looking at its effect isnt much use here :P so i was thinking that to activate this crystal you probably need to have shannox's spear thrown at it as its the only melee to hit it. (effect says strikes.)

Note: Does not need to be within the center of the spear explosion. I accidentally placed it randomly on the ground and it charged from the next spear attack even though the spear wasn't directly on top of it. As long as it's within the circle of fire jets, it seems to charge fine.

Couldn't figure out what to do with it, decided to place it on the ground when shannox died.... The effect consumes it and it will do nothing what so ever, apparently a spear needs to hit it or something?

Easiest way to do this solo from 110+ on any caster class.

Step 1: Set to 10 Man
Step 2: Take off most of your gear.
Step 3: Once you've spawned Shannox, kill Rageface Immediately (reason to keep some gear on). This is because Shannox has overlap on his ability to command Rageface to stun you for 30s. Do NOT kill Riplimb
Step 4: Drag the boss to a small enclosed area (near the instance portal or other enclosed area with limited room).
Step 5: summon your combat pet (images, Earth/Fire Ele, shadowfiend, treants, low level trinket summons, whatever), Shannox will NOT cast Crystal traps unless there is more than one target in his aggro pool. You may have to go through CD for your combat pets a couple of times to get all 3 fragments.
Step 6: lure Riplimb onto crystal traps and wait for them to break then loot fragments.
Step 6: combine and drop them on the spear location (hence why you go to an enclosed area to make it easier to drop it on spear spots without having to run all over the place)
Step 8: loot your charged fragment and reset the fight by either running out of the instance or just dying. You DO NOT want to kill him as the next part after the quest mini-boss is another main boss farm section).

Of course, if you have a buddy who can spare a minute or 2 and knows how to just auto Shannox one time then do nothing else all fight this becomes much easier. Though killing Rageface still speeds things up quite a bit even with a friend.
