Leveling motivation issues

I found that the one thing that really puts me off leveling is annoying downtime. I hate watching my char to sit on the ground drinking for 20 seconds every few mobs. It's just so annoying and it kills all the fun for me.
The solution for this problem was to chose a Druid and a Shaman as my main characters. The Druid has no downtime from lvl 10 on (kill stuff as bear and later as cat and then enjoy the full mana whenever you want to heal, feral specced), the Shaman has no downtime from lvl 20 on (water shield provides basically unlimited mana so there is always enough to spam attack skills and heal, enhance specced).
There may be other classes that manage to get the same no-downtime-leveling experience (I heard good things about Paladins and Hunters) but Mages are sadly not one of them :( I also don't really enjoy my Mage so far.
you bring up a couple really good points.. When I was levelling my mage, I got discouraged a couple times simply because of all the downtime. there's a lot of it... although, looking back, it is lessened some by the abilities to create your own food/water and the ability to port yourself from city to city without having to run/boat/taxi all the time. but as you're grinding out your quests, yeah the downtime is quite extreme at times.

Well frost is good and all but its no where near as fun as fire. People seem to forget that fire mages CAN use frostbolt and frost nova. At your level (if you were fire) a good leveling rotation would be something like this :
Frostbolt>pyroblast>scorchx2>frost nova (if they are close)>blink (if last part of rotation applies)>fireball>fireblast.
Most things will die before that rotation is finished. My point is (whether people get it or not) is that you shouldn't need motivation to keep leveling your character as the spec you have chosen (frost), you should be having fun with your class so that you don't really need a motivation.

If all else fails, turn on Winamp, put your favorite music on blast, and just quest away.
Before you know it a couple hours have passed and you're about to level. As I was levelling, breaking the mundane process with a couple days of repeated visits to the Battlegrounds was a good way to take a break since I'm a total PVP nut. Also, watching PVP videos of some amazing players is another good source of inspiration (Man, I'm totally gonna be the next Vurtne! etc.)

Yes, little control over mobs and crap efficiency is fun.
Don't you tell me what's "fun".
Well if you had read the rest of my post you would know that you CAN have control over mobs as fire. I have to hand the efficiency to frost, but frosts killing is slower so they just about even them out. When I say 'frost is no where near as fun as fire' I am talking about personal preference.
And I think we all know by know that the mage forums are frost biased. I am trying to expand this players play style so that they can enjoy more aspects of the game.

I read it. It's one-sided. And you tell me what's fun. You can't.
For the sake of argument, Fire's damage edge is overrated.
In pure grinding, a Frost player with half a brain will kill faster if they learn how to AoE, and be able to match Fire easily if they keep using their various cooldowns (both of which are Frost-specific traits) and Shatter.
All the while not exchanging damage for control, as Shatter compensates (hell, rewards) you for time and talents lost snaring, while Fire-specific control is tied to what are also its damage tools or requires off-school casting.
For leveling I agree frost is a lot easier and a lot more efficient. The point to my original post was the fact that he asked for whats motivating about playing a mage and personally, when I am not sure if I want to carry on playing a class, I just see how much damage I CAN do. This may seem confusing but when leveling as a spec which has not got as high damage as another spec, its always nice to remind yourself that you could be hitting so much harder IF you wanted to. Thats what I find fun about fire, the fact that there is so much power in most of your spells, but i would still choose frost for leveling, because fire drinks your mana.
I'm sorry if I was unclear in any of my previous posts.
