Hello Whizzurd,
yes, there is some truth there. I have been playing dk since 2013 and I have fully leveled up 3 of them, and I have leveled up some more on the early stages.
As you say, you are quite a bit dependant on healer. Dk survivability depends on mainly on death strike, as opposed to other tanks who have more mitigation skills.
At the early stages, your runes don't reload as fast. My suggestions would be:
- Maximize resources use to get more Death Strikes. Thus, see which abilities provide you the more runic power possible, to try to maximize its generation.
- Maximize the use of runes when last mob is going to die. Don't waste your runic power on it, save it for the next pack. Instead, use pending runes to generate more runic power on the pool.
- The more damage you receive, the more you heal, your death strike usually is better used just after a huge hit. Even, if you sinc it just after the strike, your healer won't even notice it.
And with the help of the group:
Don't pack a lot of addsRequest dps at the beginning of the dungeon to avoid pulling mobs.
For the benefit of the group you will pull as much as you know you can deal with.
For big packs of mobs, wait a bit to get all your runes back. You are leading, so take care of yourself too.
The healer is your best friend. Be sure you give healer time to get mana back. I even had food for them when we shared regions.
I hope you find this helpful.
