Hey all,
just wondered what your take on this is. Usually when healing 5-man Heroics and 10-man Raids, I always keep an eye on Hunter and Warlock pets on trash pulls, but usually have my hands full on Boss fights, which results in a pet dying every now and then due to an AoE or a phase aggro reset.
My argument is that it's more important to keep the party at full health (and prepared for possible unexpected damage) than tend to the pets during intense encounters, but I'm curious as to what your policy on that is. Do you consider yourself (at least in part) responsible for your party pets, or do you rely on the owners' foresight and micromanagement?

It's the owners job hands down to heal a pet. The only reason you should be healing a pet is b/c you feel like it, but it is in no way, shape, or form your job to heal them.

I have my grid set to not show pets, therefore i do not heal them. In groups, i might toss them a heal once in a while since i have party frames enabled, but otherwise, raid healers/their owners can handle it. My attention belongs to the tank.

True true, I always feel like healing pets though. Especially in 5 mans, I'd heal a pet through hell and high water as if it were dps. I even heal them a bit on heigan when there getting there little pet faces blown off by stupid slime as you have a lot of free time if you don't.
I just felt like telling you, I started laughing at that comment. A lot. I have no idea why.

I get the "Oh my god, you healed my pet!" reaction out of Hunters a lot.... Even the ones who then tell me not to worry about their pet are grateful that I did something to acknowledge its existence.
In a really tough fight where it's hell just keeping human players up, obviously I have to prioritize, and that pet's goin' down long before any human players. But I can't justify
to myself
refusing to heal pets at all. They don't get priority, but I don't ignore their sad, dwindling little bars either.
A pet is often such a major part of a pet class's dps (and in a 5 man it's like getting another, albeit weaker and...
sometimes
dumber, party member). Sure, it
is
their responsibility to mend the pet, but that doesn't mean that I stand by and do nothing while it's dying. I'd feel like I was tying the other player's hands behind their back a bit if I just ignored it.
At the least, I pop a shield on it as a signal to the owner to get a damned mend out (and to give them time to do that).
Particularly effective for BMs sporting Devilsaurs >.> Gigantic bubble! Very clear warning that something's amiss.
Sometimes we get a little blinded by all the green bars and miss things in our environment (even though we shouldn't and sometimes even when we know better). In the same way, their eyes are often on the field...so I like to put the warning in the field for them. Just like things get hectic for us and we sometimes miss things sometimes, so do they. If I can help without causing problems, I will. Besides, I find the shield-as-signal is more effective than just healing it for them. It reminds them to think of it, and often they don't need the pet shielded again. And nobody's pet had to die for the reminder!
But for tank healers...seriously, screw the damned pets ;) Same goes for temporary pets like Water Elementals.

I heal them if I have time but it isn't really something I worry about. Pet owners who complain about no pet healing when I am busy keeping the tank alive get ignored. I rarely have problems with pet owners and when I do it is normally because the owner is dumber than the pet.

going from hunter to healer, pets are usually last on the list to get heals. I usually got flamed for even trying to keep a pet up. the only time I heal a pet is in passing on quests

Pets use up my CoH and PoM instead of another player...
I've seen Spirit Wolves use an entire PoM in about 3 seconds.

im glad theres less huntards in the world now. ive had a hunter save my skin alot lately. when im on mine i try to do the same for healers.
Less maybe, but the ones out there really make me cringe. I've seen 4 huntards at <1k dps in heroics at 80...Common, while I don't have a hunter myself, my friend was pulling 1.6k on the dummies at lvl 73... In case anyone is wondering, the worst huntard was only pulling 647. I have yet to see any other class manage this feat at 80.
I do find it funny when people tell dps they better start doing more damage or the healer will pass them up. I'm normally pulling around 200-400 dps while keeping everyone topped off in heroics. I find the extra dps usually helps...though normally I sit back and be lazy.
