Totems, Idols and Librams are a great source of extra abilities only available to a few certain other classes in replace of a secondary ranged weapon.

Anyone know if this still reduces the cost of lower ranks of Lightning Bolt by the full 25 mana? (This could be tested with the HFP one also...)
Would it be able to make rank 1 cost 0 mana? And rank 2 cost 2 mana (talented)
If it does make R1 free... can it put you outside the 5 second rule so you can spam R1 while spirit regening...
Or you can fire completely free R1's for crits to spend on max rank.
It can also be spammed with the trinket that stacks mp/5 on spellcast over a short period... it's in kara somewhere...
It's fantastic for a shaman who can spam r2 bolts and stack a huge amount of mp/5 over a short period, it's effectively evo + low dmg for a shaman. With this totem you can get a little bit of spirit gen in there too...

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the totem from cache of the legion in Mechanar just as good for PvE damage, and even i terms of mana conservation?

Max damage from unimproved lightningbolt = 652
Mana cost for said bolt = 330

With this totem, which grants 25 less mana cost for a lightningbolt it goes down like this:

652/305 = 2,1377... = ~2,14 DPM

now let's do this with the totem from Mech which gives +55damage to lightningbolt (and chain lighnting).

707/330 = 2,1424.... = ~2,14 DPM

So tecnically it's just the same? or are my math skills that bad? ;)

IMO spend badges on Mazthoril, Cloak or DMG Trinket. I mean this is an epic item which costs 25 badges, I would like to see atleast the double amount of mana reduced for this to be worth it.

This totem is great for long boss fights.
LB rank 12 costs 270 mana with talent, so this totem saves 10% per LB cast. With clearcasting LB costs 162 mana, in this case totem saves you ~16.5% per LB cast.

Assuming 40% crit rate, and that 30% of all LB is cast under Clearcasting, and 150ms latency while casting so one LB will take 2.15s to cast (5/5 talented and LB Rank 12).

Totem of the Pulsing Earth:
Over 500s you will cast 232 LB, and 70 will be under Clearcasting, that is 162x27 + 70x10.8 = 5130 mana, or ~51.3 mp5
(keep in mind the less crit you have the better this totem is)

Totem of the Void:
Over 500s you will cast 232 LBs and this will after spelldamage coefficient add a total 139*39.29 + 93*58.93= 10941.8dmg, or 21.88 dps
(simplified that a crit will provide a flat double damage with 1/1 Elemental Fury)

Most people would say the Pulsing Earth is the best, but you can hardly compare them. One is for long mana draining fights, and the other does give you more pure damage. So keep both and swap them depending on what you're doing. For any content that you outgear and quite likely is chainpulling, the Pulsing Earth is by far the best of the two. On content that you don't speedpull you have time to regen your mana and the Void would benefit you more. However with the Pulseing Earth you can allow yourself to use gear with less crit and more spelldamage/haste and allow you to get more overall dps. As well in fights where you would move the Pulsing Earth would provide even more benefit as you wouldn't cast under Clearcasting as much.

In any case, if you're in a fight where you're not running OOM and don't have any more spelldamage and haste gear to use then the Void is best. With this in mind I would still say that in almost any case the Pulsing Earth is better. By the time you have the gear to suport removeing Pulsing Earth and use the Void, I'm pretty sure you already have Skycall Totem to put in its place instead which is much better.

Summary: Get this as soon as you can, and upgrade to the Skycall Totem once your gear gives you enough mana preservation to do so. If you happen to get the one from Mech keep it, it might be useful if you don't have badges to burn or the Skycall Totem drains just alittle too much mana.

Edit: I've been reflecting over this post, and the more haste rating you have, the better Pulsing Earth becomes - and when you stack haste you need all the mana you can get.
