These are known things to happen on use:

Summon a level 70 non-elite guardian which assists you in battle for 10 minutes.

Gift box with 5 Super Healing Potions and 5 Super Mana Potions.

Magical Crawdad Box containing a Magical Crawdad non-combat pet.

Mr. Pinchy's Blessing: Health increased by 1200. This effect persists through death and is considered a flask. 2 hour duration.

Furious Mr. Pinchy: Level 70 non-elite attacks you and your party. Has 5560 HP, with 3155 Mana.

This is a fishable item, you can have it from Highland Fishing Pools, in Terrokar forrest. You'll need flying mount and ~480 fishing skill at least. Respawn rate of the pools is around 1 hour, and the chance to get this is very low aswell (approximately under 1%). Good luck for it!

So this item actually disappears after you've used it 3 times? That would be quite disappointing with a 2 day cooldown on the uses and the time involved farming a Mr.Pinchy. :(

Yes it disappears after 3 uses. I've caught 2 Mr. Pinchys so far, finished off the last charge of the first one this morning. Still no pet, 6 days of agony to go :O

I'm not sure how the drop rate is figured on things such as things caught fishing where there is a skill level involved.

I caught another Mr. Pinchy before the cool-down was able to be used again (and I typically only go fishing in the lakes maybe once or twice a day ... if that). I must be either extremely lucky or the drop rate is wrong.

NOTE: fishing skill = 495 (375 skill, +20 fishing pole +100 lures)

BTW ... I would highly encourage people to save using the item until when in a group. There is nothing more entertaining than when a bad Mr. Pinchy comes out. I used it once in a group while in Steamvaults and another time while raiding in Karazhan ... funny stuff.

I have to wonder if the drop rate is accurate, or if I've just been lucky, but I caught my first Mr. Pinchy after my first 25 or so successful casts (which doesn't include casts where fish got away) into Highland Mixed Schools. He gave me Mr. Pinchy's Blessing twice, and a Benevolent Mr. Pinchy.

Last night I caught my second Mr. Pinchy after about 375 successful casts (over time - not all in one sitting!) First reward was another Benevolent Mr. Pinchy... I'm hoping for the crawdad pet for one of the next two wishes. :)

In total, I've caught 2 Mr. Pinchys out of a total of 400 successful casts. Both times I caught him in the Blackwind Lake/Skettis area.

My skill is 500 even. 375 skill, +20 fishing pole, +5 hat, +100 lure.

375 fishing + arcanite pole + aquadynamic.

at times it could still be a tricky catch but once you have your rhythm up there it's easy. make sure to keep your camera over your back for the walking elite giants along blackwind lake. good news is there's a graveyard at one of the lakes.

got mine on my second one, first charge. two left and i'm going to wait till i'm in kara or some place fun.

Gotten 5 pinchys so far 1 lost due to movement.
My droprate has been about 1 % not less then that atleast about 100 catches to get one sometimes 150. This is the outcome of my uses

1st charge: Mr. Pinchys Blessing
2nd charge: Furious Mr Pinchy
3rd charge: Furious Mr Pinchy

4th charge: Furious Mr Pinchy
5th charge: Mr Pinchys gift (5 healing 5 mana pots)

Make sure your inventory isn't full when you use it! If you get the pet or the gift box thing, it'll use a charge but you'll get nothing.

I caught both my Mr. Pinchys in the same day with the same hour, and haven't caught one since and that was 2 weeks ago. I've used all 6 charges and got Furious Mr. Pinchy 3 times, Magical Crawdad Box twice, and Mr. Pinchy's Blessing once. I use Arcanite Fishing pole with Eternium line, Lucky Fishing Hat, Extreme Angeling Boots, some random gloves with +2 fishing, and +75 fishin lures. So thats 375+40+5+5+2+75=502.

The Mr. Pinchy's Gift actually varies slightly...it will be 4-5 Super Healing Potions as well as 4-5 Super Mana Potions, It is not a set amount, but will always be at least 4 of each.

Only fished out of Highland Mixed Schools. There are a total of 17 Highland mixed schools in the three Fly-top only lakes in Terrokar Forest. 3 in the lake above Stonebreaker point, 4 that spawn in the lake just above and behind Allerian Stronghold, and 10 in Blackwind Lake/Skettis. Mr. Pinchy's drop rate appears to be about a 0.2% drop rate on successful casts (about 2 out of 1000 or 1 in 500 casts) so be prepared to spend alot of time on this.

Had 527 Fishing when i caught him, counting my lure...The game maximum:
375 Base Fishing, +35 Fishing Arcanite Fishing Pole, +5 Fishing High Test Eternium Fishing Line, +5 Fishing Lucky Fishing Hat, +5 Fishing Nat Pagle's Extreme Angling Boots, and +2 Fishing skill to glove enchant. and +100 Fishing Aquadynamic Fish Attractor.
You will no longer receive "your fish got away" messages at 525 fishing or higher (only attainable with all fishing tournament rare fish rewards and the Arcanite Fishing Pole won from the sunday Fishing Tournament.)

I got him very early this morning at about 3 am. I dont have full fishing yet i have about 368 and the Blue pole, hat, boots and 100+ lure.
I got the Healing and Mana pots on my first wish. :S
It must have been karma that let me catch him since the instance servers and battleground servers were offline at the time so i went fishing.

I think I was pretty lucky. I only really spent 2 hours (1 hour for 2 days about a week apart) fishing crawdads for one of our tanks and ended up with a Mr Pinchy. I was up in Skettis farming primal waters with a few of my guildies. They were helping me clear the areas by the pools since I'm a priest and was running out of using feathers. My fishing was at 375+100 lure + 20 pole at the time of capture (because I was a noob and forgot my boots in the bank). I got a decent number of getaways sadly but PvP servers are less than fun to try to get the nice fishing pole on alliance side.

I used a wish right away and ended up with a Benv Pinchy who I was quite amused with while farming but watching him curl and die was a little depressing ;_;. Tonight I used my second wish and ended up with the Magical Crawdad Box which I was really hoping for. I'm an avid pet collector and was quite worried that I'd have to continue fishing this several more times before I finally got lucky. Thankfully that's not the case! I'm now curious what my last wish will bring. I'm hoping for some mana pots. :)

I just turned 68 last night and got flight form, so I spent some time exploring, found one of the pools and figured, why not fish? So I put on my pole, hat, and gloves, popped a lure, and was fishing at 464 skill. I got several unsuccessful casts at first, then two good ones in a row. The second was a Mr. Pinchy. First wish - Benevolent Mr. Pinchy. Hoping the second is the pet!

Finally got my first Mr Pinchy after hundreds and hundreds of casts (didn't count, but somewhere between 350-500, I'm sure). Been fishing for weeks to get him. The first wish was the blessing and the second one was the pet!

Total fishing skill of 500 (375 base, plus 125 in buffs), so you do not need to have the max buffs plus max fishing to catch him. All you need is enough patience...

So very angry that I have to catch a third for a shot at getting my pet.

Definitely save your wishes for a raid though. When a giant crawdad appears, you'll be an instant hit.

If you raid save your wishes for a raid before a boss fight.

The Benevolent Mr. Pinchy not only stacks sunder armor, his debuff STACKS with the warrior sunder armor resulting in double the armor reduction. We had him out on Tidewalker and melee damage was much higher and he died faster than ever.

Mathematical probability (using the Law of Large Numbers):

Since there are 5 possible outcomes, the probability of getting the Magical Crawdad Pet is most likely 1 in 5, or 20%.

With three "charges" per Mr. Pinchy, the probability of getting the Magical Crawdad Pet with each individual Mr. Pinchy is 48.8%.

Getting 2 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 73.8% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 3 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 86.6% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 4 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 93.1% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 5 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 96.5% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.

Keep in mind that this is just statistical analysis of the probability of the event occuring before you start trying to get him. The Gambler's Fallacy says that no matter how many charges you've used unsuccesfully, each charge still hold exactly a 20% chance of yielding the pet. If you haven't gotten the Magical Crawdad Pet by your 5th Mr. Pinchy, then you'd best stop trying or you just might go crazy.

I was incredibly lucky... got mine in my second rotation of farming the pools, which only took me about two hours.

my first wish got me the magical crawdad pet.
my second wish got me a benevolent mr. pinchy combat pet.
my third wish got me another magical crawdad pet (they're not unique, apparently)

I have a fishing skill of 375, the fishing hat from the comp +5 the horde quest reward fishing pole +25 and a mate who makes me the +100 fishing lures (witch are now a 10min buff not 5mins anymore woot!!!) total of 505 fishing. Sometimes i will have 20 casts without a msg "your fish got away" and then i will get 4 in a row stating this:( . I Have to do the comp again this Sunday I think...
Anyways.
I have been farming the crawdads for my Guild tanks and to sell on the AH over the last month. I would have caught over 400 crawdads as well as a heap of Golden Darter, crates, scroll cases and the 2 huge fish you can now cook too:) (one golden vendor fish). but i have yet to see a mr pinchy drop /cry.. I reckon i have spent well over 10 hours fishing these schools now(i know exactly where they all spawn!!)
I envy anyone who catches it within there first couple of hours fishing!!!!!

I got 2 Mr. Pinchys (or is that Pinchies?) in 3 days of fishing. I am sure I was just incredibly lucky and I suspect it will be a loooong time before I see another one in my inventory.

I have only used one wish, which gave me the flask buff -- which was fine since I was raiding Maulgar that night. Multiple Pinchys share the 48 hr cooldown, so you can't be doubling up on wishes.

Crossing my fingers for the Magical Crawdad non-combat pet!

Btw, funny its listed as requiring lvl 55 (!) What lvl 55 is in flight-only fishing areas??

I caught two Mr. Pinchys within an hour of each other today.

375 Fishing skill, Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (+20) and an Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100) for a total of 495 buffed Fishing skill. No real fancy gear.

Caught both of them in Blackwind Lake in Skettis. One on the eastern shore and one on the western. I hate to admit it, but I spent a good deal of time catching my Mr. Pinchy. For the past week or so I've been farming the Highland Mixed schools every day for at least an hour (Netherdrake or any other 280% mount really helps). Today I farmed them literally ALL day, I was just chilling and talking to guildies on vent while I fished. I caught the first Mr. Pinchy after about 3-4 hours of fishing, I think. I would have stopped, but I got worried by not getting the pet in my first wish and continued fishing. I caught the second Mr. Pinchy no more than an hour later! (Incidently, I killed an Arakkoa that came up and smacked me while fishing, and he dropped a very nice world drop BoE epic tanking ring).

At this point, the time I've spent fishing for him has yielded me more raw Furious Crawdad than I can fit in my bank and bags and AH combined - literally several hundred of them, including a large number I cooked into Spicy Crawdad to sell on the AH. They haven't been selling well, but suffice it to say I kind of have the market cornered on my server ATM. If they manage to sell then catching Mr. Pinchy will also have been an EXTREMELY profitable venture - not to mention I have enough Spicy Crawdad and Golden Fishsticks for the whole guild, for many raids to come.

First wish gave me the "Mr. Pinchy's Blessing" Fort Flask buff. 5 wishes to go, next in two days....crossing my fingers for that Magical Crawdad box!!

I just fished up my 2nd Mr Pinchy... i got the first one at about 340-345 (Wearing Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 and Aquadynamic Fish Attractor ) and i just got the 2nd on just after i hit 356.

Ive only had a chance to have one wish, and i gots teh magical crawdad pet!

I'm a winner in terms of statistical probability. Got my magical crawdad on the third pool, from the first Mr. Pinchy use I fished. I had hit 375 fishing less than an hour prior.

So it is possible, just pure luck of the draw.

I have got to be one of the luckiest fishers in the world. Second day of farming for this, perhaps the 6th or 7th Mixed Highland pool, and it drops. I use the item immediately and receive the pet.

Just caught my first one, The first use gave me a buff of 500 Health that lasts 2 hours and is considered a flask.

Second use was a pile of Pots ( 5 Super Healing potions and 4 Super Mana Potions).

Third and final use was the Pet!

I feel like I just hit the lottery. Was fishing a Mixed Highland School in Skettis. Caught a Mr. Pinchy. I was pretty excited. I kept on fishing and caught another from the same pool. Might as well have been struck by lightning twice.

To top it off, I got the Magical Crawdad Pet off the first use. Time to go buy a lottery ticket.

I caught Mr. Pinchy with 368 fishing skill + 20 from the rod + 100 from a lure. I caught him in the pool by the tree @ Lake Jorune. I got 5 healing and mana potions the first time, the lame buff the 2nd time, and 5 healing and mana potions the 3rd time. No pet ; ;

I'm still waiting for my mini pet. I've used 7 wishes so far but yesterday my chances improved significantly. As you can see in the linked screenshot I caught 2 mr.pinchy on two subsequent casts... can anyone beat that?

No kidding about not being the only one to fish the pools! As a real fishing fan, it ticks me off when people fish in my spot, not cool IRL. But getting that new fish finder on the minimap, if you are the one to find the school, all the other fishermen are right behind you ready to fish in your spot. Oh well, fish or cut bait.

At first when I got Mr. Pinchy I was confused how it worked. I assumed it was the "pet" all ready, but it was not. I used it the first time and a strange arcane explosion thing happened. I was like, that's all? I came to wowhead.com and checked out what others said, and then I looked through my inventory.. And what do ya know?

I have a Magical Crawdad Box in my inventory! I must be lucky.. I got it my first charge on my first Mr. Pinchy.

Well, I'm lvl 62 with 375 fishing, +20 for the Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole and was using the +100 lure... I WALKED up to lake Ere'Noru and got a Mr. Pinchy on my first cast. Not bad. Come on Crawdad Pet!!!!

Either they've upped the drop rate on this, or I've gotten very very lucky. I'd fished up 3 Mr. Pinchy's since the expansion... and then last night, I fished up Pinchy numbers 4 and 5 on back to back pools, within 3 minutes of each other!

Yes Mr. Pinchy is obtainable with 470 skill. It took me less than 3 weeks of nonstop fishing to get the Magical Crawdad Pet.

I got my first Mr Pinchy at 307 base skill, using +5 hat, +20 rod, +100 lure, getting a huge ammount of misses, but was surprised, now i'm up to 340, and have got another. That's just random luck for you :)

Can anyone confirm if Mr. Pinchy's 3 wishes will repeat. I mean if you fish up Mr. Pinchy is there a chance you'll get the same health buff 3 times in a row, or is it always 3 of the 5 possible results?

Perhaps I got lucky but my fishing was only at 330 when I caught Mr. Pinchy, I was using a +100 lure and a +10 drink though. So don't worry if you don't yet have max fishing with all the extras, you can still catch Mr. Pinchy!

I managed to catch two of them today, just to realize that they share cooldowns! Nobody had stated that yet. That's 10 days of waiting for cooldowns for me.

Moreover, I have exactly 500 Fishing obtained with:

Base Fishing skill: 375
Big Iron Fishing Pole (+20)
Lucky Fishing Hat (+5)
Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100)

... and the fish never get away from me. 500 is the cap for Highland Mixed Schools. Period.

Now that Captain Rumsey's Lager is available from cooking, you no longer need to worry about missing some of the rare items for the golden number 525. Also, the Sharpened Fish Hook gives an unlimited supply of +100 enchants (instead of stacking up on Aquadynamic Fish Attractors).
Fishing just got a bit easier!

If you are lucky enough to get a second Mr. Pinchy before you use all 3 charges on the first, dont expect to be able to make 2 wishes in one day. They will both share the same cooldown. Was kinda disappointing having to wait another 6 days for the seconed drop charges.

Just tested this today and yes, Furious Mr. Pinchy can be mind controlled. His abilities are Auto Attack and Sunder Armor.

I might add that this provides a fun way to mess around in a major city for a while.

The chances of catching Mr. Pinchy must've been buffed a bit, or I'm just lucky. I caught three Mr. Pinchys in 24 hours, just casually going up and fishing all of the Highland Mixed Pools for Furious Crawdads when I needed a break from dailies.

First Mr. Pinchy: caught at Blackwind Lake
Second Mr. Pinchy: caught at Lake Journe above Stonebreaker Hold, about 15 mins after the first.

First charge: the health buff

Third Mr. Pinchy: caught the next day at Lake Ere'noru, was still on cooldown from the first charge.

Second charge: Magical Crawdad Box, yay!

Still have many days left of waiting to see what the other charges bring; 1 charge left on my first and then the full 3 charges each on my second and third Mr. Pinchys. But now that I have the pet I'm not in as much agony to wait.

My fishing skill was between 370 and 375 by the time I caught my third, with the Horde Hinterlands +25 quest pole and an Aquadynamic Fish Attractor lure. No other enchants or +fishing items.

AS OF TODAY 05/29/08, if your bags are full you lose the charge and get NOTHING. It wasnt changed in the last patch and I am very upset stupidly I didnt check my bags fishing for hours and filling my bags.
Also, I think Blizzard needs to tweek their patches because I have 3 Mr Pinchys, I wait the 2 day cooldown and have gotten the 500 health for 2 hours the last 4 charges. I mean come on. Be creative here Blizzard.

Does the 500 health buff replace any Flasks you currently have? I would want to use it in a raid, but if it wipes my Flask of Pure Death, I'd be annoyed.

From the hole at 58.61, I caught Mr. Pinchy once, and then 2 casts later, I caught him a second time. With such a low drop rate, it was pretty unbelievable but I ws dancing around the apartment.

Of course, ym fiancee was $%^&ed, since I was only fishing for 5 minutes for him, and when he would go to catch him, he would spend hours upon hours fishing. hehe

My first wish was the Stam buff.

hahaha... i guess i should take a trip to vegas with my luck. i dinged seventy yesterday, bought my flying mount, decided to go catch some crawdads to max my cooking...

i caught mr pinchy twice in my first fifteen minutes of level seventy fishing.

the first charge yielded mana and health pots, with five charges left i'm hopefull i will get my crawdad box. =D

i can confirm that as of 6/15/08, you still have to click OK on the BoP dialog when looting mr. pinchy.

unfortunately, i learned this the hard way, and recast before i realized what happened. :(

if you're after this guy, take your time when looting from these schools!

It would not make sense to be able to sell this pet, then it would not be very rare.
But I happen to get 2 of them the same afternoon and both
gave me the pet.
I got the pet with the first wish (first mr pinchy) and then on the second of the second mr pinchy.
Both shared the same cool down.
So, now I have 2. Seems sad, but it might be an idea to be able to give it to an alt on your own account.
I'm not complaining tho!

It took me forever to get my first Mr. Pinchy (sadly I logged about 3500 casts) but when I finally got him, my first wish was my Magical Crawdad pet!! Luck? Maybe, or was it simply the universe righting itself for making me catch over 3000 fish and crawdads and no Mr. Pinchy? I choose the latter.

I would have caught Mr. Pinchy twice now, but both times I re-casted the line right after I clicked the lure, and it canceled the BoP confirmation popup. I have auto-loot enabled, and I have a habit or re-casting after looting. Very frustrating.

I love fishing, and as any good fisherman, i like to cacth the most rare fish i can, so i adventure myself into cacth Mr. Pinchy.

So yesterday i finally caught him, i got my first wish and come out the buff with more 500hp... oh well...

But later into the night, when i do most of my fishing =) i got another one, 2x Mr. pinchy´s in a day.

I couldnt believe it.

I love fishing and as any interested fisherman i want to cacth as many rare fish as i can, so i went for this bad boy Mr. Pinchy.

I got him yesterday and i was a happy fisherman, until i ask my first wish: a 500hp buff for 2 hours.

Later that day I went for a litle more fishing and for my surprise ... BAM... another Mr. Pinchy =)

let me get this straight: I hate fishing.... but as a tank I needed to stamina and 40g a stack was too much... so I moaned and groaned my way throughout the fishing skill grind.. ground myself to 363 ish just so I could make the stamina food..

All this time, before I bought a rod, I vaguely remember my Guild Master on vent going on and on about this long standing campaign of his to fish Mr Pincy and his three wishes.. it went in one ear and ot the other just vaguely rememebered it was a big deal.... I was so lame I had no idea about mixed fishing schools and no idea whether 363 (+120) skill could net me a Furious Crawdad or not, and I accidentally managed to net a crawdad from a highland school and I was like "oooo that's maybe the only place they live"

I moved to a 2nd highland school, got a 2nd crawdad.. (2nd ever mind!) and I was so excited I was finally making my own sta food! anyways 3rd crawdad came and them immediately after.. Mr Pincy! and I was in guild chat saying "wtf is this" and everyone was going mental... cos I moan ALL the time on ghcat about how much I hate fishin! Anyways I right clicked it and a 71 elemental attacked me, I assumed that Mr Pincy had summoned this elemental, but he hadn't it's was just a mob.. but it aggroed onto me the exact second I right clicked Mr.P.. freaky.. so there I am no idea what this Mr. Pincy is for and mad after everyone in guild telling me to click him when all it does is summon elementals to kill me.. then thinking Mr Pincy sucked I then checked my bag... guess what was in there? The pet box! I then read up on it to find it's one of the hardest prestige pets to get!

So .. at 363 skill (+120) on 2nd ever highland School and after 3rd ever Normal Crawdad I then got the pet drop on first go... if you don't beleive me the Mr Pincy gives you a "do you want to equip this item" warning box when you attempt to pick him up

Don't know wether pet drops have been increased prior to the upcoming pre WOTLK patch but I got a baby croc from the fishing q then shortly after I looted 2 Mr Pinchys in 5 mins at skettis. I have previously recieved 2 Mr Pinchys in my life (also missed 2 through spamming right click, a habit I used to have) but never had a Magical crawdad.
However, after transfering my main to the PTR (around the time of a PTR server restart) I found myself in a unique possition, 2 Mr Pinchys on 2 parallel realms, how would the results compare?
At point of transfer I had used 1 charge on one of the Mr Pinchys, so I even knew which loot was which. 11 Pinchy openings lol.

I got a Mr. Pinchy while fishing some buff food for my guild's MT. I was absolutely delighted, until I learned that it has a several day cooldown. But, content to have caught it I went ahead and used my first summon. Yay, mana pots. When the second came up, it was once again potions. I just logged on to get my last one, and out came the magical crawdad box.

Although it was stated that you have to be at 477+ fishing skill, I caught Mr. Pinchy today with a skill level of 461 (341 fishing level + 100 lure + 20 pole), so evidently this is not true.

After several months of fishing for this i finally managed to get it, but then this stupid undead priest ganked me so i couldnt press ok on the confirmation dialog that appears...

I however sent a GM ticket and BOOM, he gave me Mr. Pinchy

First wish was the crappy buff tho :(

EDIT: I actually tried a GM restored the item for me... That wasnt the case.
I managed to fish two of this in a matter of 1h.

Finally caught a Mr. Pinchy after 3 days of hardcore farming: killing Alliance fishermen (who mysteriously tend to have 4 guildmates/friends online even at 4am server time), switching to my druid to Typhoon dismount kill/crater people who won't leave, and 2048 catches in Highland Mixed Schools. First wish was a flask buff. :(

A couple things I noted that I haven't seen mentioned:

As of 3.0.2, the "binds when picked up" loot confirmation dialog box is still present for Mr. Pinchy. Avoid looting your bobber if a mob or player might make you close the loot window before you click the confirmation, unless you want to risk being super sad (didn't happen to me, but I was careful).
Mr. Pinchy replaces the normal fishing drop when caught. The item is not a bonus drop in addition to what you would normally catch.

I flew up to Skettis yesterday, flew down to a pool and another guy hit it about the same time, and on the first catch, bam! Mr. Pinchy. Clicked him and got the Magical Crawdad on the first try, to the ire of both guild members and nearby fishermen alike. Definitely lucked out.

I have spent the past 6 days farming this little guy about 3-6 hours a day. I finally just caught him after well over 1000 crawdad. I didn't let it get me down and it paid off, when i caught him the first wish gave me the crawdad box, I was extremely pleased. The reward for sticking in there and accomplishing something that is easy but aggravating is very great and im very stoked about finally getting this pet. Stick in there and im sure you will have your pet fairly soon. All i used was the +75 fishing baubles with nat pagles extreme angler, rarely had a problem with "fish got away". Good luck!

Since patch 3.0.2 and into 3.0.3, I've caught only one Mr. Pinchy, but all 3 wishes turned out to be the Benevolent Mr. Pinchy. The odds for this were extremely low, and I'm beginning to wonder if something was broken during the patch.

IF YOU TRULY WANT THE MAGICAL CRAWDAD

1. dedicate your life to fishing the lakes of terrokar forest, fish up Mr. Pinchy
2. put your cursor over Mr. Pinchy
3. pray to Mr. Pinchy for the Magical Crawdad pet
4. wait until you are sure Mr. Pinchy has heard your plea
5. click Mr. Pinchy and if you are true of heart in your wish you shall be rewarded

first time fished up, third charge is the charm. worked for me =)

Got Mr. Pinchy today after about 3 months of farming. Not 100% sure but i think that's pretty unlucky lol. I was farming it more for the pet than the achievment, since i collect pets ( i have 56 now). Got the magical crawdad pet on my first wish, jumped around and cheered, then thought 'why not fish up the rest of the pool?'. Well believe it or not i got a second Mr Pinchy 2 casts later! They share the same cooldown so it'll be a little less then 2 weeks before i can use up all the wishes :/

Don't give up pet collectors/fishermen and women out there! You never know, Mr Pichy might be one cast away :D

Am I the first one to notice the numbers are off(by a lot)? Assuming the 20% chance to get the pet is correct then:
Getting 2 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 36% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 3 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 48.8% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 4 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 59.04% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.
Getting 5 Mr. Pinchys gives you a 67.232% chance to get the Crawdad Pet.

Those numbers represent your total chance to get at least one pet. Not the individual chance of every use. That will always remain 20%.

Generally I have terrible luck with this type of stuff, but I got relatively lucky with Mr. Pinchy. Fished for him for about an hour yesterday, and about and hour or hour and a half today - then I got him. First wish gave me the vanity pet too, I was extatic. So I started flying down from skettis, stopped by the lake just south of Allerian since I had a few more minutes left on my lure, and seven fish later (5 crawdads, 1 golden darter, 1 scroll case) I caught him again. So it really is pure luck with this drop.

Now, if only I'd manage to get old ironjaw or the dark herring too... but those are proving considerably more elusive.

i learned it the hard way by using my last charge and gm telling me they can not do anything about it.

Question. A today I caught a Mr. Pinchy and his first charge was Benevolent Mr. Pinchy (combat pet). I just kinda shrugged as he wandered off to go kill a Skettis guy and I flew back to Shatt.

Shortly after I touched down in Shatt there was a brown-text server broadcast of something to the effect of "the beast disappears and the wrath of Neptulon subsides." Trade chat was rather surprised.

Was this when the combat pet despawned? Mind you, I wasn't present at the time.

Might not want to use your Mr. Pinchy in Northrend. Used my second charge of my first Pinchy in Icecrown and got nothing. GM and I had a good laugh, but nothing could be done about it. Fortunatly, my last charge gave me my crawdad, so alls well that ends well.

Well I finally caught him today!

I've been considering fishing the highland schools as a "daily" for me along with the normal daily over by shatrath. I only fish the highland mixed schools once then I move on to Northrend to do my dailies there. I would say I've been fishing the mixed schools for about 3 weeks (not quite ever single day but pretty close.) I would say I average about 6 mixed school holes a day.
My first wish was the fighting guy but that damn ancient came up as soon as he popped and I had my fishing pole on and he ended up getting me before I could get him and the other 3 mobs that popped. OH well. I HOPE HOPE HOPE i get the pet! :)
My fishing is maxed - i have +5 on my pole and I used a bauber to save money (aquadynamics are expensive!)

I have looted 2 of these in the past 8 days. The first time I planned to stick at farming him until I had one, but I caught it pretty quickly. When my first 2 wishes were useless (pots and the buff) I decided to do a single pass of the pools every day, whilst I try and track down the elusive recipes from the cooking daily in Shat, along with the fishing pets. I caught him again today. Here are my total stats (all pools combined) since I started fishing there:

Funny fact, the CD is bound to the character, not the Pinchy itself. If you carry two of them, they share CD, if you just finnished the last wish on one, and got another before the 48h has past, the new Pinchy will still be on CD.

Got my Mr Pinchy, after the 2nd cast into a pool. Couldn't believe it came so soon as this was only the 2nd day I had started to farm him and this was about my 4th pool.

Clicked the OK on the 'bind on pickup' box very carefully (had problems previously with the BOP Ironjaw) and flew off to check what Mr Pinchy's wish would give me. Stunned again when for my 1st wish got me my Magical Crawdad pet. WooHoo.

Achievement obtained and an over the moon Gnome mage :D

It is not officially confirmed by Blizzard Blues yet, but using a charge in Northend have a chance to give you nothing, you will trigger sound and animation only (little sparks around you)

Personally I experienced this in Stormpeaks and talked to others on my realm who experienced this aswell.
But contrary to what others have stated in posts here, Blues are actually able to restore the lost charge for you.

When I came back from work and checked my mail, the lost charge was sent to me.
My advise is to always use charges in Outland - I just took portal from Dalaran to Shattrah.

On a sidenote, I got the pet on the 2nd charge on my 2nd Mr. Pinchy.

after about an hour of fishing (low skill, so i missed a lot) i caught 22 Furious Crawdads, 2 Golden Darters, 2 Scroll Cases, 1 Enormous Barbed Gill Trout, and on my 28th catch it was Mr. Pinchy.

The only way some people may happen to drop him in a matter of seconds is if someone else like you (or me), have to spend endless hours to get him.

Lets say its 1/500, if someone get it in 25 catches, and a second one in his 50th catches, well this guy think the 3.0.8 have something to do with it, but you poor people will have to catch 1500 fishes to get it... and we are back at 500 average.

I call that stressing the droprate. When there is one guy lucky to drop a rare thing, that imply there is a poor bastard standing next to him that stressed the droprate for him so that the damn thing drop...but still need to beat the droprate for himself...that's even more enraging...

There is no increased droprate in 3.0.8, believe me...You and me are here to stress the droprate...

I started farming for Mr. Pinchy about 30 minutes ago. After fishing up the journal that teaches the ability to find fish in the lake above Stonebreaker Hold, I made my way to the node at 58.8, 60.6 and got Mr. Pinchy on about my 3rd cast. I got the pet on my first wish.

My boyfriend farmed him for weeks and never got him. I only started farming him because I'm trying to level fishing and my bf mentioned the possibility of a pet (which is always a good motivator to do just about anything). Took 23 minutes from the moment I cast my first line in the Highland Mixed School to the moment I got the Magical Crawdad pet. Just goes to show how random this game can be sometimes.

Flying over to the daily cooking kaliri stew quest, i noticed a highland mixed school of fish at Jorune lake at about 48,40 and went down to grab it for the Outland Angler achievement.

With 409 fishing, +30 from pole. +100 from Sharpened Fish Hook. (total of 539) i got Mr Pinchy on my first catch, and the pet also from the first charge which i used right away.

I feel kinda guilty about it, hearing ppl keep farming it for weeks or more with no luck...

Been reading these comments a lot recently, looking for a glimmering of hope, lol.

I've been steadily farming for Mr. Pinchy since back in BC when I leveled fishing on my Druid. Here I am now, 450 fishing, +100 lures and the Arcanite fishing pole (+35) with no Magical Crawdad by my side. (QQ)

On my Lock, I received Mr. Pinchy very quickly, and got the pet on the 1st wish which was before the patch.

Now after the patch, with the alleged 'buff' to the droprate, I have never seen him on my Druid, which is my main. I have every other fishing achievement and would love to get this guy, but I keep wondering "How much longer?"

These days, I still do the Fishing Daily, and every time I'm in Outlands for w/e reason, I go and fish up all available nodes in Skettis, Jorune, etc. I'd have to guess I'm easily over 2-3k casts there now. I definitely don't have an exact number.

It's hard to stick with it since Darters and Crawdads aren't worth much anymore, which used to be part of my motivation for going out there.

After fishing out the Lake Jorune and Ere'noru nodes, I headed up to skettis for what was probably in the neighborhood of my 3k to 4k cast in this place. (Been farming since BC). I couldn't believe my eyes, but I finally caught the elusive Mr. Pinchy, and the 1st wish was the Magical Crawdad pet. Needless to say I was ecstatic since I knew my days of Skettis were over. Funny thing is, things in this game tend to drop once you've given up hope and are just going through the motions.

Even funnier than that, I knew that I still needed my rare fish to get the Salty title. Thinking to myself that I'm in for another few months of farming a little here and there each day, I started out to Howling Fjord for some Fangtooth Herring pools since the MP5 food is good. In the strangest stroke of luck, I landed the Dark Herring in my 1st cast. Now this was not the 1st time I have fished these pools, but I found my luck pleasantly surprising that once I needed the rare fish for my title, it took nothing more than a couple gold, a short flight, and one cast to finish up my title hunt.

Hi, I'm not writing this to brag, but to hopefully offer some hope to those out there. I just went up to fish outside of Allerian Stronghold today in Lake Ere'Noru. I had prepared myself for a long grind to get Mr. Pinchy. Ultimately, after fishing the three pools in this area and catching two Goldenscale Vendorfish in approximately 5 casts, I then caught Mr. Pinchy.

The reason I mention this is that it would seem that the % catch rate may have been improved in Outland for a variety of pools. This is just supposition on my part, but I sure hope for all out there that you'll have the same experience. Best of luck to you all!

Okay, after about seven hours of fishing for him. I was beginng to get aggravated, I read that some people had issues with using him in Northrend, and so I assumed my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole was rendered useless. Went and picked up a fishing pole off the vendor, slapped a +75 lure (Putting me to 525 fishing) Caught a pinchy about three or four nodes later.

Was very excited to get Mr. Pinchy the other day... I fished about 13 schools around Skettis, logged off for a while, logged in again and fished 2 schools from the lake between Allerian Stronghold and the Skyguard area--got my first Mr. Pinchy from that lake. Nice spot as well, because there are virtually no mobs around.
Was pleasantly surprised to get my magical crawdad box on my first wish! Still waiting for cooldown to see what happens.
The pet, it is worth noting, is adorable and very cool. I flew down from the lake on my mount with him out and found that he had skittered all the way down to Allerian SH after me.
Besides getting an achievement and working towards your Salty title, your little Magical Crawdad makes a very cool vanity pet. :D

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but the LLN states something more like this...

The greater the sample, the closer the apparent probability gets to the actual probability.

In this case it basically states, that if you get 100 Pinchies = 300 wishes
300/5 = 60

You are very likely to have somewhere in the region of 60 of each event occuring, whereas if we had 10 Pinchies = 30 wishes.
30/5 = 6

This is less likely though as the number of events is a small number and this is the Law of Large Numbers.

I will agree that your chances are greatly increased the more Pinchies you get, but your figures are way off. Even saying if you get 2 Mr Pinchy's and use just 2 wishes of the second Mr Pinchy you have a 20% chance of getting at least one Mr Pinchy is way off. Let alone the 86% you are claiming to.

Watch out, Mr. Pinchy has the same icon as Furious Crawdad. So if you're like me and absent mindedly recast after looking at the icon, shift+click the bobber so you don't recast after catching him...

A trick I found to work is have a full inventory when you fish him up. My bags were full when I fished him up, I cleared space, looted him and made my first wish (no pet). 10 minutes later I got an in-game mail containing the pet!

Liked the idea of having this pet so I began what I thought would be the long, arduous fish for it.

4th pool I fished in, 2nd cast, I got . (!)

Was really stoked so I teleported to SW just incase "Furious Mr Pinchy" spawned as I thought it would be funny :P

But lo and behold I recieved on my FIRST wish, which instantly completed the relevant achievement for me too.

He's a really nice pet and I'm happy I got him so easilly, it's a rare stroke of luck that I don't usually see! :)

I got the initial box after my second cast while doing the daily in Shatt. The first wish I got was the guardian, the second was the pet and the third was the box with the pots in it. My skill was mid 350s.

My personal 5 cents for catching Pinchy and rare catches in general:

Get Bejeweled addon (or maybe even Peggle), and play it while you fish! Just set your Ambience and Music volume down, and Effects volume up and you'll hear when you catch something (if no one else is fishing near you). Makes fishing a lot more painless. :) Listening to music while fishing makes it also more comfortable.

Just remember, all you can do is keep fishing... You will catch it eventually. ;)

Finally caught Mr Pinchy last night. I scoff at the claimed drop rate... or mourn my bad luck. Been trying to catch him (on and off) for 6 months. No idea how many casts in total, but a good deal more than the reported drop rate would suggest. Whilst I would say that I've just been extremely unlucky (friends report catching him on their first visit) I was, however, extremely lucky in that his first wish granted me the pet. Which will add nicely towards the 75 pet achievement. 71 and counting...

OBTW - Contrary to the comments above, it didn't pop up with a BoE dialogue. It went straight into my inventory. No idea which patch changed this, but be warned to keep an eye out for it... to, y'know, save you from continuing your fishing trip.

They must've increased the droprate at some point. That, or having 450 base Fishing skill does affect it. I fished up Mr. Pinchy on my second cast in my second Highland Mixed school, and I received the Magical Crawdad Box on my first wish. I suppose I could just be lucky, too. Hope things go as well when I head to Ironforge to fish Old Ironjaw.

I finally caught Mr. Pinchy, after trying off and on for months. I caught him down in Skettis, and I can confirm that you do not get the BoE message. Also, I wanted to reiterate what Zada said a few posts ago....get the Bejeweled or Peggle add-on! Thank you, Zada, for this great suggestion. It made fishing so much less aggravating. It's also nice when on a long flight. I downloaded it from www.curse.com.

I finally caught Mr. Pinchy (number 2, already went thru 1) today for my shaman after about 20 hours fishing and got the pet on my first wish. Later on I was doing the fishing daily in Outlands on my warlock and figured I bet if I go fish for Pinchy right now I'll get it right away.

I did. I pretty much hate myself now.. One char takes 20+ hours of fishing.. the other takes 15 casts... RNG hates me.

I achieved something in less than 60 seconds that has taken many other people countless hours to get. Truthfully, I wasn't looking for this thing at all. I was farming for Curious Crates to mail one of my guildies for the Weather-beaten Journal. I fished about 15 Mixed Highland pools when to my surprise I got Mr. Pinchy. I kinda chuckled and linked my find to my online guildies. The said gratz and all that, but then I right clicked on the box just for fun and was awarded the Magical Crawdad pet. <shrugs> Still had 2 charges left, but since I got the pet on the first click, I just deleted the thing from my inventory.

More than likely it's complete and utter luck, but I decided I would give Mr Pinchy a shot for the first time ever. I have 450 fishing and didnt use any lures or gear to raise it more as it wasnt necessary. I caught him on my 2nd pool, 2nd cast into that pool. After using my /pray emote I clicked it for my first wish and got my pet. I have 2 days til my 2nd wish but I guess I can just hope for potions now. Total time spent to get pet: 3 minutes.

I realize it won't be the same for everyone (obviously!) but I'm hoping this is a sign that perhaps they increased his catch rate and/or the rate of the pet once he is actually caught. If not then I am extremely lucky and wish everyone else the same luck.

EDIT: After looking at the posts within the last month, it really does seem that perhaps the catch rate and possibly the pet wish rate has been increased. Too many people have had either exactly or close to the same luck as me. Teufelgott had the exact same thing happen as I did... If you haven't gotten him yet, perhaps now is a great time to try.

You aren't mathematically challenged, more logically or linguistically challenged.

If you are logically challenged, and are asking what the chances of you getting the pet on your first use of the Mr. Pinchy: 20%. Duh.

If you are linguistically challenged and showed disclarity in your words and were asking what the chances are of getting it in 5 pools AND then the first charge:

Assuming 0.002%~ Mr. Pinchy fishrate, and 3.5 casts per pool:

3.5 * 5 = 17.5 casts (actual data not available for you)

1 - (0.998^17.5) = 0.034 (rounded)

Comparisons (all rounded)
3.4%~ to catch Mr. Pinchy on your 5th pool (assumging 3.5 casts per pool, 0.002% catch rate per cast)
5% to obtain the Baron's mount on your 5th run (assuming solo, 1% droprate)
0.4% to obtain the Headless Horseman's mount on your 2nd kill of the first run (assuming having to roll against 5 other ppl, 1% droprate)
0.00068% chance to have gotten all three in the amount you did assuming someone doing all of the same under the same circumstance.

The above number is 1 in 172,414; if all of Blizzard's 11.5million subscribers did all the things you did under the same circumstance, there would be 67 people able to brag as you do.

Not TOO much of a statistical anomaly (i.e.: winning the lottery), but, one of the luckiest people in the game.

Though, to be honest, I would define a statistical anomaly being:
- something more improbable than probable
- something where amount of attempts to get something is at the MINIMUM the threshold of gambler's fallacy... i.e. MOST people will get the Crawdad Pet after fishing 286 pools; getting it in the first pool, first cast fulfilling the criteria
- More outside of normal bounds than inside (Normal bounds being if 286 people fished one pool each, and one person getting the pet; outside being if a million people fished one pool each, being the ONLY one to get the pet)

Don't get me started on probablity anomaly if thats what you were asking for... mostly because you probably just read it under the guise of bounds.

Just realized I forgot to factor in the chance to actually get the pet from Mr. Pinchy in multiple areas. Meh; multiply/divide by 5 as needed... changed the bold answer though.

Cleared all the pools and was on my back to shattrah when i saw more pools above stonebreaker hold, on the second catch i claimed pinchy for this first time. Made a wish and voila! PET! Funny enough right after I posted on the Sewer Rat page on catching that, I decided to give Mr. Pinchy a little more time tonight & what do you know several days later after hrs & a few thousand fish I catch him only 15 tries after I caught the Sewer Rat! Granted his first wish was the Benevolent guardian hopefully the next two will prove worthwhile!

Went tonight to check the daily fishing, im missing ''The one that got away'' for Old Man Barlowed, long story short i decided to stop and fish for Mr.Pinchy, i got one from a pool over the alliance base, used the cooldown right away, got the furious mr.pinchy...since it has a 2 days cooldown i decided to go fish the remaining pools in skettis and i got another one

on like 30 casts total, 2 Mr.Pinchy...told myself if i dont get the minipet i would quit the game

Did blizz buffed the drop rate? 2500 casts for the sewer rat would say yes considering my usual bad luck

After 4 days of farming a total of 25-30 hours finally got Mr. Pinchy and received pet on first wish. I almost gave up after tonight and literally got it on the last school I was going to fish...I guess the point is dont give up. Even if the drop rate was 0.00000000000001, there will always be a few people who get it on the first cast. Thats just how odds work. You could get it first cast or it could take months of farming. Its all luck. And with that said....Good Luck!

Not to brag.. first try EVER for Mr. Pinchy... fished 4 or 5 pools and sure enough first wish and Mr. Pinchy was mine. I had 450 fishing skill with a lure (+75)on and my spiffy fishing hat (+30) and my crystal fishing pole (+30). Probaly a little op for Mr. Pinchy but who cares, I got him!

I fished him up on my first proper try also. After reading the comments here i figured that they had increased the drop chance so i went and after 8 or so pools i got Mr. Pinchy. Also got the pet on the first wish.

Id say hes about 1/100 now from the looks of how fast people get him. Personally i dont mind that change since i always thought it was lame we had to go to Outland and fish up 99.9% worthless junk for thousands of casts just to complete a Northrend meta.

I decided to level up my fishing and was a lowly 321 plus +25 pole buff and decided to fish the schools for the hell of it. Low and behold, within half an hour I had Mr Pinchy. First wish was the Magical Crawdad!

My fishing skill was 450 and was using a sharpened hook. I seem to think the copious amounts of Coors I consumed in those 3 days may have had some influence as an attractant.

So, My beautiful wonderful fiance was out in outlands on her Paladin, doing random Paladin things, when she decided to head over and try to fish up a Mr. Pinchy. Lo and behold, she gets one! Knowing how many GOD FORSAKEN HOURS I have spent trying to do the same thing, she logs into my account and heads over, so at least she can say "Hey honey, at least I tried.." But then *poof* she lands ANOTHER ONE for me! Never one to leave a job half done, she decides to fish out the rest of the lure (the +100 glow worm) and... YOU GUESSED IT. Gets another one. So now I have 2. After I get home and give her a hearty kiss, I decide to head on over and try my own luck... and right now you are saying "NO YOU DI'NT!" Well folks, yes I did. I now have 3 Mr. Pinchys chilling out in my bags, and a 2-day cooldown means they will be there for a while. So after thousands of casts, both pre-WOTLK and after, her and I collectively have 4 in one day? Odd.

Two points,

1- Either Blizzard is having pity on me and my fruitless hunt for the Salty title, or they seriously upped the drop rate for Labor Day weekend.

and more importantly,

2- Not only do I have a beautiful girl who plays wow with me, loves beer and whiskey, and wants to marry me, but she fishes up 2 Pinchys for me while I'm at work.
All you guys out there are jealous.

Same thing happened to me about 10 minutes, ago, started up, took about 2 minutes to kill some mobs that were tattacking me, caught a few fish, and about the 4th node, and 15th fish (1 skill up for me) i got the Mr Pinchy, first use was pet.. Gl out there

O_O got my first Mr. Pinchy today from the first Highland mixed school I've fished in. I use it and get mail. I check and it's the pet. woot. ^.^ My fishing skill is 289 (and i use a +20 pole).

I've been fishing with 330+125 for ~30 min and i got mr pinchy from one of the schools. I opened him up and got that crawdad pet and achievement. I dont know how hard this was suppose to be or anything but seemed simple enough to me. Then again i also got that fish in orgrimmar on my 4th cast, now that was nice.

Yes i got this achivement in an hour and im going to go into big detail so most people dont have to read a bunch of this ^&*! like i did. This achivement requires you to go into outland and go to 3 lakes. There in terokkar forest. one next to allerian stronghold, Skettis, Stonebreaker hold. There are only 3 nodes above stonebreaker 10 nodes around the skettis one and 4 nodes at the allerian one, there are 17 total. these nodes are named highland mixed school. once you get Mr. Pinchy you use him and he goes on a 1 day 23 hour cool down. now most of you people dont care about the other &*!@ the wishing will give you its like a 20% chance to get the pet i got it on my first time. now he only has 3 charges so you have about a 60% chance to get it from 1 fish. this really isnt hard anymore just time consumming. like i said took me one hour to do it with no competion tbh the only hard part is actually finding the nodes i would have been there for 10 min if it wasnt that the nodes dont respawn quick enough. you need to ahve around 500 fishing skill so just a rode or a lure should do it. hope this helped you and happy hunting.

Received the pet on my 2nd wish - 1st wish was +1300hp and an increase of size (pretty big increase, like 30%) and you turn red.

It's good to notice that you have 3 wishes total, so when you get the pet at 2nd wish you still have 1 wish left.

After over 3k fishes to get Old Ironjaw, I got this on around 100 casts, and pet on first. Maybe fishing 10 hours straight gives you a higher drop chance. Pinchy still has a 2d cooldown. The pet is BoP.
Pinchy does not require you do press "ok" to loot him.

I got it 5 minutes ago, my fishing skill is 284, boosted with +120. After roughly 10 attempts.

Best thing is I "stole" it from an human lv80 alliance pally with kalu'ak rod and guess way higher fishing skill :D

Last night I was on my way to Shadowmoon Valley to do some Nethewing rep and flew over Skettis. After killing the Elite water elemental in the lake up there, I saw the Highland school of fish and came here to WowHead to see if it was for Mr. Pinchy, and indeed it was.

My fishing is only 271, with a pole that has +20 fishing. I attached a +100 lure onto it and proceeded to fish. On the fourth cast I caught Mr. Pinchy, and the first wish was that actual pet.

Coincidently, I also go the achievement for fishing out of a school of fish for the first time, as my fishing is only at 271 by casting into the fountain in Dalaran while waiting for parties.

So, a couple things learned: Your fishing doesn't have to be very high, and you don't neccessarily have to fish "forever and a day" to find him.

I don't think it's been said but multiple mr. Pinchys are on the same cooldown. So you can't just catch a bunch and hope to get a wish every 8 hrs:)

I finally caught him today.

I had been fishing with fishing lvl 450 for about two days now and came to the conclusion maybe I need higher. So I got a new fishing pole and made some Aquadynamic Fish Attractors which brought me to 575 fishing.. My first cast when I returned I caught him!

and I got his magical box on the first wish! YAY me!

This happened to me today, I was randomly fishing, leveling up cooking, and I run into this druid, who asked if I was trying to get Mr. Pinchy. I said no and well....

Got Pinchy after 600 casts. The three wishes were not the pet so i had to farm another one! I was a bit lucky because I fished up it around the twentieth cast but only the third wish was the pet. 515 fishing skill.

Fished a good 20 schools looking for this, came across a horde warrior fishing and jabbed him with my pole. He puts on his axe and charges me, I kill him with about 3 hits and start to fish the school he was fishing. He rezes and interrupts me so I kill him again. Didn't even barrier and I was still above 90%...poor warriors. Back to his spot and on my first cast I pull up Mr. Pinchy! First wish I get benevolent Mr. Pinchy and than proceed to tease the warrior with him. Funny thing is the warrior kept coming back to jump me...must have killed him 6-7 times.

Fished him up after 15 minutes. I first fished the 2 schools at the lake near Stonebreaker, than the 2 near Allerian, than went to Skettis. On my 8th Skettis fish I got it, and the pet on the first charge :D

not sure if my story is all that amazing given the constant finagling of drop rates and what-not, but i decided casually fish for this item, along with all the other rare things i'm casually persuing... first pool, 5 furious crawdads... second pool however, my first 2 casts yielded 2 of these in a row. just a few minutes ago, i got the mini-pet on my second wish from the first Mr Pinchy.

so now i have 1 Mr Pinchy with a single wish left and another mint Mr Pinchy with three wishes... if i could wish to donate the spare Mr Pinchy to some fishing charity for those less overly fortunate than myself... at least on this occasion.

or maybe it's just karma.... 9k fish caught, most in Northrend, and still no sea turtle mount...

Proof of the power of positive thinking! I kept the phrase "I will get Mr.Pinchy this cast" going for the duration of the cast time and lo-and-behold... No Mr.Pinchy. I figure the RNG has to be in my favor sometime today...please? 694 casts and Pinchy still no love... May want to bring chips and a drink for this one, you're in for the long haul.

I don't think the drop rate has been increased. While I was trying to get Mr. Pinchy, I caught 400 items in "Highland Mixed Schools" (that's about 90 pools) and tracked how much of each I got

280 Furious Crawdad - 70%
66 Golden Darter - 16,5%
20 Inscribed Scrollcase - 5%
11 Curious Crate - 2,75%
10 Mote of Water - 2,5% (6x1 mote, 4x2 motes)
7 Enormous Barbed Gill Trout - 1,75%

I like weird achievements I don't need a raid to complete. I concentrated on the mount and follow pet ones. Got those.

Tried for hours and hours in BC to get this, but fell into other pursuits in WotLK and forgot about it. One of these pursuits was the Sea Turtle, and I was determined not to pollute my fish tracker by fishing in places that couldn't drop a turtle, so I would have an accurate account of my turtle frustration.

The turtle was indeed frustrating. I got it after about 16k fish and other thing caught and moved on to the Insane Achievement. I'm getting close to done with that, and a friend asked me what I would like to go for next . . . checked out some of the available achievements and realized I was only two short for "Salty." What the heck? Port to Shat, fly to Skettis, fished through all the pools, no luck, so I logged out hovering over Lake Ere'noru. The next day I logged back on over a yellow track fish dot, landed, cast once and BAM! There he was. Trembling, I clicked on my Pinchy and heard the achievement ding-swoosh. Woot! Magical Crawdad.

In celebration I put on my full pirate regalia, dropped my brewfest keg, and danced my little heart out with my new pet in Dalaran. All together a pretty good day.

Now to deal with the Fishing Tournaments on my dratted high pop server.

I'd assume since its in a Outland area the min. fishing skill would have to be 300. Having a higher skill would help with the odds but at least 480... really? That would be if you are trying to fish the mount in Northrend.

No clue how I managed to do this... I was level 60, low fishing skill, and no add-ons except for a +25 fishing pole, just flying around looking for schools of fish til I found one, flew down and fished it.. First cast caught Mr Pinchy.. I was like "what the heck is this?" Clicked on it... Got the magical crawdad crate. Since then, I went back to Azshara to increase my fishing and I caught four stacks of darkclaw lobster in an hour.

Mr.Pinchy as well as the pet (before learned) is soulbound. I received my pet from the very first use. Caught him in the second Highland school I fished from. I wasn't farming it I just got lucky I suppose.

Just mentioning the SB cause I wanted to sell it before equipping, which isn't possible.

Been trying to catch this damn thing for over a year now with thousands upon thousands of casts and still no luck, the worst thing is a guildie got it yesterday after trying for 5 minutes :(. 450 fishing skill with +30 from my Bone Fishing Pole and using sharpened fishing hooks from the daily reward bag bringing my fishing skill to 580.
On a lighter note i finally got my chef title after 8 months of needing just the stormchops recipe (finally got it from northrend cooking daily spice bag). Maybe im just really unlucky.

i fished probably once a day for about a week, getting every hole that was up in Terrok Forest. This is A LOT of casts. Got him about 3 days ago and his second gift he gave me the magical crawdad box! To my dissapointment, the first time he gave me the +1000hp. Glad i got it the second

Since the fishing changes (fishing never fails, you catch greys instead, but you never get greys in pools => you can fish any pool with any skill lvl) it is possible to catch him with fishing skill of 1 (one).

After reading these comments and going to the link a few comments below. It took me about 45min or so to fish up Mr. Pinchy. I fished him up in Blackwind Lake, but not before fishing in pools from Lake Jorune and Lake Ere'Noru. Be sure to fish up all fish from each Highland Mixed School pool you fish in.

So, I'm confused. I decided to set out on a grind for this pet, without really knowing how it works.

I got a Mr. Pinchy, and the mob attacked me. So I have an item with a 2 day cooldown. Does this mean that I wont catch anymore Mr Pinchys while I have this item? Do I just have to wait for the next wish? Or can I keep grinding if I'd like to, and maybe catch more, and have more chances at the right wish.

what frustrates me is that i've been farming the tiger from zul'gurub for 2 months on 3 characters every reset and have yet to see that drop, but i get a friggin crawdad within 10 minutes

Spent about one hour farming in Skettis. Finally got fed up with not getting it and logged. Came back about 100 minutes later, casted once and got Mr. Pinchy. Was given the pet on the first use. Pretty damn excited.

After trying to catch Mr. Pinchy for about 30 hours in total, I finally saw a blue item showing up in the loot widow. Since I have autoloot turned on, I was really happy and opening my bags, meanwhile jumping and running around of happiness. But, there was no Mr. Pinchy in my bags!

Turns out I had to confirm that I was looting a 'Bind on Pickup' item while the loot window was still open.. FML

im going to no doubt piss a lot of people on when i say i got my mr pinchy after only about half hour of farming first time ive ever thought to try for him and on my first wish i got my magical crawdad box....now seeing as im 80 and the other wishes r worthless pretty much hes now going to live in my bank vault as a very rare and cherished item :P

had the fishing skill to do it for ages but until now never really been bothered, bored this evening decided to have a crack at finding the lil guy, i went on earlier fished out all schools from all 3 pools got nothing but a lot of angry crawdad and 2 of the big fish u can hold as an offhand item....logged off.

logged back on about 3 hours later still by the pools at thats where i logged out, thought ok ill give it one more go over......FIRST cast i caught my pinchy! first wish i got my pet.....game over :)

I caught 2 Mr. Pinchys in about 1 hour and I already have my new pet :)
Only try to catch furious crawdad in terokkar forest and you will catch it.
I caught it from that mixed school around island Skettis. And for information,
I am level 69 gnome, fishing skill 330 and I dont use any bite ;)

Just got Mr Pinchy after less than 10 pools while leveling cooking & fishing, and got the pet on the first wish. My fishing is only 300 so you certainly don't need all the items! I would certainly be one of the lucky ones though.

Fishing was under 200 (probably around 170), with +20 from pole, +100 lure, +10 rumsy for 290-310 skill and I fished him up in my 5th pool, second cast.

Got the pet first CD as well.

Seems skill is not important any more since you always catch a fish from pools, so theoretically someone with a skill of 1 with no bonuses should be able to catch Mr. Pinchy provided they have access to the area (flying mount, warlock summon, etc.).

I would love to see a lvl 5 (minimum lvl for fishing training) with Mr. Pinchy.

That is if a lvl 5 can get into BC areas.

I finally got Mr. Pinchy 2 days ago from a pool of Highland Mixed. I was hitting the dig sites and thought I'd stop just for the heck of it. I'd been trying for the pet for a year with no success. I was shocked and surprised when I saw it on my fifth cast from the pool. Yes, I did get the pet on my first wish. Don't give up, keep trying. I've been trying for the turtle mount too with no success but I'll keep trying.

I have been farming this for 3 or 4 days now a couple hours each day and i just got Mr. Pinchy. It no longer has a bind on pickup window and automatically loots into your bag. Got the pet on first wish, lucky me. 1 less achievement to do....close to 1050 left...

I have been fishing for this since TBC days. Over 2500 casts in Terokkar for this. And it has never been fished up by me. I can say the fish off hand items, scroll cases motes, of water and curious crates do drop every so often from the highland mixed schools. But no Mr Pinchy yet for me.

I dont know if they changed the drop rates but im not sure this pet is "rare" anymore. I was trying to do the Limonologist and in 3rd catch of my first outland fishing ever i got Mr. Pinchy, first wish gave me the pet. 4th cast gave me the Furious Crawdad i came for, but what a pleasent surprise to add the Magical Crawdad to my pet collection as well.

I saw this achivement and thought i would go for it while i leveled fishing anyways, i got the Mr. Pinchy from the third pool i tryed out in skettis, and Magical Crawdad Box from first wish:D

My fishing is at this time 231 and i didnt use any lures or boosters like that, so its just as posible compared to one who has maxed out fishing.

I got lucky with this one. I started with 176 fishing (+20 from pole +100 from aquadynamic Fish Attractor) ended the 10 minutes of fishing with 181. I fished at 4 highland mixed schools before I got it. When I received it I was happy, I thought maybe I was just lucky. (I was) Then I got even more luckier, as soon as I used it I got the crawdad box. First time using it. Not bragging about how lucky I was, just sayin' you don't need max fishing for it. Just got mine today and I'm glad I went fishing. Also picked up the Strand Crawler from the fishing reward bag 30 minutes before I got this pet LOL.

People saying you need at least some certain amount of skill are wrong. Perhaps it was true at the time of their writing, but it isn't anymore. I just caught it with only 180 in fishing.

As mentioned before, it's all RNG. Getting obsessed with numbers and percentages won't do you any good. If you catch it you're lucky and should be happy! :)

i never ever get stuff that "easily" or luckily i should say, since i was lvl 70 and able to solo strat i have been for rivendares mount.... 85 and nearly 2 years later, still no mount...
2 runeblades tho.

Yay, finally, i was prepared for another boring day of fishing in Terrokar and then Pinchy dropped at the first cast... also got the pet right away.

So now since here are a lot of posts that claim to get the pet with the first wish... maybe not the dropchance itself was raised but the chance to get the pet. :x

Fished for Mr Pinchy for about 30 minutes with 273 fishing, caught him and got my pet the first wish....anyone else have this luck? I was prepared for a week or two of grinding due to what I read.

To go along with the screenshot... if your bags are full when you get the good wish and get the pet, it will be mailed to you, along with a hostile letter from Mr. Pinchy. It reads:

"So, Mr. Pinchy grants you a wish and you throw it away like garbage, eh? Well, you HAVE to take it! But don't think Mr. Pinchy didn't notice. Mr. Pinchy will have his revenge! When you least expect it..."

Best in-game letter I've ever seen, saved a copy for posterity.

About an hour of fishing in Terrokar and I got this. First use, got the pet. I was fishing mainly in the little lake just next to / above the Alliance town.

It's taken me longer in the past to get the daily fishing quest done fishing in the rivers of Terrokar.

I'm never lucky with drops, except when it comes to fishing (or so it seems...).

The last week and a half, I had several drops from the various fishing bags in the game.

From the SW fishing quest I got the Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat, which gives a nice permanent and a temporary buff for fishing. The next day I found the Strand Crawler in the SW reward bag. Really brought a smile to my face!

In the following days I got 2 of the pet crocs (already had one from a loooong time ago) from the Crocolisks in the city quest, several high priced items from the reward bags in Dalaran (one 100g vendor trash bell), and to top it off I just fished up a Mr. Pinchy out of a whirlpool I just fished for fun. And yes, on the first use I got the pet...

Considering fishing is was my least favorite profession, I find it pretty funny. I mined over a hundred elementium veins, but never got the Geode Pet. Did a few heroic dungeons on my own over and over, but never got the pet/mount drop I wanted. Even when I farmed for Volatile Air, I just got one that dropped after the 20th elemental, whilst I was being surrounded by a group of ganking Horde. But when I throw my fishing-pole, it seems my luck turns dramatically...

Nabbed my 2nd Mr. Pinchy in all of 15 minutes, in the Skettis area! I had to brag, since this is the first time in some odd six years of WoW where RNG has shone in my favor. Even the first wish was Mr. Pinchy. My first time around, during TBC, it took me a number of weeks for this achievement alone. Fishing the Dark Herring (for Salty) was even worse.

Just fished Mr. Pinchy up today, after three days of fishing. I fished about 150 items out of the highland mixed school pools before I got him. And my first wish delivered the vanity pet. This was the second time I fished up Mr. Pinchy, the first time was about two years ago, it took me a week and after three wishes and not getting the pet, I didn't try again until now.

I've tried to get this on a couple of occasions, spending about 1 hour each time with no luck. Decided to have a go today, and got him on my second cast into a Higland Mixed School, just above Allerian Stronghold, at Lake Ere'Noru.

On my first charge I didn't get the pet, so here's hoping the next charges will grant it me. I'm hoping I don't have to spend any more time in these pools, so I can work towards getting the turtle mount in Cata pools, whilst working towards the guild acievement for 10k fish. (This will also earn me a little gold, as catching roughly 1k fish in Northrend for the Dark Herring earnt me next to nothing.)

Anyhow I wish anyone aiming for this good luck! Fingers crossed on my next 2 charges :)

Yes, it is obvious you are not a math guy. The probability that any event not happening is 1 - (the chance that it doesn't happen).

This is logical because, Chance it will happen + Chance it wont happen = 1.0 = 100%, which just says given a trial, an outcome must occur (will get pet or wont get pet in this case).

Now, the chance of not getting Mr. Pinchy's Crawdad is .80, since each event is independent as you said, the probability of not getting mr pinchy n times in a row is (.8^n).

So, finally the chance of getting the pet is (1-.8^n) as stated above, where n is the amount of uses of Mr. Pinchy.

The probability of an event happening is equal to 1 - (the event not happening).

In this case, the events are getting the pet or not getting the pet. This is obvious because (probability of not getting the pet) + (probability of getting the pet) = 1.00 = 100%. One of them has to happen.

The probability of not getting the pet is 80% = .8 . The probability of not getting the pet twice in a row(since each trial is independent of one another) is .8^2, similarly the probability of not getting the pet in n attempts is .8^n.

Thus given the original identity, the probability of getting the pet is 1- the probability of not getting it = (1-.8^n)

From my experience those who claim they got Mr. Pinchy in only a few casts were just very lucky. To all the others I can say hold on trying.

I don't know if this used to happen before, but after some time (an hour or two) the schools stopped respawning. I am not sure how exactly that works, my guess is that after you clear out certain number of nodes you have to wait. This was the point when I left and came again later so unfortunately I can't tell how long it took for the schools to start spawning again.

I got my Mr. Pinchy on the fourth day of trying, after roughly six hours of fishing time. First time I used the item right away in Terokkar and the Magical Crawdad Box popped into my bag. Second time it was in Mount Hyjal and the item summoned Benevolent Mr. Pinchy and the third time I got Furious Mr. Pinchy in the Firelands.

For some reason I expected that using the item would always summon Mr. Pinchy NPC that I could talk to and that he would personally grant me the wish, but nothing like that happened, there was never any crawdad I could speak with.
Also I have read a lot of comments stating people got the pet the first time they used Mr. Pinchy. Actually, all my guildies who fished for him in Cataclysm got the pet on the first use (including me), so I'm thinking maybe that is the way it works now?

I was fortunate enough to get Mr. Pinchy today while taking my first 'real' attempt at getting him on one of my alts. I fished approximately 10 pools before I got him in the lake just below Skettis. If anyone is curious, I was level 70 and my fishing was 325 at the time of my catch. It was about 6pm server time. My first charge rewarded me with the Magical Crawdad Box. Good luck, don't give up!

EDIT: I was using Jeweled Fishing Pole also.

I just got my Magical Crawdad pet on about my 30th cast on my first wish! I fished him up with a mere 138 Fishing skill (no lures or any +fishing skill modifiers) so don't believe what everybody tells you about needing a certain skill to fish him up. Yes I know the RNG gods were with me today (for once). I just want to give people some hope and knowledge that you don't have to spend time raising your fishing skill only to spend more time trying to fish him up. Anyways good luck in your endeavors!

I didn't see anything about this: If you catch Mr. Pinchy, but then do not loot Mr Pinchy from the loot box (for example, because you were spamming click on the bobber because a Skettis Surger was behind it, and it closed the loot box), GM's cannot help you. They said they were unable to verify it, so I was down my Mr. Pinchy. So I would recommend fishing with autoloot on, and potentially murdering every skettis surger ever.

This story does have a happy ending though; I fished up another Mr. Pinchy 15 minutes later. I like to think the GM figured out a way to help me anyway :)

Just got mine after fishing at about 5 pools, got it on my first cooldown. As a side note, I got the Giant Sewer Rat 15 minutes prior to getting this one, after fishing up about 700 fish. So for all of you going through a dry patch collecting pets, luck does occasionally strike! Keep collecting!

Okay, i might be a bit of lucker but I really want to share this with you.

It was like 410 casts and this is what I got so far:

301x furious crawdad
2x goldenscale vendorfish
84x golden darter
23x curious crate
1x mr. pinchy

I used it and furious mr. pinchy came out. I was pissed and started to think about what if 3 wishes won't be a pet? Then same day(actually today) I continued fishing, after

32x furious crawdad
2x golden darter
5x curious crate

another mr. pinchy came out !
(so yes you can have multiple pinchies same time. And they share cooldown)

now I have 5 charges and lots of wait time

Do not give up anglers. It is just a matter of time !

YAY, FINALLY! Seems like I've "grinded" for this b4.... as in got frustrated and moved on to something else after like 20 minutes maybe :P but some things you need to know: Mr. Pinchy can Only be fished from Highland Mixed School in Terrokar Forest. The hotspots are Lake Jorune by Stonebreaker and Lake Eri'noru above Allerian Stronghold. I finally sat down at 7:22 Am... lvl 85, 525 fishing skill, +75 bobber attached (not that I really see much dif from when I Don't use it....) and fished Jorune for 35+ mins or more, schools and open water.... finally when no pools would re-spawn I moved to Eri'noru and caught him in my first school! :D not sure how this little bugger works tho.... Any advice on Turtle or Seahorse mounts? :)

Well after reading every ones comments, I was scared to try in fear of fishing for hours... i flew to Lake Jorune first and caught Mr pinchy on my second pool which was the 6th cast.. wtf? and i was able to get the pet first wish! not sure if its been made easier but dang... that was easy! Btw im maxed 525 fishing, using Nats lucky fishing pole. maybe that made me lucky?

The drop rate definitely has not improved, despite the comments of the last few posters on their luck! Its definitely still RNG and completely unpredictable. I also read some comments that said they caught like 2 or 3 Mr. Pinchys but didnt managed to catch any Goldenscale Vendorfish for the Limnologist achieve...I had the complete opposite experience. Caught like 5 or 6 Vendorfish total and not a single Pinchy until today.

I finally got him after over 200 pools and now have a whole ton of crawdads and trout to flood the AH. Took me about two months of slow fishing...but I did just about 20 mins each day so as not to wear out from the grind. Just a normal fishing pole with max skill and no lures.

So yes, he's still out there and its definitely a grind unless you're really lucky!

I wanted to give everyone hope: I casted about 150 times (I know this as I was at 100 fish achievement and then I hit the 250 fish right before I got Mr Pinchy) with the Kalu'ak fishing pole with sharpened fish hook (my fishing skill was around 350 without these add ons). Just keep flying and fishing the pools in the (3) lakes in Terrokar that are marked and it will come. Good way to bump up your fishing skill to as your waiting. I was fortunate enough to get the pet on the first wish so anything after this will be gravy. This is my 2nd toon I have gotten Mr. Pinchy on and I recall the first taking about the same amount of time (maybe a bit more). Good luck and be patient...isn't that what fishing is all about ? :)

FINALLY! after 393 fish caught, I finally got Mr.Pinchy! and on my first charge, I got the Magical Crawdad companion! WOOOOH!

Note: To catch him, you must fish from the Highland mixed pools.
Note: It will take a LONG time

After numerus tries on and off for a year, settled down to do or die. About 2 hours of consistant fishing @ 565 lvl finally landed him. Got the crab pet as the first "wish".

i hate to be a pinchy pooper to anyone that truly wants one of these pets. and i expect that this comment will not be received well, but the drop rate has been improved. i am betting you WILL get your pinchy soon.

as someone who spent most all of BC trying to get pinchy on one toon, and finally did. and someone that only saw a few of these on our realm at all during BC i have fished up my 3rd pinchy in as many days this week, and my 4th in the last month.

last month it felt very lucky for one of my 85's to have found it, when leveling fishing. but thought nothing of it. just luck. just like how most of my 85's have northrend turtles now, when before it was rare.

no big deal, until i brought another alt through skettis and once again got a pinchy on his first pass through the zone fishing. something felt different, but that is RNG. just had to be luck.

until i came through a couple days later with an older 72 priest, fishing up some STA foods for my new DK. guess what. first time through the zone, pinchy drops. that is not where it ends. i am back again today, only 1 day later, and i just caught another pinchy. now, there are 2 sitting in my bags, sharing the same CD timer.

3 pinchys in 3 days, on 2 toons. its RNG of course. but make no mistake about it, the drop rate has been improved. sorry to all that are still frustrated by not finding one yet. but it WILL drop. and i bet my gold, it will be sooner, and not later.

This item takes some time to fish up but there can sometimes be competition, which makes it take longer of course. When you fish this up, right click to use it, the item grants "3 wishes" to you, with a 2 day cool down on each wish. The wishes granted are random, and only one of the wishes gives you the pet. The item will stay in your bags, so be careful not to sell it accidentally while you wait for the 2day CD to reset. One of the wishes is a 2 hour buff that increases your total health, one is a giant crawfish stays with you as a bodyguard, and the other is the pet gets sent to your mail box for you to use. The two hour buff is by far my favorite, as you get larger in size and glow blood red. Mount up with your favorite mounts and see how they look :D

I fished for ages on my old main to get Pinchy and then tried several times on my now main to fish him up but seemed to have a problem each time with pools not respawning once I'd visited all three lakes :s. I thought I'd try today while waiting for my raid to form and got him in 15 casts (so sayeth my awesome rare drop tracking addon, Rarity), ~~but I've not used my first wish yet~~ and got Mr. Pinchy's Gift of 5 Runic Healing Potions, 5 Runic Mana Potions and 4 Potions of Speed -_-. I didn't find the answer here but YES, HE CAN BE CAUGHT WHILE IN A RAID GROUP.

Second time trying for Mr. Pinchy in the last year, Got one in about 3 days of trying for it, and another
a few months after in about the same amount of farm time. I also had a problem with pools not spawning but there not abundant so i just left and came back in hour intervals. This is my second Mr. Pinchy so i'm really hoping he appears this time! I've used the first charge and got the gift.

525 fishing skill, Fishing hat bonus.
As for addons Fishing Buddy works really well for me, I just sit back and right click, makes for really easy farming :)

In addition I never saw any pools near the horde camp, just the two up by Skettis.

i spent nearly 1200 casts into the pools in terrokar over a period of about 3 days and finally got it! keep your chins up and keep casting. of note: i got fishing up to 525 in the process; never used anything but the good ol' regular fishing rod and didn't buff. so it's possibe without spending a lot of money; just time. i got the cheevo the first time i opened mr. pinchy. good luck!

Perhaps drop rate was increased. I decided to go for it and catch Mr.P. after 14 cast. 1st wish was not lucky. I returned to Terrokar next evening end tried to catch it again. I got second one after ~15 casts. So, I got two Mr.P in my inventory. I can confirmed, that this is not unique, you may have several items and they share cooldown. I cannot use second item, it shows the same cooldown time as a first one.

and I got my pet on frist use.

So I farmed around 5mins.

Not rubbing it in people's faces, just stating facts for anyone wondering.

I decided to go up to Skettis to farm for this after spending about 8 hours fruitlessly farming for the Sea Turtle. I hit the Highland Mixed Schools, and had Mr. Pinchy drop on my 12th cast (4th school).

Your character does the cute little cheer animation when Mr. Pinchy grants your wish of a pet :) (First wish, needless to say, I was quite pleased.)

So, don't despair, and perhaps take a break and try for something else you've been wanting, RNG is pretty finicky.

Been farming him for a few days now. When I finally got him I had about 400 Furious Crawdad in my bags. I vendored all the other junk I fished up.
In total I reckon it took me in excess of 600 casts to catch him.

First wish I received only potions :(

I fished this up about four days ago in the Skettis area. I was at 203 casts. First wish was a Furious Mr. Pinchy attacking. I was actually shocked when a lvl 73 lobster came out of nowhere to attack me. On my second wish I received the Magical Crawdad from Mr. Pinchy.

If you are trying for achievement you must receive Magical Crawdad from Mr. Pinchy. A lot of people believe just by fishing up Mr. Pinchy you get the achievement. That is definitely false information.

Got it today after farming for bout an 1hr.Did the Outland fishing daily(did not get the pet in the bag).Then,went to farm for it in Skettis . I read this technique somewhere on here before and wanted to give it credit,but could not find it =( . And got the pet on the 1st wish.

Mr. Pinchy has a chance to grant the Magical Crawdad Box which teaches the Magical Crawdad companion pet.

Mr. Pinchy can be fished out of 17 various Highland Mixed Schools in Terrokar Forrest.

The three lakes with schools in Terrokar are as follows N to S and will require a flying mount:
-Lake Jorune (45,40) 3/17 possible pools (had x1 pool when I fished)
-Lake Ere' Noru (58,59) 4/17 possible pools (had x2 pools when I fished: caught mine here)
-Blackwind Lake (66,73) 10/17 possible pools (had x5 pools when I fished)

When fished, Mr. Pinchy's icon will look exactly like a blue outlined Furious Crawdad. It can be vendored, so pay attention to anything that looks like a crab :)

Mr. Pinchy is:
Soulbound
Requires Lvl 55
Use
3 Charges
(2 day Cooldown)

Each wish/charge grants a "prize" at random. (There is a chance that you will not get the pet and will have to fish up another Mr. Pinchy):
1. Mr. Pinchy's Gift which can include potions and The One Ring
2. Benevolent Mr. Pinchy (humanoid non-elite guardian that will assist in battle at your lvl for a 10 min. duration)
3. Mr. Pinchy's Blessing
4.Furious Mr. Pinchy (Lvl 70 non-elite that will attack you and your party)

Achievements that may be met through fishing this pet are:

For those who think that following someone of the opposite faction around and fishing out of schools they're already fishing at is acceptable behavior, consider this:

When I was fishing for Mr Pinchy at the lake in Skettis, this Alliance player kept fishing from schools I was fishing from, and when I'd go to another spot, he'd show up there and fish from my school again. I'm sure others here will disagree (*awaits the downrates*), but to me, this is rude behavior, regardless of what faction the other person is from. If someone is already fishing from a school, then you go find another one. While I did mutter to myself in exasperation about wishing I could catch Mr Pinchy in front of him, I figured it was wishful thinking, as usually justice doesn't appear that swiftly.

But lo and behold, I did get Mr Pinchy right in front of him, and used the first wish. The angry Mr Pinchy appeared and began attacking me, so my little Alliance friend nerdraged and killed him. (Thanks, bud, saved me from having to re-equip my weapon again.)

Hope he enjoyed seeing me get what we were both fishing for. Karma can be a pain in the rear. :)

The drop rate seems to be have been increased on Mr. Pinchy. I have fished him up on several characters usually having to fish several hundreds of fishes to get him. At the moment I fish crawdads for +30 sta food and during the last 150 or so catches I have found 5 mr pinchys. It might be down to RNG but considering how long I have been fishing these it is a big increase in numbers of Mr. Pinchys caught.

I wanted to farm this pet so i went to terokkar as usual and started fishing the pools. I was insanely lucky and caught Mr. Pinchy on my 7th cast. I used it and got the pet first try. Now for the truly crazy part. I thought i may aswell finish off the pool, and sure enough, first cast i caught yet another mr pinchy! I was shocked. Im not sure if they buffed the drop rate but if they havn't thats a 0.2% chance for the first one with an 8% chance for the pet, which i got first use. Then another 0.2% for the second Mr. Pinchy on the second cast. So thats 2 Mr. Pinchys in a row with the pet on first use. On my way to buy a lottery ticket now!

Alright, everyone who is farming or has farmed Mr. Pinchy is going to hate me for this post:

I caught Mr. Pinchy last night while fishing in a school in the pond at Stonebreaker Hold. I hadn't cast but about 10 times when I caught him, and I wasn't even trying to farm him. My fishing skill was ~280 and I was using Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 with Bright Baubles, so my fishing was only ~375 (lol). I also got the Magical Crawdad Box on my second use of the Mr. Pinchy cooldown.

So, yeah. I guess I got extremely lucky. I feel kind of bad since I know a lot of people have farmed forever for this guy.. XD

I got Mr. Pinchy on 241st cast with 600 fishing skill, plus Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat and Jeweled Fishing Pole equipped. Started fishing in Lake Jorune and Lake Ere'Noru but the pools weren't respawning fast enough, so I flew over to Blackwind Lake and fished there for 2 hours, much better respawn rate on the pools.

Got the Magical Crawdad Box on the first wish - last achievement I needed for the Salty title!

I decided to head out with a guildie and try to farm this little rare. In about 50 or so catches, Mr. Pinchy ended up in my bag! I was so excited! The first wish granted gave me the Magical Crawdad Box :) Now to go level him up. Happy Hunting!

I just spent two days with well over 750 successful casts and no Mr. Pinchy. I got on this morning and fished two of them within ten casts of each other. Probability sure is a funny thing.

I am a very mathematical person, and I didn't want to start fishing for this before I knew mathematically how long this should take me. Keep in mind however that no matter how many times you fish, the chance of catching a Mr. Pinchy is still 0.2%.

The odds of mathematically seeing Mr. Pinchy after x number of casts, assuming of course that the catch rate for Mr. Pinchy is 1 in 500, 0.2% or 0.002...

At 50 casts it has a 9.5% of being fished up.
At 100 casts it has a 18.1% of being fished up.
At 200 casts it has a 33% of being fished up.
At 500 casts it has a 63.2% of being fished up.
At 1000 casts it has a 86.5% of being fished up.
At 1500 casts it has a 94.7% of being fished up.
At 2000 casts it has a 97.2% of being fished up.

There will never be a 100% chance of fishing him up, but logically you should have caught a Mr. Pinchy before your 500th cast. Now you just need to get the pet. :)

So there I was in the highlands of Terokkar Forest, fishing for THE magical lobster that would grand me three wishes! For days catching common lobsters and strange oversized fish, all of the sudden I felt it in my fishing rod. This is it THE lobster of my dreams... here to give me ANYTHING I desire!. I talk to the lobster and ask him, they say you can grand me anything I desire from this world, is this true? The lobster answers with, nah not realy I can give you five choices.

One; I can give you a beautiful box of wonderfull crap that has no use in this world
Two; I can increase you chances of living by granting you 1300 health, but...it will only last for about 2 hours
Three:I will send one of my personal guardian to help you in battle, he will die for you in honor on the field... most likely in the first few seconds...
Four:I can give you a conpanion that will stay with you as long as you live and be there for you in times of sorrow and times of joy.
And last but not least...
Five: I will slay you right where you stand by sending one of my minions to beat you into the ground!

Thought i'd add an update for 5.4
Since the change where any school of fish can be fished from at any level you can fish from these schools successfully at any time, you just have a better chance to land something other than junk the higher your skill level. But on the plus side, if you need to level you fishing, it's probably time well spent, 2 birds 1 stone.

I fished today with 381 fishing plus Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole and was landing something every cast.

The school spawns seem to have changed from what I read of previous comments. The schools re spawn every few minutes for me. If I go to Skettis Lake and circle the lake and then the inside island from school to school by the time I start back at the beginning again the 1st one has re spawned giving me endless schools to fish from.

Still no drop though :(

After roughly two hours of fishing from Highland Mixed School pools throughout Terokkar Forest (especially in the SE corner) I had Goldenscale Vendorfish and Mr. Pinchy both pop about 30 minutes apart from the same pool located near: 58.75 / 60.15.

Got mine yesterday (12/12/13) pretty quickly. Don't know if this is a testament to the %'age being upped or not. All I know is last year I spent several days fishing for this with nada and yesterday I fished maybe 9 pools and up he came. Had Mastercraft Pole & Nat's Hat for a 600+188 skill.

I'm also curious as to whether the drop rate has been increased. I looted this after 107 casts (according to Rarity) in the Highland Mixed Pools around Skettis on 12/26/13. I'm maxed fishing and had no pole or lure. I continued fishing for the goldenscale vendorfish and ended up getting a SECOND Mr. Pinchy in just a few more casts. So either my luck is insanely high or Blizz has made this easier to obtain.

I think the drop-rate on this has been increased significantly recently. Given others (Who Looked like they might just be trolling) have reported this, and then my own experience matching the recent reports!

The reason is most likely due to the recent Blizzard attention to Mr. Pinchy (Exactly 1 month ago to the day of this post)

At a rough guess, given the data I've gotten from the Rarity Addon (Well worth a look if you've not heard of it)
I would say the drop rate is at least 10% now if not 15%.

To Down-voters, this is factual and accurate information, the evidence of the increase in drop-rate speaks for its self in the comments here.
Unless you are downvoting because you are unaware of the Bind on Pickup Prompt Issues with fishing while having AutoLoot enabled, thus meaning you will never ever ever catch this item or Giant Sewer Rat.
How about, before down-voting, go spend 20 minutes to fish up you're very own Mr. Pinchy to see the drop rate has been increased significantly!

Hi! I would like to know if there's some previous requirement or special equipment needed in order to fish this item.

I've been trying in the pools of Blackwind Lake for the last 2 hours. I've had time to raise my fishing from 510 to 600 and have fished 150 Furious Crawdads and dozens of other stuff, but no sign of Mr Pinchy yet.

Since patch 5.4 in MoP, the drop rate of Mr. pinchy seems to be the same. I got mine after about 4 hours of fishing. However, I can tell that the highland mixed pool respawn rate has been increased. As I flew around Blackwind Lake, fishing the pools that I found, by the time that I did a circle the pool was back again. I never ran out of pools. I'm guessing the pools now have a respawn rate of about 5 minutes.

If you're wondering how badly you want Magical Crawdad... it's one of the best battle pets in the game. Against some compositions, he is literally unkillable, meaning you can swap in one or more low level pets to powerlevel. He's amazing.

So, I spent about 4 hours fishing for this. I went from 315 to 487 fishing. I was filled with disappointment and rage. After lamenting to a Guildmate that I would never get it, I received it on the next cast. Elation, joy, relief; all things that I felt. I used my first wish and got a gift, oh well, I'll try again. I visit my bank and begin unloading various items, sort my bags and notice I have 2... I had apparently gotten it at some point prior without noticing. At least that means I still have 5 wishes....

200 casts thus far on my 600 fisherman with the kaluak fishing pole and the weather beaten fishing hat. Not to mention the casts I've done before I installed fishing buddy... but my results after 200

Chances are if you've fished him up before you're chances are slightly higher of catching him again.

Here's the process to get the pet Magical Crawdad:

Go to Shattrath, then head southeast to one of the lakes in Terokkar Forest to fish for Mr. Pinchy*.
Fish up Mr. Pinchy from a POOL of Highland Mixed School. You can't catch him in open waters. This could take a while. It took me about an hour of flying from node to node. (For reference, I have 600 fishing but didn't use anything to increase my skill above that. Others have reported, "Got him first time I threw the line, dude!" but don't count on it.)
Right-click Mr. Pinchy to "make a wish." You can try this every 4 hours, and you have 3 tries total per Mr. Pinchy.
When he grants you Magical Crawdad Box, right-click it to learn the pet Magical Crawdad. There are at least 5 items you can be granted, and if you really want the pet, none of the other items will be cool at all, bro. I happened to get this on the first wish.

* The map on the page for Magical Crawdad, which shows only one node where this item can be found, is misleading, since you can't directly fish for the item itself. Instead, you fish for Mr. Pinchy. His page will show you the possible places you can fish for him (3 lakes in Terokkar Forest), rather than just the one exact coordinate shown on the page for Magical Crawdad.

I flew over Skettis on my way to Nagrand and decided to quickly farm for Mr. Pinchy. It must be my lucky week because I managed to get him after my 5th cast and on my first wish the pet dropped!

Currently fished up 350 furious crawdads and still no drop, i dont even want to know how many casts its gotta be over 1000 easy. 3 days multiple hours of play per day. It's not as impossible as you may think. You need a bit of time and patience. I fished up:
47 furious crawdads
17 golden darters
3 motes of water
A couple of scrolls
A handful of crates with ore and leather
A fair amount of junk

And then Mr Pinchy popped out of the water and brought that Crawdad with him.

Omg! I was so sure the drop rate had been tweaked since Pandaria. I got like 3 of these in under 10 catches! I still have a screenshot of them in my bags... (finally! I can be that dude that seems to post total bull!@#$ of the kind "it took me 2 tries"). I still don't have old iron jaw after over 1200 catches though...

Not sure if this is a bug, but after about 80ish casts I caught a mr. pinchy, battleground popped. Then next cast, caught another.

Did some fishing for Mr. Pinchy today at Blackwind Lake in Skettis, located in Terrokar Forest. 452 fishing casts garnered these results.

Netherweave Boxes (Containing approx 5 cloth each): 8

Scrolls (Assorted): 20

And finally:

I was surprised to find a lack of documentation of how this item works. Well, here goes:

You want this item and it's three "Use" charges to attempt to obtain a Magical Crawdad Box, which teaches you the Magical Crawdad battle pet. (During BC, when this was current content, you retained the item which spawned the vanity pet for that one character, so it is a plus that now you only need to farm it once to have it.)

When you USE Mr. Pinchy, one of five things can happen (according to other comments on various related items; my memory says "it's around five", but I can find specific reference to only four.)

1. The one you want, the Magical Crawdad Box is created in your inventory, or mailed to you if you were absent-minded and did not leave an empty bag slot when you used Mr. Pinchy.

2. Benevolent Mr. Pinchy, a temporary summoned guardian companion that will fight for you; kind of like the Winter Veil Yeti gift, but already summoned, and no charges. Think old school hunter pet set on "Aggressive". Oh, the fun you can have with that. His level and health scale with your level, but even at level 100 he has only 20Kish health. About as useful as Zoidberg.

3. Furious Mr. Pinchy, a hostile level 70 mob that spawns next to you. Does NOT scale with your level and drops no loot. One person commented that it can be Mind Controlled, for your amusement. Spawning it in the Dalaran fishing pool, then sheeping it, then leaving could be fun.

4. Mr. Pinchy's Gift, a gift box nominally containing some level 70 healing and mana potions, and a 2% chance to contain The 1 Ring. Comments report that it is broken, contains nothing, has been reported, and Blizzard has no intention of fixing it. No one seems to care much either way.

5. The one I cannot find documentation on; I believe it is a buff. I recently used a Mr. Pinchy and got a message "A more powerful buff is in effect." Nothing else happened. So, a buff appropriate to a level 70 toon.

So, you have five possible outcomes, one of which is the one you want, and three tries per Mr. Pinchy. Again, there is a lack of documentation on the likelihood of each, but certainly the desired result is no better than 20%, but once Mr. Pinchy is obtained, the pet is by no means truly a rare outcome. So estimating it to be in the 5% to 10% region, we'll call it roughly 7% or 8%, or in other words, expect to need to fish up three or four Mr. Pinchys to get one Magical Crawdad pet. Per how drop mechanics work, a great many of you will get it sooner, and some few of you will fish up many Mr. Pinchys before you get the pet.

Extra Magical Crawdads can be caged and sold. It is a difficult enough pet to obtain that the value remains high. You can get extremely lucky and get more than one from a given Mr. Pinchy.

There is not a whole lot of point to saving your Mr. Pinchy uses for later. Basically use each attempt as it becomes available. IIRC, the cool down used to be much longer, and you used to have to carry Mr. Pinchy for days.

If anyone remembers any relevant details, such as the name of the buff, please leave a response.

I hit the lake by the Alliance town, solely going after the Furious Crawdads for leveling Cooking. Went in with base fishing of 304. Used my pole and lure to give me +70, so 374 effective fishing skill. No one was here, so I had the complete run of each pool that spawned.

Hit Pinchy on the 8th pool, only fishing in those. It's all RNG, so what takes one player 250 casts only took me approximately 23 (did not count casts, but the number of pools). Was surprised as hell when I got it. Me and RNG tend to not be on very good speaking terms.

Was the drop rate increased? Had to fish 17 hours straight to get my first one, got bored and went for another since I sold the pet, after 5minutes of fishing I got one, then another directly after.

I catched Mr. Pinchy today for the first time (fishing skill 488 and no rod or bate or special fishing gear like hat etc).

First time I summoned him he was hostile (yellow) and I killed Mr. Pinchy. I was afraid I made a mistake by using the wrong mouse button to 'talk' to him and instead attacked him. OMG I killed Mr. Pinchy! Four hours later I summoned him in Draenor, he was just walking around with me, I could not talk to him, so none of the wishes granted. See, he's still mad at me and did not wanted to 'talk' to me. Another 4 hours later it looked like Mr. Pinchy had brewed an evil plan while sitting in my bag, to revenge my attack when we first met. When I summoned him, he detonated something that looked like a nucleair bomb. But it delivered the Magical Crawdad battle pet in my bag!

Long story short: you don't need to 'talk' to him, just summon him. He does not have a text balloon such like other npc's sometimes have so you can talk to them. Mr. Pinchy is a sea creature, he doesn't talk, he fights or drops things just after you've summoned him. You can summon him three times with a cooldown of 4 hours in between.

I read in the comments that you had to have fishing skill level 470 and I cathed him at skill level 488.

Just if you're unlucky like I am, I got Mr. Pinchy the first time after 500 throws or so. Used the 3 charges - no achievement. I went fishing again, took a little under 4h, it was easy to know cause the item still remembers when you used it and has a cooldown...

So, even if you use the last charge, cooldown still exists if you get a new one. Thankfully it's just 4h nowadays.

So I have been farming this little sh*t since I started playing in Wotlk. I would go there everyday for an hour for about 3 months. I just needed this little for my title. However, I never got it, so I eventually stopped trying it in cataclysm.

Today I went and tried it again, and got Mr. Pinchy in the first pool! Even better: I got the pet on the first wish.

You can fish around blackwind lake and there will always be enough Highland nodes!

Ok so I read all the comments prior to this one:

I fished in Blackwind Lake, in Terokkar Forest. Basically just go around the lake and fishing holes will appear the more you fish it took me about an hour maybe two. No extra stuff for better fishing up stuff. And got the pet on the first wish. So Good Luck and have fun.

Got Mr Pinchy after fishing in exactly 70 pools of Highland Mixed School or 176 Furious Crawdads later.
So the person who mentioned that he got it after 172 Furious Crawdads was right on the spot.

Every 250 casts - a Mr Pinchy drops. Good luck and gather all the patience you've got, this might take awhile.

PS. Also as for many others, I got Magical Crawdad Box on my first charge.

I decided to fish for Mr.Pinchy, After about 10 minutes I caught him, He screwed me on all 3 wishes. Upon logging in the next day I fished for another 10 minutes upon which he deemed me worthy and gave me my achievment. I don't see how this could be rare. My fishing is now 142.

After fishing for an hour in a big circle around Skettis (located right on the map with the same name), this is the rough statistic I have gotten for my first Mr. Pinchy's catch:

Wow, I'm normally not that lucky when I'm farming rare pets (...Azure Whelpling...still don't have this little **** >_<) but this time I really was.

I was doing the fishing daily near Shattrath and got the ability to find fishes so I decided to try it out at the lakes in the south of Terokkar.
After a short time I found a Highland Mixed School and began fishing.
First two casts just Furious Crawdads and on the third cast, while I was looking up if my fishing skill (380 at the time) was even high enough to fish Dr. Zwicky, BOOOM there he was.
Made my wish and BOOOM got Mr. Pinchy's Magical Crawdad Box! :D

I'm so confused, I've caught 13 mr pinchys so far, used 12 of them and 1 charge of the 13'th one and I still haven't gotten the Magical Crawdad from it. Just be aware that it might be harder to get one than it seems I guess.

Somehow I got this after only 30 minutes of fishing, and I got really excited really fast. On the very first wish, [dropped. I feel like the luckiest man alive. I only circled the lake twice!

I was about to give up when I reached 100 Crawdads, but went to cook food and got back with renewed eyesight - I'm glad I did.

I've been fishing for this since lvl 70 when TBC was current, so it's been work in progress. The above fish caught is just from tonight.

So if you're losing focus, go do something else for 15-30 minutes and then come and back to continue.

After spending about 5 hours completing The Coin Master I decided to try my luck at Pinchy. 4 hour later Pinchy drops, I accidentally fish over him because It's 4 in the morning and I'm tired. Cry myself to sleep c:

Edit: Aaand less than 10 minutes after making this post Pinchy drops and I get the pet first shot. Complain and you shall receive.

Some info from the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch:

I started again farming Mr.Pinchy, after years of struggling, without a fishing pole and with maxed out Outland Fishing.

I'm farming the pools in Skettis and they seriously seem to be never ending.

This time around I've got:

-Furious Crawdad x26
-Golden Darter x7
-Inscribed Scrollcase x3
-Mote of Water x2
-Curious Crate x1
-Barbed Gill Trout x1
-Enormous Barbed Gill Trout x1
-Spotted Feltail x1

-Mr Pinchy x2

It's worth noting that the cooldown is now 4h instead of the 2 days.

I've used it once so long and I've got:

1)Mr. Pinchy's Blessing: Health increased by 1200. This effect persists through death and is considered a flask. 2 hour duration.

His droprate might have been increased, I didn't drop him once for years and now I've got 2 in few casts.
