so you are saying that you shouldn' t tank nax 10 until you have outgeared it?
(epic achievement requires 213 items in all slots... nax 10 drops ilvl 200)
hmmm..
You should be ABLE to tank Naxx10 before you tank Naxx10.
This is to say, you should understand aggro mechanics. You should have at least read about what a boss does -- are there adds, do they drop aggro, do you need to dance?
I find it hard to believe that someone who doesn't know why they aren't at 35k HP unbuffed will understand how to tank any Naxx boss.
I've been through a Ulduar10 run where the MT was in mixed green's and blue's, and we didn't have a wipe related to him. So I agree that you don't need full epics to move into raids, but you DO need a brain. Coming unequipped can lead to many wipes.
Yes, and he stated that he does heroics.
How else or when do you suppose he starts in raids?
Perhaps do 1 run as OT.
Thats all I can think of...
P.S.
I still am unable to do the epic achievement... boy i wish a trink would drop......

Running as an OT is probably the best bet. It's a good way to get experience in the fights.
Otherwise, most people "know" when they're ready. I "knew" when I was ready to heal for Naxx10 on my Priest. Heroics got to be pretty easy (and this was quite a few months ago, before EZmode purpz) and I was ready for the challenge.
For a tank, part of it is gear based. The 540 cap, high amount of HP... you can glance at your numbers and know if you're geared. The rest is mental. Know the fights, and have
confidence
. No one wants to follow a tank who asks, "What's this boss do?"

Ok, to clarify, to the people who slammed my post:
Given the dearth of epics that come from running heroics nowadays, there's no excuse for anyone to step foot into Naxx 10 even with anything less than the Epic achievement.
I never said it can't be done. I just said that there's no excuse, when you can get Ulduar quality items from farming Heroics, or ToC level items from farming the daily Heroic, or at least be sitting in ilvl200 epics from N ToC.
My point is, if people are complaining whinging that they're not being taken into Naxx, because pugs just want to blitz through it for farming, then you've got plenty of ways to gear up to meet their criteria. Which is why I clearly said:
To expect a pug to take you on for progression (which is essentially what you're saying, if you're moving from heroics to raids) is absurd, unless they're all in it for the progression too.
If they're farming, why should they take your undergeared ass along? Why should they take the attitude of "hey, we can carry this guy, that's alright" with you, but not every other player on the server?
A tank with 32k buffed HP can tank it with no problems, and 2.5k dps is heavy hitting. It doesn't matter if everybody else is just in it for kicks and puts out 4k, you're not being carried if you can put out that much.
At the moment, I'm sitting in a few def rating blues and mostly ilvl200 epics and on about 24k HP with about 35% avoidance unbuffed. If I'm tanking, I'll do about 1.5k single target DPS. That effectively limits the rest of the raid to 3-4k DPS, otherwise they'll take aggro.
If they're farming, they'll want to get in and get out as quickly as possible. That means not limiting their DPS for the sake of
carrying
a tank along. They
want
an overgeared main tank. It's a lot easier to carry DPS than it is to carry a tank.
I agree it's completely doable - by definition, it has to be! But don't expect to be invited to every raid being called. If you want to be invited to farming pugs (which they mostly are nowadays), then get geared up. Not many people run Naxx for progression nowadays.

Enchant your gear, get def capped for raids. I seriously doubt you wont be able to find a pug looking for a tank for a naxx-10 group. The thing about pugs is they almost always wipe ALOT. People dont know what they are doing, even though they will rarely admit it, and the dps is going to be weak at best. Thats the beauty of a pug, its okay if you suck cause everyone else probably does too. Good luck getting into a pug and hope that all goes well. Just be prepared to have some pretty high repair bills :)

Being in blue gear doesn't make you 'carried.' Being in blue/purple gear means you are at the level of gear Naxx 10 was designed for.
*cough* Read the rest of the thread. I keep trying to make it clear - if you're planning on joining a ToC/Ulduar geared farming pug, then you're being carried in blues.
