Traveller's Tundra Mammoth on my main. Finally caved and bought it for the leveling 80->85.
I don't regret the 50k+ i've spent on BoE epics for alts who I barely ended up raiding with after that - I just regard that sorta thing as par for the course when it comes to gearing so you can do stuff (better).
But I do think of mounts as pointless amusements, and to spend ~16k on a mount I didn't even like the look of, primarily to get vendors who turned out to be totally pointless & which I barely ever use... that I'd like to forget (and get refunded! lol).
Whenever I actually want to vendor stuff, I'm halfway through an instance and can't even mount the damn thing anyway and there're repair guys absolutely everywhere now.

Not sure..So I will say two things!
1. Spent 2,000 gold on the fortune cards.
Got 10 gold at best.
2. Gave a good and close friend 4,000 gold so he could level engineering to 1-475 (wotlk), deal being he made me a mechanochopper.
He quit WoW two days later.

I spend 1k gold on a twink.
And now i'm going to have to delete it.. Since i´m planning on getting all classes to 85.
The things I would do for a extra character slot.
Deleting 19 hours of work and 1k gold is going to hurt.

I bought a Firelands leatherworking recipe for a guildie to learn and make for me. After I spent 15,000 gold on it, I realised it needed drops from the Firelands raid which we weren't doing yet.
I managed to sell it for about a 4000 gold loss.

I spent 800g on the noise machine for my lock at lvl 56. Not realizing it required engineering at all I rushed to the mailbox to get this and equip my hot new trinket. The worst part is someone massproduced them after I bought the only one on the ah and they were selling for 150g.

When I was leveling my first character, and I had no idea what I was doing, I bought crusader for my hunter's melee weapon. (Back when we had melee weapons AND bows- I wasn't THAT bad a hunter- lol). That was a couple of hundred gold of uselessness.

Mostly enchants and gems, only for them to get replaced quickly...

One of the dumbest wastes of gold I've done was when I was just starting the game, my first character at max level was a Death Knight, and at the time I didn't knew that my Runeforges were the best enchants I could hope for. So......... yeah =( I bought a top of the line enchant for my weapon (which wasn't even that good, it was a quest blue and I thought it was the best I could have)
I replaced the enchant a few days later when a guildie corrected me, and then replaced the weapon shortly after that when I won a better one in a dungeon.

Not sure this classes as stupid just the RNG Gods screwing me over again :)
Back in Wrath I really wanted a 3 seater mammoth mount, We ran VoA religiously every week and the roll never favoured me for the
Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth
although I did win the smaller
Reins of the Black War Mammoth
So of course I decided to bite the bullet and buy
Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth
Yes but you get repairs and vendors you say.. well true, but my main was an engineer and had Jeeves and Scrapbots, so I really didn't need or want those perks.
The very next day the VoA reset, and of course the mammoth dropped, I roll 99 and win it.

The Sons of Hodir have one that's the 3-seater for only 2500 gold too.

I though it was 10k or something like that, and I didn't have the rep to buy it from them at that point. (Hated rep grinding)

Gave 2500g to a stranger.
You know the stupid part? I actually expected she'd give the money back at some point.
Wouldn't call it stupid, naive perhaps to expect an return.
I once gave 5k gold to an investment banker. I have ofc not seen a dime of the money or any return on the cash I handed over.
I have also given 5k gold once to a stranger as a loan for a mount. Not seen any money aswell.
I do not kick myself for doing this, I made the cash back fast enough. I do it sometimes to test if a person is greedy or honest. I did lend once 200g to an alliance character, and he gave me the cash on his horde character to a character i made on that side. So there is people who can act honest in this game. I have only lended cash to stranger 5-7 times during all of wow from vanilla to now so it is not like I give out money like a santa clause:)
Most dumb thing i spend cash on gotta be then I farmed shen'dralar rep and miss calculate some so i ended up with 10 tomes who cost around 200-300 gold each then the Rep vanished. I did get the feat, but it felt lousy to end up with 10 tomes worth of nothing after the patch hit.

Never understood this lending of huge amounts of gold. Mostly because I don't really understand this mindset people have that others should just
give
them huge sums of gold. It's kind of really rude. Like, I get the attitude of "any donation you can give me will help," but "give me an exorbitant sum so I can have luxuries" is beyond me, and I see it in game all the time. Then turns out there are people who actually
give
those huge amounts (are you really surprised you never saw any of it back?)
But back on topic, I once made a really dumb purchase. I was at the black market AH and saw some piece of gear that for some reason I thought was at the ilvl I wanted - no idea what malfunction my brain was having that made me think that, as it was clearly stated it was far below my ilvl. Like a level 80 item, that wasn't even good for transmog - and I actually spent like 10k on it! It's sort of embarrassing to even admit this now, haha!
