Leveling with Subtlety was probably the best thing I've done as a rogue. Subtlety is not just a 70 pvp spec. You're a tard if you think so. By the time you get shadowstep, you'll have max ambushes, you run in shadowstep, ambush, 3 more hits, mob is dead, stealth, shadowstep, wash, rinse, repeat. Easiest thing in the world. Combat isn't good for leveling imo.

I level using subtlety too. Tried swords and while I was killing things fast, it was not a whole lot of fun and didn't feel very rogueish to me.
I am currently level 32, with this
build
and doing fine.
I will put next points into initiative and just keep putting points into subtlety until shadowstep or I find that I am struggling badly.
I put points into MoD only when I see nothing better to use them on, I figure they must help because I hardly ever get busted out of stealth.
I am on a pvp server and it is nice to be able to choose when to fight. vanish, prep and improved ambush see me winning almost every fight I have had so far.

I leveled at Sub for a bit. Yeah, its kind of fun, but it doesn't have the survivability of Combat.
I went combat out of curiosity and loved it so much better. Later on, you'll have to start fighting mulitple mobs and combat just does it so much sweeter. Besides, whats better than Adrenaline Rush and Blade Fury? NOTHING! Haha.
I went back to Sub for a bit in the early 60s....couldn't stand it. I was killing things so much slower than in Combat spec. Sub purley relies of an opening, once you are out of stealth...your numbers are low and kind of unrealiable.
Combat offeres a lot more for damage. and endurance fighting. If you DO go combat, go swords, not daggers or maces. Combat Daggers is really only good for endgame PvE, while Maces is for PvP.

combat has more survivability how? Prep = instant cool down reduction, not to mention the reduced cooldown on vanish. Subtlety = ultimate survivability for rogues.

While leveling through 60's on my rogue, I was subtlety to start with, and I decided to try combat for a level, I couldn't play for more than 2 hours with that build. I was stopping to eat/bandage every 2 mobs, as opposed to Subtlety where I was stopping every 5-7 mobs. Maybe it was just the way I played my rogue, I don't know. Plus, when leveling, you don't rely on cooldowns, you only use them when you need to. I only used Prep when I needed it, which wasn't very often if you're playing right...

Combat has more survivability because you can kill more mobs faster without a dependency on cooldowns or stopping to rest as much. Prep makes you godly every 10 minutes, after that you are toast.
I have to disagree with this. Prep isn't the main ability of a sub build so it does not dictate the effectiveness as you have illustrated. Sub being effective is more a matter of itemization and some understanding than it is being reliant on some sort of inferior ability. I played combat swords until level 48 when I had about 700ap, 16 crit and 2.3k health. This change wasn't the huge down turn some believe it to be. Being combat swords does not some how allow you to maintain superior damage while not using cooldowns. In fact combat's damage only excels with gratuitous use of Blade Flurry and Adrenaline Rush. This open-throttle ability along with the frontal avoidance is what makes combat swords more attractive as it requires less micro-managing for it to be sufficient. Now this character is level 62 and with proper gear choices I have managed solid performance with my build and don't feel I suffer in PvE or PvP.
Here is my armory link so you can see the sort of gear/spec I'm using.

not sure what you are implying but take a look that the weapon has a fair bit of attack power for the level and also look at the speed. These are things you want in a MH for hemo. That mace > sword from ramparts.
