Why is Pitbull using 4.49 mb?

So I spent lots of time trying to keep the Vanilla WoW look while having all the options I wanted and then realized that, although it looked cool, I was using 7 or 8 addons to handle what one solid Unit addon could do. So I tried Xperl and it's boring and EVERYONE says how great and more light weight PitBull is. The options for customization are great but the thing is sucking 4.5 or so MB of ram to freaking use. Something has to be wrong. I really want to use it, but I'm sticking with Stuf for now.
Help?

How much RAM do you have?

Isn't Ram like $10 per gig now?

Most UnitFrame replacements are fairly heavy on overhead simply because of what they provide in terms of customization. I think you'll find that most UF replacements take up similar amounts of memory.
True...remember, if it's basically replacing every bit of functionality of the standard WOW interface, you're talking about thousands and thousands of lines of code.
Or would you rather run into functionality it doesn't implement in a critical situation?

In every way shape in form (for me personally) XPerl has proven to use less memory than any other Unit Frame Addon I've tried (Pitbull, oUF, AGuf, Grid, Healbot etc.).Less than oUF? LOL.

4.5 MB of RAM. Let's see. Let's, for example, say you have a weak computer, only 1GB of RAM.
4.5 / 1024 * 100 = 0.439%. Less than half percent. Now take into account that the majority of machines will have at least double the RAM available. RAM is a resource to be used, not something you just have there to look pretty!
But, if you want to cut down on the memory, disable the modules you don't use. XP bar? Gone. Castbar? Thanks, I'm using Quartz, gtfo. It is very modular, and you can disable whole chunks of it, either through the default add-on management screen (at character selection) or in Pitbull configuration tab 'Modules'

The point to my question being: it doesn't matter how much memory an addon takes up as long as it's not pegging your CPU. If auctioneer wants to take up 15-20 megs with its auction database, I care not a whit.

yea i like pitbul, you can make it look sweet, but I dont like mem hog addons, even though my PC can more than handle it.
back to xperl, keep it simple, and Prio on making the game smooth, not look sweet and suffer lag spikes.

No, it really doesn't have a smaller memory print than oUF.

Wow. Glad to see my little post caused such a stir.
I am using an older G4 powerbook. It's (sadly) maxed out at 2gb ram and combined with the slow processor I tend to watch usage closely. My highest level character (out of 9 including banker) is only a 50...I like to bounce around. I'll have a new Mac by the time I'm ready to raid which means by then these worries won't matter.
Anywho.. I've discovered Stuf and it has all the customizing I need with a very tiny imprint; something like just under 400k.
So, to reiterate the question..er concern: Everyone seems to push the low imprint of Pitbull compared to Xperl which apparently is wrong?

People say a lot of stuff related to addons that doesn't mean anything. Remember when everyone was crazed to use "only Ace addons"? Well, an addon using the Ace framework meant jack squat about its efficiency, memory footprint or anything else. It's just as possible to write a bad addon using Ace as it is to write a good one without it.
I would get what you think works well and stop looking at how much memory stuff is using up. A good test to see if your UI is interfering with your framerate is to hit Alt+Z and see how much of an improvement you get. Granted this will just turn off the graphical portion -- they will still respond to events and do processing, but it can be a good test.
If you're really worried about something causing problems, go pick up a profiling addon and watch CPU usage and memory behavior across all of your addons and selectively prune them that way.

That's some solid advice there my friend. I'm streamlining everything now. Keeping it simple with just the info I want...and Sexy Map cause it's awesome when you combine TexBrowser and 10 years of art school. One big hog on the usage is freaking Quest Helper. I quest with my brother a lot so it's really helpful to be able to see each other's quests, but at this point I think it's almost a crutch.

I'm not sure how you have Pitbull configured, but during normal usage it sits between 1.1mb and 1.6mb.
But I also have nearly every module I'm not using disabled, but I use Grid for raid frames (1.1mb).
Then again I have a different addon for almost everything I turned off in Pitbull (Grid, Quartz, SBF).
My opinion about Xperl is that it's just not very attractive, and I can make Pitbull do exactly what I want, make it look better, and make it use less memory.

As it turns out, dear posters, I am very very happy with Stuf. Although I'm sure it's missing some of the bells and whistles that PitBull has I was able to achieve the clean look I wanted with all the info I needed without sacrificing much memory. Maybe I'll give a little screeny when I get home to show her off, eh?
