OK so i made a new rogue so i could help out my girl who just started playin, she wanted a rogue, so i figure ill run around with her and level both characters up together till she gets the ropes... for mainly PvE with some casual PvP mixed in for fun/gear what is the "cookie cutter" build i should use for leveling to 70... ill worry about my end game tree when i get there... but can someone give me a link?
also... what stats are most important for rogues? I assume agility and +hit are tops of that list but what else is there?

It might help, particularly with your question regarding stats.
It's a bit long-winded for such simple questions though, and I haven't completed the levelling section of it, so I'll give you the rundown. Stamina, attack power and agility are your bread and butter while levelling, as you'll find more of those stats on pre-60 rogue gear than anything else. Stamina is actually useful for levelling as it helps prevent unnecessary deaths and saves you time. By all means, if you can get your hands on gear with hit rating and crit rating while levelling, go for it - I just don't think there's that much until post 60. Wowhead's search function could help you find some.
As for a levelling build, I suggest
this
. Fill out all the points in combat before heading onto assassination.

thats a variation of the combat swords spec... correct? which one is that on the sticky... what did you call it i mean?

It's not on the sticky yet, it will be in the levelling section. It's a variation of the raiding sword spec in the sticky, one which is more effective for the actual levelling process.

Quick question on that build Remx-
Do you think it's feasable to slightly rework the build like so:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=fheboxZGcEz0VzxMhot
Obviously once running heroics/raiding becomes the primary function, riposte becomes far less useful, but I found it to be really good levelling when fighting humanoid mobs, and the additional 5% to parry will only increas your survivablity.
Of course - levelling is less about min-maxing than raiding and as such the builds tend to be more flexible and cater to personal preference rather than peak performance. The build you linked is also really good for levelling. We could probably come up with a whole list of good levelling builds, I tend to just include the one that I use for brevity. I don't recommend people adhere to my word like law, modifications as per personal preference are more often than not a good idea, providing they're logical.

The official rogue forums have more to do with its personalities than the class itself. Ever noticed how stuff like the Kingdom of Ernor meetings and anything involving Ming, let alone anything he posts, gets more attention from the community than legitimate class questions or even theory and testing?
It's an OK resource for keeping yourself up to date with what's happening in the community, and there are personalities there who will steer you in the right direction (try asking Scritty about anything PVE), but beyond that it's just a lot of crap and misinformation. Take anything you read there with a grain of salt, unless it's from a reliable source (i.e. someone who doesn't have ratings in the 1400s or raids with a hit rating lower than their strength total).
