Is survival really better than MM with the changes to LnL?

As I see it, right now the only difficulty with MM is that it's mana thirty. In an infinite mana situation, I believe MM would pull ahead of SV. The next patch already has the Master Marksman change so I believe that with higher end gear, MM will pull ahead of SV, but with lower end gear, SV will still rein supreme.

I run 10-man stuff almost exclusively because my guild is not big enough for anything bigger and I can't make time to do raiding with 25-man guilds. However, when I do get into raids (VoA or OS) that are for 25 people, I almost always find that I am in the top 5 dps, and usually one of the top 1 or 2 hunters. I am MM, and I laugh every single time that I out dps "better" specced SV hunters with better gear. Granted, maybe I'm a better player, maybe they are just being lazy, but I still laugh. But, my only point is that I can only get the 10 man gear and I perform wonderfully as MM with it.
(To avoid lashback, I don't think I have the best spec, nor do I think I am the best hunter in the world. Far from it. I just find it amusing when I can out dps better geared toons.)

With the changes to master marksman, MM will probably come ahead of Surv as far as DPS goes, but survival is still going to be a raid-needed spec as well, for the replenishment buff that it brings. But being able to bring along a surv and a MM hunter, instead of 2 surv will be nice, since Trueshot aura and the improved hunters mark will benefit both.

There are currently 5 classes that bring
Replenishment
Shadow Priest
Frost Mage
Destruction Warlock
Survival Hunter
Retribution Hunter
Saying that SV Hunters will still be needed just for replenish effect is not true, theres 4 other classes that can provide the effect and also bring other buffs to the raid.

Don't you just hate fighting those Ret Huntars in the arena ;)
Anyways, onto a legit post. I like your spec, but I think a lot depends on what type of raiding you're going to do.
For 10-man, where there usually aren't near as many buffs to go around, the mana issues can really hurt so I like to not only spec into
Rapid Recuperation
, but I take a Cunning Pet with me for
Roar of Recovery
.
In 25-mans though, Mana isn't near as much of an issue, so skipping out on
Recuperation
hopefully wont be too problematic. I'm also a big fan of the
Wild Quiver
talent, so I go for max ranks it it out of preference.
Here's my standard MM raiding build -

Wolf

All of the ArPen-heavy gear in Ulduar benefits MM a good bit more than SV, so MM gets increasingly better in comparison to SV as you get more Ulduar upgrades.
Even without the incoming changes to help MM's mana efficiency, it was believed that at a certain gear level (close to BiS) MM would overtake SV as top DPS. The planned change to Master Marksman will likely just make that happen sooner and at a lower gear level.

In my gear right now, Emblem Necklace, Belt & MoT, Naxx 25 Bracers & Pants and the rest heroic drops I hang right there with equally geared (and slightly overgeared) SV Hunters at 3.8K in 25 mans. Granted, I'm nowhere near Ulduar status on my hunter yet, but it's interesting to see where I stand against SV. The only problem, once again, is even with replenishment filling up my mana i fizzle out at around 35%, I pop AotV and Rapid Fire at around 50% on Patchwerk, thats where my dps really hurts.

People may think I'm crazy, but I've started taking with me a Cunning pet - I personally use a Dragonhawk - for 10-man where I really have mana issues. Roar of Recovery is 30% of your mana back every 3 minutes. Pop it as soon as you hit the 70% mana mark and on most bosses the cooldown will be up in time to pop it again before the die. That is of course depending upon your groups DPS.
Also, the DPS difference between my Dragonhawk and my standard wolf / raptor isn't huge, so I dont mind taking the hit, especially if I dont have to go into Aspect of the Viper.

Yeah, I always hope that we end up with 3 pallies in our 10-man Ulduar. Having BoK, BoM, BoW, and JoW all up at the same time is money.
Things can get pretty rough as you lose those pally buffs though.

Yeah, just ran VoA 10 with a Holy Pally w/JoL and a Ret Pally w/JoW. Ret Pally pulls aggro, dies, no other class providing replenishment and no JoW on Emalon...I went OOM quick.
