Both cases the night elves were in the wrong. In the wrong.... for defending their homelands from the invaders? The invaders who chopped at their trees, and... well just because we don't see it, we know the Legion and the Scourge were on the lands as well, so they might have run into them first, and felt that all invaders were the same.
It wasn't right.... but still, no different then anyone defending their homelands from a 'hostile' force.

I don't think it's unbelieveable that they could get over past grievances but it does annoy me how it was so "RAWR ME KILL YOU!" then suddenly its all "<3 wanna join my guild?"
Well, there's four years in the timeline that we don't know about... that's how.

Well not all Night Elves feel that way of course, but when your two leaders; A Druid who just blew up a monsterous Demon(Not to mention the world 11k years ago) and a pyscho who listens to Elune tells you to play nice with the new pink skins.... are you really going to say no?

I don't know why the Blood Elves would want to declare war on the Horde and the Night Elves.
In this model they don't want to declare war on the Horde. The way I see it is simply that just because of their damaged relations with the Alliance, doesn't necessarily mean they HAVE to join the Horde.
Besides that, they do have fair reasons to hate the trolls (this is even pointed out by the Horde Emissary NPCs in Silvermoon), and the Orcs did kind of destroy Eversong Woods in the Second War.
Edit: And I think the relationship between the Blood Elves and the Night Elves really speaks for itself.

There's an add-on called
Gryphonheart Reputation
you might want to look into.
Looks interesting, but I don't play on an RP server ):
