If you have to pay for loot from bosses that you helped down something is very wrong, leave the pug or quit your guild.
^ this. Also, I didnt know that people actually pay to roll for epic gear items.

I paid 3k for illustration of the dragon soul because it's BIS for warlocks and I had grown fast tired of losing it to ret pallies saying their off-spec was holy. So I offered the winning roller 3k to have the RL loot it to me, and he agreed. I parted with 30% of my liquid assets, got a BIS trinket. Seems fair to me.

lol Ok..so people actually pay 10000s of gold just to roll on epic in raids? Wow thats new to me. I mean I've never faced this on my realm. =S I just roll for it and if my roll is higher then anyone else its mine fair and square.
God help me if the raid leader asks me for 1k to roll on the shoulders / legs of the lost vanquisher.

I think I did that already and then I had to hear whining from the same people. Actually my first Naxx 10 men run the raid leader wouldnt let me roll for anything that I could use until the time I decided to leave the raid telling them that its just unfair to me. I left the raid anyways because they might do the samething over and over again.
Then for a week those people kept on whining that I left the raid without any reason, spreaded roumers that I can not dps for heroic instences either. Believe me for a month you can say I ran through hell.
Then finally when I proved my point that those people wouldnt let me roll for anything everyone on my realm sympathyzed and now request me to join for their instence run, and raid runs on occassions.

I never did it before. After "my" Turning Tide was sold because the master looter wanted cash, I thought I would start paying for items that I want - if I lose out on the roll.
It wont work, you are wasting gold and you know why?
Down on the raiding road you'll find another gear piece which is an upgrade and regret that you paid 1000g for the gear piece you obtain.

if someone wants to waste their cash buying an item in a raid, i say let them. i'll get it eventually (or something better) by rolling fair and square. i never carry more than 200g on a toon, and leave the rest on my bank alt for when it's needed. i also turn down anyone who offers to pay me for something i won. that's just me. and in my experience, i rarely see someone give up an item they won for money. usually everyone ignores the guy /yelling "I GIVE U 1009G FOR UBER EPIX, IZ ALL THE MONEYS I HAZ!11!"
really, it depends on the player. some people put more importance into gear, others non-combat pets and others achieves. someone paying 2k for tier helm vs. someone paying 2k for a non-combat pet...is there really a difference? they are both items someone else was lucky enough to win/loot.
it's just as bad as those pugs where you are invited and the raid leader says "but __this item__ is reserved." "k." /leave
just my opinion. i don't see anything wrong with it, to be honest, unless someone is buying every epic in the raid and carrying 50k on them or something. and if they are... start rolling on everything you can't even use and profit.

I dont see a problem with it as an addition to standard master looting. ie just before a roll, person X offers 2K gold to buy the item from the winner. The winner of the roll then has the option (not obligation) of passing the loot to the buyer. Where it would become a problem is if the loot master is in on it (ie conflict of interest). Or if the master requires gold before he will release an item.

I offered 10000 gold for
Preceptor's Bindings
for my mage.
Are you insane? I could jump on trade chat at any time of day and say "Buying BoE Valor Bracers for 600g" and have a dozen tells in a seconds, and you offer to buy an inferior item for 10k gold? You are either lying, trolling, or both. The post doesn't make any sense.

Buying items from raids is nothing new. Plenty of 'hardcore' guilds did it in Vanilla to help cover costs of raiding while getting use out of those drops not needed by the guild. People would buy a run through content on farm to get items they wanted. Ofcourse epics were harder to come by back then, so it made sense.
Buying an item from the winner of a roll is stupid though. If they're willing to sell the item they just won, they obviously don't 'need' it. I wouldn't stay in that raid, or be in any future raids with that person, that's for sure.
The only items I could see this being an acceptable option would be on the novelty items (mounts, joke trinkets), since no one really 'needs' them. Personally, I'd offer up all of my money for the Heroic EoE mount or Phoenix from TE, shame they never drop. What else am I supposed to do with 100k if I don't spend it?

This. As long as it's the choice of the roll-winner, I don't have a problem with the concept of buying out raid epics. It gives an extra chance for someone who is desperate for a certain BiS without jeopardizing the fairness of the roll system.
Personally, though, I'm far too attached to my gold (and liquid assets) to invest in an epic that way. It's not my cup of tea and I'd leave a raid as soon as I realize it will force gold out of me for loot.
