I take offense that you term saying the truth a rant :P
Sucks doesn't it?
lusting after his brother wife
Doesn't WoA say that Illidan liked Tyrande before Malfurion? Or atleast before any confessions of emotions.
But his abs guys.
WHY DID WE HAVE TO MURDER THAT BEAUTIFUL CHEST.
I was going to mention his pecs, but close enough.
I was going to menion his ten thousands year old pants that he never changed not once. No wonder he was alone eh?
Besides with comparison with Malfurion beardcafe mc %^&* anyone looks good in any way thinkable.

Doesn't WoA say that Illidan liked Tyrande before Malfurion? Or atleast before any confessions of emotions. It said they were childhood friends, and Illidan assumed that he would end up with Tyrande...who had already reached an unspoken agreement with Malfurion a short time before the book began. But that's Illidan for you; assuming everything and always ended up as a pompous egotistical ass.

I din't realy see a ship going in the start, more friends than relationship. Tyrande was in sort of doubt once in the book IIRC on who she wanted, other priesteses though It obvoulsy would be Illidan, sexy abbs, nice eyes, cool magic etc.
When Tyrande hinted to Malfurion, Illidan wanted to %^&* the planet and joined the legion.
But that is just how I read it.

I must say, I find it refreshing to see him so deeply criticized. I always felt Illidan's story was written (and empathized with) by all these guys who "were in love with some woman who was so delicate and beautiful, but of course she chose this other jerk
for absolutely no logical reason
even though he was
no better than I was
, and then I tried so hard at life, but everyone
hated
me because they're jerks, but they didn't understand that this whole time I was only trying to do what was best, but no one knew that but me, and finally they all drove me away and the bad things I did I only did because I was
forced
to, but I couldn't tell anyone, and now I just want everyone to leave me alone, and even though I rescued this beautiful woman I love she still chose that other jerk instead of me because he's just
so perfect
, and now I just isolate myself because
no one understands meeeee...
"
(Seriously, if that story was written by a woman, it would go like this: these two twin guys liked this girl, so she chose both of them, because hey,
twins
).
Honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised some of you don't fanboy over him.
You're INSANE if you think a woman would write "hey,
twins
" over it. My money would go straight up betting to picture Maiev as someone who has the SAME problem
with
Illidan than Illidan have with Tyrande. You don't hunt someone to the end of the world and back after taking care of him for 10k years if you don't love him deeply. Its just
"that bastard"
never saw how much she loved him...
Now THAT'S a best-selling story written by a woman. (no sexism intended)

Eh from how it was read, it seemed that Tyrande had made her choice and just wasn't sure how to break it to Illidan; though, it was a surprise to Mal too so there is that.
