Ok this is my boyfriend's character. He dinged 80 on this (his first) character not long ago and was ret spec. We spent quite a bit of time and money gearing him up to tank because that's what he wanted to do. We tried Utgarde Keep heroic, it was fine.. we've been doing it every day since for the badges. Yesterday, we tried Gun'drak for the daily and it wasn't fine. He had a very hard time keeping aggro off the dps, thus making my job (as healer) a heck of a lot harder. We finished it, but it wasn't fun.
So I'm asking if anyone can see any glaring mistakes in his spec/gear that we can fix or if he just needs more practice as a tank? I know nothing about tankadins (or tanking in general) and he doesn't have a lot of time to do research because of his job (which is why I'm asking for him.. I will send him a link to this thread).

Link him to
this
first.
It should only take him about 15 minutes to read the stickies.

1st thing i notice is that there is an empty glyph slot. Get
this A.S.A.P.
Please check out the
Stickies
namely the protection section on
969 rotation
This
Guide
has many many good specs to chose from.

Ok, so glyph (I didn't notice he only had 2, that should've been obvious even to me).. better gems (his jc is maxed).. and I'll have him read all these links. Thanks all, very helpful. :-)

This
is the spec that I recommend. (glyphs too)
Now... if he goes to tank raids... I would remove the point from spiritual attunement, and put it in the last spot of crusade.
Only need 1 for raids... but ive found that having both points in SA for heroics is nice.

Make sure he has Righteous Fury up at all times. That seems to be missed quite a bit, especially if he dies. He needs to make sure he has this up to increase his threat. Have the DPS wait a couple of seconds for him to build his threat. Something as simple as that could have been the cause.

I just wanted to come back and say that he made a lot of changes last night based on this thread (still some to go, can't do it all in one night :D) and he said it was a LOT better... and last night's runs were much easier on me. :D So thank you again for all of your help. :)

Thanks for all the comments and help here.
I started with respeccing to Valundar's suggestion. (with slight variation)
To be honest, I used to use SoW. Blah... I knew that SoV was much better but whenever I tried it, I would have mana issues. Maybe because I wasn't doing my rotation very well or maybe because I was forgetting to pop divine plea or something else. Anyway, I must say 2nd point in spiritual attunement helped me a lot in that sense. I had put one point in Benediction instead of Imp. BoM just to make sure I have no mana problems at all but now I'm so full of mana that I think I'll invest that one point back to Imp. BoM or something else. :)
I also knew that Glyph of SoV was mandatory and very good threat but because of the same reason (mana problems) I never got it. But now, it's doing a good amount of work since I'm using SoV without any mana problems. :)
I usually remember to keep RF up or even if I forget, I realize it very quickly. Well.. Thanks to my awesome healer, I don't die anyway. :D
We farmed ToC normal a lot of times over the last few days. I'm so used to it that I can do it in my sleep now. :D UK and Nexus HC are pretty smooth too. We also tried UP HC which I thought I wouldn't be able to do but we did actually pretty well.
I got used to my rotation very well, got used to changing the camera angels and watching runners and taunting them back, moving around when needed (consecrating some adds and pulling them off the healer or running away from the poison or the ice etc.) I guess that as long as I focus well on my environment and the dps is not too rushy, most of the HC's should be fine for us from now on. Impatient dps can cause a lot of trouble even in UK HC though, as I experienced today, hehe.
I think I will switch my Judg. glyph with HotR glyph. It really should be good with 4-mob-pulls.
I'm planning to buy my chest upgrade with 58 emblems at the moment.
And I'll switch my parry gem with probably a dodge one. My healer is quite happy with my EH so I don't think I'll gem more stamina but we'll see. Whichever way my healer feels more comfortable. :)
Thank you all for your precious help. I still have some more stuff to read from those links but even now I feel like I'm doing a lot better. :)
And of course many thanks to my girlfriend for opening this thread. :-)

First and foremost, a lot of the guys on the paladin forums are going to say go read the stickies.
And they are not doing it because they want to be jerks
I dont understand the bold part!

I didn't see it mentioned so I'm going to say it (mainly because I've done it).
Make sure that
Righteous Fury
is active. If it's not, it can be VERY difficult to maintain aggro.
Not long ago I did a PUG for heroic TOC after finishing WG and stupidly I forgot to make sure that RF was back on. Half way through faction champs I realized that I just couldn't seem to hold aggro on them and realized what I had done. Luckily, no one died, but the tree had a bit of trouble with the heals, but he kept us all alive.
