The lore reason for the Coliseum

I constantly hear "Oh what if we're camped right outside Icecrown why don't we just raid it now?" and "Why are we fighting each other instead of killing the Lich King now?", and I just figured I drop this in here since it seems like the right place - the reason we're not going for the Lich King now is if we threw a bunch of untrained peons at him, he'd just turn them around on us and annihilate us with them (like he has before). The only way we could defeat the Lich King is if we had a small group of trained individuals to send into the heart of his fortress and assassinate him before he can grow his armies further. This is one of the few times that I can say that lore-wise, it makes sense for us to be gearing up and training before we go into the next raid.

Gooood, you have finally succumbed to the ways of the lore-ists, now stay in this forum board and never look back....
Also, yes you are right. But did you have a question?

Not exactly, I was just simply saying that I here people saying that there isn't lore to back up 3.2 but it seems pretty lore consistent, and just figured I'd out and say it somewhere.
I guess my real question is why do people QQ and "lolore" when they don't really think about the reasons for things?

Mainly due to the fact that those people are usually the 11 years old and under that don't have the mental capacity to think beyond "MUST QQ CUZ I DIED AND WANT MOAR STUFF11!".
Your anwser short: Because some people are just idiots.

Could be there setting up new lore for the 3.2, as opposed to building on old stuff like sunwell and black temple.

Well, the Lich King is the strongest character we
might
be facing alone, so I do see a reason why our characters themselves would need training. We got help against Malygos and Yogg-saron, as well as help against Illidan and Kil'jaeden in the Burning Crusade. We've been saved far too many times for comfort, and it might be time that our character were trained and prepared for the next threat we faced (you know that losing and being drafted into the Scourge is a serious possibly if you've done the quests in Icecrown).

and sadly 8 out of 10 players in wow dont have any idea about any lore they just think its all about running around with a sword and randomly murdering things for no reason at all
That's me right there, but once a month, I do try to find a small post like this to understand something about the lore.
See you in a month.

Simples.
Argent Crusade notice Horde and Alliance at each others throats and that they couldnt take down the Lich King like this. So, they create the Tournament and Colosseum to simultaneously train an "NPC army" (Note in TBC the Sha'tar and Blood Knight forces already existed before they were needed, there is no such force in Northrend) and to reunite the two factions against a common enemy, even if they dont realise they are working together.
If you look in Dalaran on the PTR, it's swarming with Argent Peacekeepers.

In my opinion, it's rather simple actually.
If we fail by dying to the Lich King's armies - we'll all be raised as the undead, boosting his ranks by huge amounts. Dying in the Argent Tournament results in that not happening, and we were thus not worthy to face him.
It might sound blunt, but rather logical if you think it over a bit.

me I find this part in lore quite cool, not only do we get the change to hone our skills to fully prepare for the raid on the lich king, we also are being trained to fight side-by-side with the oposite factions.
sadly, on the past, we've never killed the major bosses alone, Maiev helps in Illidan, Kalecgos and that girl help with kil'jaeden.
we got help from the red dragons on malygos, the keepers of the world helped in yogg-saron.
this way ensures that no matter what guild kills a boss, from lore, a lore person aided by "adventurers" kills the boss.
from lore, it was maiev that ended Illidan, "with some help" it was alextrazsa's flight that ended malygos "with some help".
I can see that in icecrown, there will be some NPC who will "aid us" to kill arthas, and in the end from lore it was us who "helped" the NPC to kill arthas.
that NPC could be anyone, the major candidates are Tirion Fordring, Sylvannas Windrunner, and Varok Saurfang.
