Prominent figures
Among the many figures confirmed to have major roles in the story of Cataclysm are:
Deathwing, formerly Neltharion the Earth-Warder, confirmed as the principal villain of the expansion.
Thrall, who, being the leader of the Horde and the world's strongest shaman, has plenty of work to do after the Cataclysm.
Garrosh Hellscream, who continues to cause internal tensions in the Horde.
Varian Wrynn, who leads the Alliance after the Cataclysm.
Malfurion Stormrage, who returns to prevent Mount Hyjal from being destroyed.
Brann Bronzebeard, up to his old tricks as leader of the expedition into the newly-uncovered Uldum region.
Genn Greymane, King of Gilneas, who helps administer a cure for the worgen curse to his now-transformed people.
Nefarian, also known as Victor Nefarius, son of Deathwing, who survived and retreated further into Blackrock Spire.
Ragnaros, who remains alive to challenge the world in Mount Hyjal, and later in Sulfuron Keep in his own realm, the Firelands.
The Twilight Hammer cult is a major player in the new expansion; its minions are revealed to be working for Deathwing.
It was originally expected that Queen Azshara would be a significant player in the expansion, but game designer Tom Chilton confirmed at the 2009 Blizzcon convention (in the Q&A session of the "Raids and Dungeons" panel) that Azshara and the city of Nazjatar would not be featured in this expansion; potentially this leaves her as a major focus of a future expansion. Blizzard does, however, list her amongst the featured players in Cataclysm, so it is possible we will feel her presence throughout the expansion, even if she does not herself make an appearance.

/HAPPY DANCE! No big-breasted queen of idiots in Cataclysm... oh I'm going to be happy about that for a long long long time.
Also, Nefarion is back.... didn't we take his head?

He's in there Delt, between Genn and Ragnaros.
im seriously &*!@ed my Queen has so little appearance in Cataclysm
I'm not, this is Deathwing's time to shine, Queen Big-breast can have the next one.

Deathwing sure is one of the most interesting villians in warcraft lore so i dont mind that he gets one expansion for himself although i speculated that he would be just a content patch around an expansion with Azshara as main villian
turns out its the other way around
i dont think Azshara will get an expansion for herself after cataclysm because there is just not enough content with kezan being destroyed (?) and the other isles like Zandalar etc. will probably also be destroyed
As much as I personally hate Big-Breast, I'm sure the rising of Nazjatar coming up out of the Maelstorm could be expended into a full expansion, espically if they go 86-90 for it. There already ready to alter the world with Cataclysm, not like it would be that hard to have a naga invasion all across the world, with some of the coastal cities being taken over by the scaly freaks.....
And I still hate Big-breast heh.
Thats what feels strange. The Great sea is being revealed but not Nazjatar?
Technically, Deepholme is coming up on the coast between Wetlands, Ironforge and Stormwind, with the "Abyssal Maw" coming up near it... so there's still a lot of the sea out there to find and discover.

More then likely..... alright so I messed up there, I admit it. But for all we know there are few more settlements of Island Trolls hiding, or another group of random old Horde still sitting around like a certain Ogre Mage who is now in AQ with a chicken beak for one of his mouths.

Varian Wrynn, who leads the Alliance after the Cataclysm.
What's Jaina doing? Ah, probably part of Me'dan Sue's little magic tea party. WHY? :(

Or she's up in Hyjal fawning over Thrall as he and Malfurion deal with giant Fire Lord of Death.

But wouldn't she then be a major player like Malfurion and Thrall?
Unless they decide to kill her off, but if they do that
I'll quit playing
Oh wait, I have. :| Um...CRY

Well, Tyrande, Cairne, Sylvanas and Magni Bronzebeard aren't mentioned either so...... could be there just going with those they know 100% are going to be doing something... after all, Tyrande is going to be pretty PO'ed that Malfurion wakes up after all the stuff she is going to be doing in Stormrage and just runs away to Hyjal to stop the Fire lord.....
*Has a vision of Tyrande chasing Malfurion with a frying pan, trying to smash him into the ground.*

YES! She must sure regret her decision now...
But to be honest, Tyrande has always been second best to an explosion for Malfurion. Poor woman...
