Can anyone offer more insight on how Blizzard will determine the difference between
new
players and
veteran
players in Shadowlands. More specifically,
how they'll determine the difference
, as it applies to the old starting zones and the new single one. Are you gonna be required to have a max level character or just be a previous player?

If I recall correctly, they said you need to have gone through the whole thing at least once. That will probably mean you're max level, but not necessary.

I currently have only the basic subscription service and
no
DLCs. I have a couple level 110 characters and was curious if that would be enough to qualify as a veteran player. I'm just curious if I should purchase BFA and level to 120 or If I can wait until Shadowlands drops and save the money. I like the original starting areas and just hate to lose use of them for leveling new toons.

The patch notes for 9.0.1 say
Players who have already experienced Battle for Azeroth and reached level 50 on at least one character can now choose to level any subsequent characters in a different expansion

I can't find any specifics on what "experienced Battle for Azeroth" means. Hopefully you'll just need to get one character to 50. On the other hand it could mean you need to do all the story achievements. I really wish they were more clear about this.
As for buying BFA right now, don't bother.
On October 13
it will be added to the subscription and will no longer require a separate purchase.
