So I'm gonna be buying(or making) a new computer within the next 2 months and I've been browsing the alienwares... they seem rather expensive. I haven't done the number crunching yet, but it at first glance I'm guessing those computers are double price just because they have fancy cases/lights.
Is it a complete waste of money to buy prebuilt computers?

Depends on the computer. Alienware? Complete waste of money, you can build a much better computer for the same price. Find someone who knows how to build computers, discuss your price range, and what you can do for that price.

It really depends on the system and the hardware. In some cases it's less expensive to buy a Dell or Cyberpower machine other times it's not. Figure out your budget and then look at both options to determine which gives you the most for your money. There are plenty of buying guides online at all price points.

I'd buy one off of the internet. Got mine from Newegg. CyberPowerPC gave me one for 700 bucks that would have cost 1200 from Alienware, same hardware.
