This food is notable because it is the first food to be added with Cataclysm that is made with cooking, restores health and mana, and doesn't provide a buff (due to being made from a commonly-found item). It doesn't restore as much as the stand-alone health or mana restoring foods, or the higher-end buff foods, but it does restore as much as the lower-end buff foods, thus providing a happy medium between restoring lots of health and restoring lots of mana (instead restoring a moderate amount of each). It will also hopefully (going by the name, rather than the recipe) make the currently-useless Murglesnout good for something, since right now they are good for nothing other than selling to a vendor or feeding to hunters' pets.

Note: On a cost-effective basis, if eating the cooked food does not appeal to you, you are better off to vendor the non-cooked fish rather than the cooked food.

Facts:

Based on the Scalding Murglesnout icon, this red fish turns BLUE when cooked.

Theories:

Seems like this particular color change occurs under one of the following (cooking) circumstances:

When fish dies, it turns blue.
Chemical reaction: When fish is cooked together with other ingredient (besides water of course), it turns blue.
When fish is hot, it turns blue.

Conclusions:

Considering that the fish dies a while after we fish it, and that it's still red in our bag, the death theory is rejected.
Considering that the Scalding Murglesnout recipe doesn't mention other ingredients, the chemical reaction theory is rejected.
Considering that the fish remains red even in Uldum, and that the weather in Uldum is always hot, the fish may turn blue only above the boiling point of 100°C... (?)

Advice for consumers: Color change occurs only on fresh fish... If you cook it and it's still red, DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT eat it.
(If you however decide to go for it because you ran out of other health/mana food, consider the toilet paper as your next best friend.)

Gosh..! What if Blue Dye is actually made of Murglesnout..?

Recipe:

Boil 500ml water with 500gr of fresh Murglesnout for about an hour in low heat, to create Scalding Murglesnout.
Remove from heat.
Use an Egg Smasher to make Scalding Murglesnout puree.
Strain.
Omg, my first homemade Blue Dye. Smells like heaven.

This dish does not count towards the Set the Oven to "Cataclysmic", but late at night I find myself not really caring and just grabbing it anyway.
