They are "grenades" so I suppose you CAN throw them while moving. Like all the other grenades until today. If they were bombs you couldn't. At least I think so...

I can see these becoming extremely annoying when fighting a frost-mage engineer. It will give them a 3rd frost nova (assuming they have water elemental).

The full Materials for 10 ( 2x5 ) frost grenades are :

4 Fel Iron bars
1 Primal water
2 Netherwaeve Cloth
2 Elemental blasting powder ( 4 Powders = 2 motes of fire, 4 motes of earth)

double the radius (6yds) than normal grens plus you do not need to care about dots, i would say this is quite good against melee for any class to use (or good for melees to use against runners)

its good for all classes really who are in a spot like being attacked buy 3 or 4 people at once on battle grounds i find these even more so usefull in wsg and ab ect

On the 2.2 PTR the recipe for icy blasting primers takes 1 primal water, 2 cloth, and 2 elemental powder and makes TEN blasting primers. Again each blasting primer goes to make five bombs, so one primal water gives you 50 bombs. This change makes these bombs much more affordable and viable.

As of patch 2.2, you can now make 50 of these from a single Primal Water.. assuming you have the appropriate amounts of the other materials. Reduces the cost of these significantly, though.

The best grenade for kiting people, compared to Adamantite Grenade ( http://wowhead.com/?spell=30217 ), the root does not break on any damage. Also, very useful to use these to level up, not the cheapest mats, but they are very useful.

Very good pvp item for warlocks.

Even as a frost mage, if you are fighting say a rogue and he pops CLoS to get out of your frost nova, are you better off using Adamantite Grenades instead? I'm assuming the CLoS effect has a 90% chance to resist the Frost Grenade effect as well, but probably wouldn't work against stuns.

Its something that should be tested really. Not all elemental damage counts as a spell. For example Judgement of Blood deals holy damage, piercing armour. But doesnt seem to count as a spell in such a sense that Cloak of Shadows does nothing to stop it.

changed for wrath. Now does over 1k physical damage, and slows target speed by 50% for 6 seconds.
I hope they change the name to shrapnel grenade, since frost grenade no longer makes sense.

As a Rogue Engy, I LOVE these things. Esspecially since the change in 3.0....They do far more damage now, and crit a lot. They have no limit on how many people they hit in that area either. I've used them on the wyrms in Magister's to great effect. In pvp an AoE Movement impair is great. I love tossing these when a mage blinks away from me, use this, then deadly throw when it wears off, really no way you aren't catching someone.

It seems that these grenades stay Orange much longer than the website suggests. Perhaps its this new patch, but when I was just making some grenades, they didn't go yellow until 360. Given their pretty cheap materials, you can easily use these grenades to go all the way from 335-360.

stilll "lovable" as a tool for mages and other rogue targets. Its now a "physical" effect which means it slows a rogue for the full duration of his/her CLoS. And with the dmg nerf in 3.0.3, that would be its only thing its still rly usefull for.

In a recent patch, materials required for many professions lower level skills were reduced. With the above mentioned mats +1 more Primal Water, you can make 100 Frost Grenades. Happy Freezing :)

(Total Mats for 100 Frost Grenades are):

It doesn't say on the tooltip that it has lower chance to hit on lvl X.
So this item should still be *good* to use at 80, since, for example Fel Iron Bomb says it is "Unreliable against targets higher than level 76."
Any proof of this working against 80's too?

As a level 70 shadow priest, I used to rely on netherweave nets to gain distance from melee I fought in battlegrounds. They bought me a few seconds of time when my psychic scream was instantly trinketed, which was priceless... As a level 80, I dropped tailoring when Wrath hit because tailoring sucked. I ended up going with JC and engineering, but realized I missed the added utility of nets! After doing some research into tools engineering could offer in pvp, I came across these gems! After trying them out, I must say, they are AMAZING for level 80 pvp!

I have used 30-40 of these frost grenades in battlegrounds so far and I keep at least a hundred in my bags :) They work perfectly against level 80s and not one has failed me. There is a half second cast time and they are usable on the run. They are extremely useful to gain distance from melee! All the other level 80 bombs/grenades only place a stun that breaks on damage. This may be fine for mages (as seen in the Vurtne 60-66 Mage PvP movie), but for shadow priests, I need something to root my target that will not fail due to my dots! These don't break on damage despite my target being fully dotted up. This sets this item apart from any other engineering snare. The only item close to this in usefulness is Frostweave Nets. Unfortunately, frostweave nets share a cooldown with frost grenades! Frostweave nets also can only stop one target as opposed to an unlimited number within the area of effect like these can! (Note: if your target is not dotted and you are looking for a snare to use on the run, cobalt frag bombs DO WORK on the run and have the same .5 second cast time. I have often read that bombs are used only when standing still while grenades are usable on the run - THIS IS INCORRECT. I tested the bombs and they are usable on the run and even have the same animation as the grenades. They are essentially the same as frost grenades except they break on damage and frost grenades do not. I find frost grenades will be more useful more often because they don't break on damage so I don't bother to carry cobalt frag bombs...)

Powerful Uses:
Adds another tool into arsenal for peeling melee during a fight. For a shadow priest, psychic scream is trinketed immediately without fail and horrify does not last near long enough it seems. Lacking any other way to get distance, these grenades provide a way to get enough distance to get off a flash heal or a vampiric touch without getting interrupted or just beat to death.

If being chased by several enemy players, this can offer some time to get away and mount up to run...

VERY fun to use while riding passenger in a Siege weapon in Strand of the Ancients! You can stop 4-5 melee beating on the Siege weapon you are defending and cause them to get 5 seconds behind - enough for your teammates to take them out or force them to have to mount to catch up! I have won matches due to this!

Usable on Blood Beasts in the Saurfang ICC encounter. Not perfect because of the long cooldown, but still a great additional snare for this fight, especially in 10s where you may be short on snare/root classes. Has a 60 sec cooldown and Blood Beasts spawn every 40 sec (10 man), so you have one available for every second wave.

Much better than the High-Powered Bolt Gun in PvP, even at 85, but they do NOT share cooldowns.

Repeat, Frost Grenades and the Bolt Gun do NOT share cooldowns, so you can use them both.

If you're wondering if these work on the Molten Lock chests occasionally found throughout the Dragon Isles, the answer is yes.

Potentially useful if you're one of those classes that has no way of doing frost damage on their own.
