I'm in awe of Uldum. such cinematics. why is questing in desert zones so satisfying? especially going affliction, striding through that beautiful sand and dot-kiting scorpions and &*!@ to death. there really is something sublime about it =)

In cata i found CoEx quite usefull even in PvE.
(you can either sacrifice a point in jinx or SL, i need to figure out which is better)
Most adds and trash are snareable and it makes the fights much more easy sometimes when you need to kite them. (e.g. 3rd boss in Lost city, final boss in stonecore etc.)
Besides, i yesterday solo killed two 390k HP melee mobs in throne of tides hc, kiting them around the elevator...took a few minutes. (group wiped after several cc breaks...it was a PUG)

gotta love it when your pug fails because they're idiots and you get to school them in how to get the job done ^_^
kiting is definitely a valid method of CC these days but remember that it takes a DPSer out of the picture so it should be considered the last option for when mobs are CC-immune (like deadmines) or in specific boss fights (3rd boss in tol'vir for sure!).
as someone who played back when the only way to use fear as CC was to pingpong mobs with CoR, i've got to say that i'm really loving using fear as a fully functioning CC now (with the glyph).

I am aware or that, however, i found that with CoEx on the mobs you still have plenty of time to use your shorter cast time spells to maintain decent DPS as affliction lock.
I also love the glyphed fear and the fact that i can reliably perma cc 3 mobs at the same time (fear, banish, seduce) without the feared mob running out of LOS.
My guild is more PvP oriented, so i do more PUGs these days and you dont believe how many 85s are still mentally in wotlk. Healers without drinks, tanks charging pre-sap, AoE cc breaks, 3k dps in hcs and think they can get away with that...endless list.

Need to add people who think they're hot $%^& and will one shot everything no matter what. I can't count how many people I've randomed with who drop group on the first wipe of the boss when none of us had ever done heroic before ^_^
Also had a guild group minus tank last night and the tank thought that cc was overrated and if we were good we wouldn't need it. After wiping once we managed to set him straight, but this I'm the best and nothing can stop me mentality is quite ridiculous.

well, a lot of the current player base have joined the game since the release of wrath so that's the only game they've known. i think it will take a little time but the general mentality will change as people get used to it.

This is exactly what was happening in Ruby Sanctum as well. People assumed it woul be faceroll, but they forgot there was no Hellscream/Strength of Wrynn to faceroll them through it. Wotlk left many players rather arrogent about their abilities imo, and from the looks of cata, they are in for a hell of a wake up call.

Actually I found Ulduar to be a semi wake up call for raiding, before they nerfed the hell out of it.
Trash/Alg/Firefighter was still fun on 25man though, even with ICC gear xD

Including myself. Some of us just aren't retarded I guess.

So you don't like trash in Cata heroics then? Because that's what Ulduar trash used to be like as well (kind of).
Do you actually remember ulduar trash?
the 2 giants you tank away from each other and then nuke the orb that flies from one to the other to avoid your tank getting hammered.
Trash before Mimiron: ranged nuke down the bomb before it reaches the raid. When 1 person gets into the spiderbot, he can charge in and explode the mobs. And the little gnomes in those trashpacks summon ice turrets, which give a stacking movement debuff.
And don't get me started on Conservatory of Life or trash before Vezax. Vezax trash was actually harder than
the boss
himself.
So you don't find that fun? What planet are
YOU
from?

affliction feels weak to me but i may be speaking very subjectively there. however, it is by far the easiest of the three specs to manage whether playing drain or nuke variations.
demo mostly suffers from the same thing we were seeing at 80 but with less scope for reforging to hit magic haste levels. HoG is a broken mechanic that could so easily be tweaked to make it work well. the spec is fine but i find that one thing so annoying that i don't enjoy demo any more.
destro is incredibly complicated (in 5mans where you need to bring ISB and CoE etc particularly) but, for me, the most rewarding by far.

My approach to affliction dps is not to try topping the dps chart but bottoming the healing needed chart. Dont get me wrong, i do top the dps sometimes, which i am pretty proud of as PvE for me is a secondary part of my wow experience but right now, with healer mana a big issue, i feel rather independent as drain aff.

Eh. Void Reaver trash ruined it for me.
I don't enjoy trash. I consider it a minor inconvenience that adds flavor to the instance.
And yes, I have done Ulduar trash, btw.
Also, difficult =/= fun for everyone. What I enjoy are some nice, unique mechanics.
