As a starter, get the Heavy Clefthoof set. High armor, stam, defense and not to mention sockets. The set bonuses help with dodge as well. The ring from heroics that has like 300 armor, lots of stam and def. works great too. The heroics gear should be what you should be aiming for, as well as Earthwarden. This is what I used, and am still using. Dont forget your 415 Defense cap, get it and keep it, then focus more on stam/dodge.

In regards to gear:
Shoulders - Not really much choice - either save up the honour for the Gladiators, or get the Wastewalker Shoulderpads (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27797
) from heroic Crypts.
Gloves - Verdant Gloves (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30943
) always did well for me, it's a reward from the Ashtongue Deathsworn quest chain in SMV.
Bracers - Umberhowl's Collar (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30944
) is the obvious choice, from the Cipher of Damnation quest chain in SMV.
Head - I have yet to replace my Stylin' Purple Hat (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=25680
), easily craftable and any druid worth their salt should have leatherworking. The pattern drops in Slabs from Blackheart. Make sure to put a Glyph of the Defender (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29186
) on it.
Rings - There are a few druid rings out there, so far the best for tanking are, in no particular order:
Shermanaar Great-Ring (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28675
)
Violet Signet of the Great Protector (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29279
)
Ring of Unyielding Force (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29384
)
there are a few better, but those are the most easily obtainable. Two are from kara and one is from heroic turnins. If you're looking for a second ring and can't raid, try the Lieutenant's Signet of Lordaeron (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=28211
) from heroic Durnholde (Old Hillsbrad).
In regards to strategies:
Bears aren't usually the best for holding aggro on multiple mobs at once - warriors have thunderclap and pallys have consecration aura, while bears only have swipe, which is mediocre at best. This problem becomes apparent in places like Shattered Halls, where you're asked to tank up to five mobs at once.
Personally I don't have any trouble with holding aggro after the initial pull - remember that the healers will be doing a negligible amount of threat because of the number of mobs. The main problem should be holding aggro on the main target while still maintaining threat on the secondary targets. Swipe is useful to a degree but I find that simply spamming swipe doesn't hold enough threat in itself to keep the main target interested. Instead, I stack my lacerates, mangle, then target another target for a few seconds to get a few hits in before changing back to your main target and mangling again, once the cooldown is up. Make sure to keep your lacerates stacked on the main target and just keep rotating which secondary target you aim for - using a few swipes to get them all if you're tanking more than two is a good idea - and save your growl cooldown for when either your main target breaks away and goes for a DPS or a secondary target breaks and heads to the healer(s).
I wish there was an easier way to explain it, but for me it's almost second nature now. Congratulations if you can actually understand any of that. >.<

Some more options:
Shoulderpads of Assassination
, normal/heroic Sethekk Halls (higher stamina, same agility as Wastewalker, so superior for tanking in my opinion - do, though, ask at the start of the instance if they mind you rolling on that if you find yourself in a Sethekk group with a rogue... it is "their" set after all)
Mantle of Shadowy Embrace
(Heroic Blood Furnace)

Shameless plug for Rawr inc ----->
Rawr
Look at that to be honest, imo its one of the best tanking gear programs out there. Or well alternatively you can look at
Emmerald's gear lists
. Not as up to date as Rawr is though.
For multi target tanking you want to mark the one that dies first, so your party knows, hit mangle work up a few lacerates, do a demo roar + swipe then tab to another enemy and work some lacerates. You might lose the 3rd mob to a healer or a nib dps so save taunt for that one. If the mob runs off, don't run after it just charge after it when it gets in range and taunt away.
When you get more comfortable with multi target tanking, tab + swipe is handy to do :)
RAWR does have the major flaw that it is a Windows-only program?

The next version that includes the new stuff is gonna be out in a few days/weeks. He's tweaking some of the math and changing the way things are displayed a bit.

I was getting ready to post a big long post about this because I was a Feral Tank for long time. But everything I was going to say was pretty much covered by Rastafa in the second reply.
The only thing I would add is in regards to tanking multiple mobs (and it's funny that you said it's second nature Rastafa because it really becomes that way after a while).
Mangle the Main Target, lacerate him once or twice, demoralizing roar, swipe and switch targets...(Enrage anywhere in this combo that you feel comfortable, earlier the better though). ..growl, switch target, lacerate twice, back to main target, mangle. By this time the main target should be close to dead and the growl on the second target will be fading. Switch to that second target and repeat above combo.
Also...if you have aggro on the main target switch to another as soon as he reaches about 25% health...you're aggro should stay on you long enough so you charge to another or start tanking the other pulls.
Also a little tip for newbie tanks, USE FUROR! Before the pull stay in caster form...right as the pull start go bear form to get your 10rage...then pop enrage...by the time the mobs reach you you will have like 25 rage. This is a must, imo, for holding aggro on groups.

As always, I would caution against using a taunt only for the 3 second force-aggro it gives you...

I'm a druid-tank, and I tank multiple mobs without any problems.
Mark the mobs, Feral Charge, and wham, here it goes.
Mangle on the main, swipe the rest, mangle when CD's up, continue with swipe.
That simple. With quite decent gear, you should manage to keep aggro. If you are, however, facing 4+ mobs, Maul+Mangle the first mob, then use the mouse-over lacerate until mangle is down again, then mangle your main-target. give your adds two doses of lacerate, and then start swiping them (as your main-target should be closer to death now)
Might be slightly difficult for lesser geared tanks, my gear is starting to be replaced by Kara/Zul'Aman Epics.

Yes 415 is the go for druids. It's the same 490 as warriors/paladins subtract Survival of the Fittest talent = 415. You can also sub some resilience in if needbe, since some of the PVP gear is great for tanking (high armor / stamina)
