for me i simply listen to my ipod while playing. lately though ive been using a...mini form of ihome i guess, basically just a stereo that i plug my ipod in and listen though that and so my music is playing completely idependent of my computer
I do the same- better sound from my stereo and it keeps my computer running fast with only WoW open. As helps if I want to listen to in game sounds just turn up the computer a bit.

The in-game iTunes control is Mac only. There are no addons allowing you to control iTunes from within WoW, and I don't see any logical way to assign keybinds to normal functions such as 'Play' and 'Pause' as WinAmp has set up by default.
As such, you are limited to a few options. The obvious option presented would be to use a different media player, though that may not be convenient, especially if your library is configured for use with iTunes. You may want to consider purchasing a media keyboard (this is how I control iTunes while in fullscreened applications), which would allow you easy control of your media player of choice via keyboard buttons. I'm using a
Razer Lycosa
for that, though there are many, much cheaper options (you can find well-made, name-brand keyboards with media controls on sites like NewEgg for like $20.)
Alternately, if you are using iTunes and have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can consider downloading the
Remote
application - though less convenient, it's still an option.
