Today we will take a look at the DPS balance in Sanctum of Domination, based on data from the weeks of January 4th and January 11th. For this analysis we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Mythic Sanctum of Domination statistics
.
Warcraft Logs' Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Sanctum of Domination Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
under the Shadowlands Patch 9.1.5 partition for Mythic difficulty in the weeks of January 4th and January 11th. We will be looking at data for the 95th percentile, plus showing the overall results to paint a better picture.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the state of class balance for Sanctum of Domination in Shadowlands Season 2, looking at the data of the most recent week in the raid.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs that are considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they actually are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players will tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing even further the gap between top and bottom specs.
Position of specs for the 95th percentile might be skewed by alternative strategies and parse funneling. For that, we're including the chart showing the result for all percentiles to paint a better picture for all specs.

So Survival is the "best" Hunter spec and it's still by far the least popular judging by the number of logs. It has 1/20th of BM's logs and fewer than half compared to Outlaw or Affliction.
3.4% of the Hunter logs come from their best performing spec
.
How long until the devs (hello Ion) accept that they messed up Survival? You can't sugarcoat it with "well it's performing badly so nobody plays it" anymore. And before anyone brings up the argument that people just underestimate Survival... this is Mythic and it's over half a year into the tier. Fix the spec.
They do really well in m+ tho, and imo no spec should be great at both
They DO deal high ST damage though, unless they have to move out of the boss within the 20 (during Coordination Assault) to 40s (BloodLust/Heroism), since those give them the best stats (Attack power and Haste), but even then, they can steal deal full DPS on 'range' for 15s with Aspect of Eagle, and EVEN THEN, don't forget that other 'melee' would be put into similar situation, while SV still would reign (AoE, DoTs, Bombs, and etc). They simply don't have a very high ST hitter, they have the bombs but those work mostly (And magnificently) on AoE situations (hence they outdps the other 2 in short, and overall AoE DPS).
You could test them, for example on World Bosses, BM and MM could pull ahead on ST, with SV behind, but when all those CDs go down, SV's DPS is the only one 'not dropping fast', as with the other 2 (and other CD dependant specs), mainly because, if you keep it 100% on your target, Serpent Sting deals a high amount of damage (SV's SS is better than MM's 'copied' one from legendary).
People are just hipocrit when criticizing SV, since they go and play 'melee' on other classes, even if some (if not most) of them would be underperformed by their SV counterpart, which is, I still repeat this, a 'hybrid' (melee+ranged).

mages and rogues were great in both of them for years
Spec not a Class. Survi is a spec. Mage and Rogue is a class. FYI. If you think of it, every class has at least 1 decent spec for M+ and for raiding. It may not be the smae... but first and foremost you play X Class. You are not bound to spec and if you are like "I'm Fury Warrior and I will always be a Fury. F@@K Arms and Prot.", then you are not really a high end player to begin with and nothing above should interest you in any way. Also Wowhead is manipulating a bit in the stats overall, or not saying all the truth, but w/e. Wowhead posts w/e people are eager to read and fight over, even if it's pointless info for majority of playerbase.

Imo casters and all melee should be at the top of the charts within like 5% depending on the fight and hunters with ranged should be at the bottom.
Casters and melee have to deal with the most mechanics while dpsing and that’s why they should be balanced this way.
BM and MM do not and have complete freedom to avoid mechanics without losing uptime and that’s why they should be balanced lower.
you cant move while casting aimed shot
then just don't cast aimed shot when you need to move
Have you actually played MM in any decently competitive context, or are you just being an idiot 'cause you don't know any other way to be?
Aimed Shot, if you spec into MM's single-target legendary and talents, makes up, like...roughly 40% of the total damage, and it has roughly a 2.3 second cast with the normal Haste levels the spec aims for currently. It's very possible to lose big chunks of damage if you don't time Aimed Shots properly to deal with mechanics...the same as the casters. Sure, MM can fill better with their other abilities during movement, but they're not BM. They don't have this effortless way to deal with all movement mechanics while doing all of their DPS.

"Is my spec bad? No, it's the entire community that's wrong!"
