Suggestion: upload should contribute to reputation

I said this in another thread while I was saying something else so I figure I should copy it out here.
Incorporate data upload into the reputation system. Without people running the client there would be less data for people to comment on or upload screenshots for!

I was under the impression that each unique data upload was worth a portion of reputation. I'm probably wrong though.

Uploads do not currently contribute to your reputation score.
We thought about incorporating data uploads to augment this feature, but unfortunately the potential exists to easily abuse this and skew the reputation calculation. If we based the calculation on number of uploads, someone could easily upload very small packets of data several hundred times, thus increasing their rep with small and meaningless uploads. On the other hand, if we based it on upload size, someone could easily perform repetitive and meaningless tasks to boost the size of their upload, thus skewing the data and the database sampling.
In the end, we decided not to incorporate uploads into the reputation calculation, since these cannot be moderated like comments and screenshots. Keep in mind that reputation is meant to be a fun way of calculating your contribution to the site. By adding uploads to the reputation score, we felt that people would be compelled to "grind for rep" using 'dirty' uploads, which would result in a collection of data that was not truly reflective of the gaming experience.
We want to make sure the data within Wowhead is as accurate as possible with regard to the actual conditions within the game. Wowhead strives to be the best resource with regard to World of Warcraft, and as such we wish to deter opportunities to pollute the data within the database.
We definitely appreciate your suggestions, though, and look forward to hearing more of your great ideas!

Do you guys tag eventual data rows with a source ID/text that's invisible publicly but has the same sort of data as the contributor in Thottbot?

What do you mean?

At the bottom of the item tooltip you can see the contributor.
I guess what I'm getting at is you could add reputation points based on stuff that people upload that sucessfully gets committed to the live database doing one of the following:
creates a new object (spell, item, ...)
augments the drop rate of an item
...
Actually ... a lot of your object creation is data mined by you guys isn't it...
Meh, I got nothing. The users basically submit drops per kills, drop locations .... what else?

The first problem is that it is not technically possible to show "First uploaders" for a major part of the website's data.
The second problem is, even if it were, it'd likely encourage users to upload fake/spoofed data just to get reputation etc.
In the end, it's not a feature we're planning to implement. Things can always change though.

Yeah ... now that I thought about it while trying to explain it I see where you're coming from.
