think that the only reason the devs started listening to the community so much is because they couldn't figure out what to do themselves. If Shadowlands isn't the last expac of WoW then it's gonna be a slow decline. Not into outright shutdown (although that one day will happen) but WoW on its whole will start slipping away from what it once was, a solid mmorpg, into a muddled amalgam of mmo and rpg, where neither element is really maximized and both feel dissatisfying. I'll stick with it though. I've been in this boat 16 years and by God i'll go down with this ship when it's time comes. Shame to see so much talent being lost, best of luck to Chris, mabye he'll go meet up with Metzen and whatnot.
I dont have age and free time to spend hours doing group content on WoW just like on vanilla or BC anymore, so, i love to be able to do solo things.I dont care about my char not being the "golden boy", because I LOVE to read the books and stories and comics and feeling like part of something big like Lord of The Rings, but not being the mary sue.anyway, best of lucky for him on the world outside Blizzard. :)
This kinda make me feel weird. I love the social aspect of the game, back in the days and even until now. But I kinda disagree that "servers need people to be griefing others and make drama" point. I'm not a pvp'er myself but I do play with a guild of RL friends and everytime we get into some pvp we rescue each other and go on with our life just fine, but It's never fun for me, having to fight other player for no reward or reason, this just give me the sensation of wasting my time. I like the solo experiences in WoW, I like the option to go with my friend and together maximizing our time too. I can only hope blizzard can keep expanding and investing their time in those system, I really like vision's of Nzoth, not for the fun of doing multiple runs, but the option to play alone or go with my friends. Both went fine and neither were a problem. Also, magetower was one of the best experiences I had in WoW history and it was a single player experience, so I think that kinda proves the point that Blizzard can be sucessful in doing single and multi player experiences.
