All im getting at sky is there are moments where even a 30k mana pool will be stretched beyond its ability to handle and in those moments thats exaclty where the cumulative 250-350 mp5 that youve avoided putting on your gear will outweigh the benefit of that extra 3% crit, and maybe 3% haste.
If your BiS rolling into ulduar, neither your haste nor crit are so low that they need to be further stacked and you can afford to diversify your aresenal with a bit of mp5.
MP5 SUCKS. Just to put it that way. As we paladins are allways casting yand if you say 350mp5, it will be around 170 while casting. This is a complete & utter waste of way more then 3% crit & haste. To have 350MP5 while casting, it's around 600mp5 while not casting. If you want to have 600 mp5 you really need to change gems even. Mp5 isn't for paladins. It's for shamans, spirit is for druids. Holy priest also uses spirit and us holy paladins just use Intellect as our form of regen. I Have 29k mana unbuffed, 34.7k in raids. I have 217/144 MP5 and I can basicly spam holy light, without even having to worry about mana. If you have a druid in your raid, and a replenishment class. It's practically impossible to go OOM on a boss fight if you rotate your DP with less raid dmg.

If you take a player with 20% crit and add 1% crit rating they will have an extra chance to crit on 80% of their casts and we can presume the base 20% will crit. When you get to 50% crit rating and add that same 1% your only increasing your chance to crit on the remaining 50% of said casts, thus meaning it will end up yielding less benefit than it does at 20%.
Just have to add that this is partially true.
From a holy paladin point of view crit is more and more effective the more you get.
Going from 48% to 49% crit gives you two times as much effective mana as going from 0% to 1% crit.
Source
(look under critical strike rating)
Though as said before Mp5 is far from useless.
Unfortunately it costs a moronic amount of item points (2.5 per 1Mp5?)

Uh....
Just FYI, they nerfed our holy damage while buffing our CS and DS. What does this mean? While armor pen isn't as amazing as with other classes, it's not a bad stat.
Don't QQ because ret raid dps is broken and your gear has ArP on it because
you
think the gear is poorly itemized.

I find it difficult to take anyone who calls the ArP gear in Ulduar "your gear" in reference to a ret pally. There are plenty of non-ArP oriented items in Ulduar. Lets stop acting as though there are not. There is however a difference between the gear not existing and your guild not being able to give you access to it.
All I'm saying is don't bite the hand that feeds you. While Armor pen isn't a really good ret stat, it still buffs 40% of your damage.
Lets see, Feral druids are now stacking armor pen, and according to
this SS
, his melee is now 67% of his overall damage, when before with bleed oriented gear and build, he'ld be around 50%. That's a 17% increase(but takes 403 ArP to achieve that).
So, if it has more strength, and just happens to have ArP on it and doesn't mess up your set bonuses, maybe you should think about using it since upgrades are still upgrades(I've seeen rets taking mail just cause it's an upgrade and no one wanted it).
Unfortunately, Seal of blood isn't based on damage done, but rather MW damage, so ArP could actually be much much better for Ret with one mechanic change. We'll see what happens with the next style change to ret...
