I relize that pre mana regen nerf to us Int was the way to go because the more we crit the more mana we got in return...
Stacking int had very little to do with mana return from crits.

More Intellect = more mana = more mana returned from Divine Plea = less need to DP = more time healing. Since paladin heals are already big and nicely fat, more SP doesn't do much good. And since our crit is high too, gemming for that is not optimal either.

Haste - 27.51%

Haste - 7.69 %
How about your mana pools?

Look at his spec. If he were to use 51/0/18 +2 like you, he'd have about 44% Crit. He didn't gear or gem specifically for Mp5, so that's why that stat is close between you two. He's socketing with epic gems, he's leveled BS to get the two extra sockets
and
JC to get even more. He has about 15k mana over you, too. That's the gear gap between you two.
Don't compare your 200 gear to someone in a good chunk of 245 gear.

I seem to recall not only post on here but also on the wow forums in replys from other paladins that Int was the way to go... More int - more crit - more mana returned..
10 gems = 200 int = 1.2% crit
Now compare the mana regen you get from that to the mana that same amount of int gives you with Divine Plea.
Even if we didn't get any regen from crit, int would still be the best stat.

The stats being similar better be a sick joke, saying your mana pool is lasting fine means 1 of 2 things. Your not pulling your weight OR, the content your doing is discustingly easy because your raid outgears it. That 14k mana difference which you ignored is the difference of (14*1.2) roughly 17 secs at a full holy light spam before any cooldowns, buffs or regen effects...
To say your stats are similar is like getting a
metal storm
and a 9mm, then shooting both at a watermelon and saying "well both penetrated the watermelon must be similar in power..."

Key Difference:
Your Unbuffed Mana: 20,322
Your Unbuffed Mana gained from DP (25%): ~5,000 mana
Your Unbuffed Mana gain from Replenish (.25% every sec * 5secs): 254 MP5
His Unbuffed Mana: 34,339
His Unbuffed Mana gained from DP (25%): ~8,500 mana
His Unbuffed Mana gain from Replenish (.25% every sec * 5secs): 429 MP5
Even though the armory says your mp5 is better, his undocumented mana gain
CRUSHES
yours.
Also, don't discount the output power of Haste.

Haste is the best stat to get more heals in, hovever there are only two good gemming ideas.
Spam HL and use lots of Int gems/enchants, or Spam FoL and use lots of spell power gems/enchants (note both specs would use the other heal sometimes).

Note that having a good balance in your spell usage is pretty mandatory.
There is no reason to force yourself to "gear for this spell". It's bull&*!@. Gem for Intellect and know that your FoL is still strong enough.

Haste isnt going to heal much faster when you have zero mana

The only spirit he has is from items that coincidentally had it, and they were probably still an upgrade over what he had. He's not trying to stack spirit. He's appropriately stacking int.

Gearing for HL is the best idea (no other healer class can put up the hps of HL), however there have been quite a few FoL spammers that are successful with Heroic Anub. FoL is really weak without lots of spell power.

FoL is not weak without "lots of spell power". It's finely tuned, and perfectly capable of being "spammed" if you're "geared to HL". I cast FoL 138 times in that kill. I cast HL 71 times. According to that, I spent more time casting FoL than I did HL. I geared for "HL spam". I'll still go OOM working on that scale. I'd spam FoL until I knew either tank was going to take a string of hits that would hurt. If this happened too fast for me, I chased a FoL with a HS. By then, I was ready to spam HL until that burst cycle was done. FoL is perfect filler for stretches you know nothing terrible will gib a tank, while you can't just "stop casting" because if any damage occurs, it's your job to handle it.
I refuse to tie myself to this "standard approach to healing". It's bull&*!@. It's not truly effective. What's effective is what you can use to actually counter the damage you see. I fill the BURST lull BURST cycle with heals that will do the job, not just "sometimes cast FoL
(But only on a whim because I could have used HL instead!)
". It's bull$%^&!
