While I see what you're saying, its not entirely true. A lot of the times taking that tank in full greens who's never set foot in the instance isn't going to add a challege, its going to add a headache because no amount of healing in the world is going to save him from running off and aggroing everything in the room and getting two shotted.
While its rediculous to ask that the players basically already have all the gear from the instance, they do need to be able to pull their fair share and not get carried through doing around 1k dps while everyone else is pulling 3 or 4k and then taking gear from those that need it also.
It goes both ways, "casuals" shouldn't expect to be carried through everything, they need to make some effort to get geared without waiting for things to be handed to them and the "elitists" need to step down off their high horse and accept that not everyone is going to be in full epics by the time they hit Nax 10/25. Thats the point of those dungeons right? To get geared?

But when someone goes "Oh, you didn't take THAT glyph did you?" (When I took the glyphs mentioned as "best" on Elitist Jerks site, Wowhead boards, AND other paladin forums) it just gets my hackles up.
I never do that personally. When I see someone not using the best spec/glyphs possible to them I politely ask them why - There may be a reason that makes it better that I don't know about. If they seem to not know that there are better ones I point them in the right direction to help them out, rather than ridicule them.

If you're complaining about elitist players, then clearly you are not elite, or skilled. General intelligence and ability to learn goes hand in hand with the ability to play this game and any other game, or do any other task in life. Clearly, if a player is continually making mistakes, is slow to learn, and as a result of this trend of behavior, is poorly geared, one could only assume that he is not worth the hassle of bringing along in a heroic, let alone a raid.
I think what people fail to see is that, Time is Money. Time is life. Time is Existence. Even though time is a relative term, and in the grand scheme of things, doesn't actually mean much to existence itself... but for us lowly vertebrates, time is everything. I for one, do not have time for scrub nuggets hampering my play style in a game, that I pay to play. Carrying bad players, in even worse gear is like direct slap in the face. I don't pay blizzard to baby sit the dribble heads and drain their drool pans.
IN short,if you're QQ'ing about elitists, maybe you should spend more time analyzing yourself and how to improve, instead of saying that other people aren't fair.
I'm not trying to brag, I'm trying to prove a point with this post.
Whether I'm tanking on my warrior, healing on my shaman, or doing damage with my hunter, people tell me that I've done an awesome job and that I've been added. While I would never call myself
elite
(because I don't like that term at all), I do consider myself a good player.
I met a warrior which asked me to craft an item for him. After doing the job he asks me if he can get some advice since he'd been continuously kicked out of heroic groups because he couldn't break 1k DPS. He had been told to L2P, log off and uninstall the game, GTFO, and many other rude remarks, without anyone even offering advice. I said I could help him by looking over his gear and talents if he was ok with it.
After four hours of explaining, testing and practice, his DPS was at 1,6k. He was overjoyed and a few weeks later he was doing raids on a regular basis with his new guild. The elitist players who told him to L2P
clearly
wasn't very perceptive, since they should have realised that this player might be new to raiding/heroics, resulting in a lack of experience instead of skill. Instead of politely saying that he was holding them back they simply kicked him and sent him rude remarks. And that is how elitists act.
Being better than others is not elitist. Being condescending and having a sense of entitlement because of your superior gear or skill is. So, while I haven't directly complained about elitists, I have voiced my negative views on them. This
clearly
goes against your first statement, so please enlighten me and the rest as to what the explanation for this happening is.

The elite are the best.
Elitists need to tell you.
It may not be explicit, but they will.
They also tend to be more insecure in their position, and are more likely to talk in absolutes.

If someone is the victim of criticism it is because they brought it upon themselves.
Absolutely wrong.

How do you figure ? Every choice, action, even accepting to exist and living each day is an individuals choice. Therefore they are accepting the consequences. Criticism is the most common place form of interaction between people, and is the consequence for being an individual. Not all criticism is negative though.
Choosing to post is your choice, and my choice. We both accept to be criticized for said choice. If you don't believe that, then you have bigger problems than I or anyone else can help you with.
Life isn't fair, and the world doesn't care.
Criticism requires an objective ideal for your paradigm, there is no such thing.
Everything is subjective, while you may criticise someone for not meeting
your
ideal, as long as they meet
their
ideal, then they have not bought it upon themselves.
Unless you are so naive to think that you should strive to be defined by others.
