Pretty sure this falls under something that should be fixed. #SomeChanges
Maitoz commentary in his clip is amazing and hysterical.
Not entirely true about Flamestrike. The direct damage part does have an aoe cap. The ground dot does not have an aoe cap, but same-rank Flamestrike ground dots do not stack. Doesn't the downranking spellpower penalty become more severe in BC? Not sure if it will still be a thing to downrank Flamestrike just to get two ground dots up, especially as kiting makes the ground dot part useless. Arcane Explosion is also affected by AoE caps. Blizzard made a change to it in Patch 2.4.0:
Now that is a great find. Some sites made it seem like AoE caps just appeared out of nowhere with Patch 2.2, and didn't give any indication that these were at the very least present and being tuned during Beta, let alone the bluepost documenting their existence before the pre-patch. I wonder why they were delayed for so long though, or if they were already present for the spells that were not listed in 2.2?
I'm still trying to figure out why this is even news...
"Is the area of effect spell damage cap enough to stop players in 2021?" Thanks Tom, back to the Studio. Those sentences :)
I love watching people slowly remember all of the things they didn't like about old expansions as if meta didn't exist back then.
Does it matter? If mages could AoE farm in BC, then they should be able to in Classic BC.
Sadly you're right, as the only way to fix the problem would require major re-writes, either of the pathing scripts or every AOE spell effect in the game to hard cap how many targets it can affect. They're not going to make either change so all we can hope for is more effective regulation of bots.
article is highly subjective
This is a pretty dumb conversation. Why would this be changed further? It's already been massively nerfed. Mages are one of the best AoE classes (pally is better), but so what? It's one of the strengths for a mage. Warlocks and hunters are better damage dealers, and warlocks can reach similar xp/hr in slave pens just dotting mobs and running. Should both of those classes be nerfed as well? Should they change the TBC raid encounters so they are more suited for melee dps to even the playingfield? This is coming from a fury warrior who is pretty sad about the character being bad in TBC, btw., but it's still dumb to ask for further changes.
It's obviously not anything like an AoE cap that's the issue, just stupid exploits. This is why they made it a standard to put invisible walls EVERYWHERE since Cataclysm, if not in Wrath. It breaks immersion, but this exploiting just can't be allowed.
It would make sense that mobs would just reset if you killed them too slowly. Or even better, do it like jungle mobs in LoL, those have "kite bar" and that bar fills up if you are kitting the mob if the bar fills itself completely, mob becomes immune to damage, heals rapidly and resets to it's original place. Also the bar itself doesn't reset until the mob is killed or reset. This will prevent all of that AoE/mob pathing exploits like we can see in videos above.
"fire mage still being fire mages because fire is fire" ehhhhh :(
