Obvious bug is obvious.Holding your self-cast key (e.g. alt) while casting a reticle targeted spell without a macro now casts the spell at your location, which I don't believe it did before 9.2.5. On a similar note, and work without modifiers, but only if your target/focus is yourself. It's almost certainly a bug between those two interactions, given that you have to use your self-cast key as a modifier for this to work.
FYI the Self Cast key option is missing anyone any ideas to why?
They try and 'fix' things with the 'reticule' spells, like making Grappling hook (outlaw rogues) and Gateways (Warlocks) to not be overused in certain terrains, by setting up pathing rules (like 'there is not a path to that area' thingy). But, in dungeons, specially TIGHTLY SPACED ONES (who remembers Grimrail depot, BfA's prison one, etc?) it's just a matter of turning your character and when you try to drop that reticule spell (manually or macroed) some lamp in the ceiling or part of the ceiling still stands out to break it?And that's not all, in pvp there can be areas in them that players might even use for that, to prevent, specially ranged (mages and hunters mostly) from targeting their reticule spells properly, but in dungeons, tanks that only play melee classes do this too, and pull the mobs towards areas that make it hard placing these.
If this was intended you wouldn't have to get it to work so weirdly. I actually do think you should be able to macro it to just work on your target, but it seems like they don't want you to be able to do that.
This is very much a bug. If it was a feature you wouldn't need to go through all the modifier jank to make it work. There's a bunch of reasons why you were only ever able to aim targeted aoes at your feet or at your cursor (hunter traps are a big example of targeting trivializing them). That said, I do wish this was just a thing and balanced around (ie. make @target work in general, and then add arming times to traps etc)
I thought this was an ok thing at first but then saw the comments about the problems in pvp... ouch O.O (Thanks for the education!)Perhaps it would be ok if the functionality was removed or at least limited in pvp settings. But for now it certainly seems unintended, with how you have to set it up. We'll have to wait and see I guess.I'd like to point something out as a controller player though - we don't necessarily need this functionality, or even @cursor macros tbh. With the ConsolePort addon (basically essential to use controller) you can have a fixed crosshair in on your screen; as you move the camera it also moves the crosshair (I have my crosshair just above the centre of the screen). With default settings the first button push for our reticle spell makes the target circle appear where the crosshair is aimed, you can adjust your aim with the camera, and the 2nd push uses the spell at that location.I play Warrior, and my camera is always pointed either where I'm going (Heroic Leap) or at the enemies (Kyrian Spear), and I've never had a problem aiming my spells even in the cramped dungeons.Of course some people may not find it so easy; I am very used to playing on a controller. But I thought I'd mention it for those wondering if @target macros are 'needed' on controller, as many kb+m players have never tried a controller.
Just to be very clear, this is an exploit. The game gets confused between the modifiers, self-cast-modifier and the target modifer. This exploit has existed for quite a while now. I heard about it from some Russian streamer in June last year. Since then it has grown quite popular in PvP. Havn't really played retail since March last year though.Regardless, perhaps it is time to implement for real for aoe recticles now. Either way, the exploit naturally cannot stay.
So a simple#showtooltip/use Death and Decaywon't work? The modifier kep is required? What about the following, to cast at the target with no modifier and as normal with alt pressed?#showtooltip/use Death and Decay;Death and DecayEdit: Yep, confirmed, the stupid modifier key is required. Hopefully Blizzard fixes that.
This is great from a PVE point of view, probably not so great for PVP though.
is there a version where i can do @target without having to mod it ? cuz, i already use the keybinds alt on everything. and my finger dont reach shift and ctrl.
Super. In that case, they should make it part of the game, fully supported, and not requiring the modifier key. This is an obvious QoL improvement, it makes the game more fun to play, and thus it should be allowed. Heck, it should be embraced. PvP impact can be trivially mitigated by giving traps a 5s arming time versus players.
