what exactly does defense rating do? seems like everyone maxes out that talent.
like Hebrew said, it get you uncrittable at 490
it also adds to miss, dodge, parry and block chances
and ardent defender? 35 percent health then reduced damage? i dunno.... for pve with a good healer it seems i nearly never get that low... comments suggestions?
it's one of those things that you rarely need, but when you do, it comes in really handy

multi-mob trash pulling
healers are stunned and you need a couple seconds
you were hit by concussion of attacks and abilities

Ok, more explanation behind Defense. Defense increases your chance to dodge, parry, block, etc. which in turn decreases the chance that you will be critically struck.
There is an attack table that all attacks get put up against (

Criticals fall below Miss, Dodge, Parry and Block in that order and before normal attacks. If you have a 5% chance to be missed, dodge, parry or block then this is how the table would look for a dice roll of 100:
1-5 Mob misses you
6-10 you dodge
11-15 you parry
16-20 you block
21-25 mob criticals you
26-100 mob hits you
Defense will raise the ranges of the first 4 and at a certain point (490 defense at 70) criticals can be pushed completely off the table.

True but i was explaining what the "uncrittable means" so many people throw it around without understanding how it comes about. Mobs will always have a small percent to crit but it is very miniscle and not worth talking about. Also the 490 is assuming that the mobs don't have any crit% buffs as well.
