Inside Karazhan crypts...
Return to board index

Ok, as seen in videos. theres a way into the crypts thats behind Karazhan. I did my exploring and im amazed at the scenery and the spooky eviorment and now i want to know why they would block off such a amazing area? I think it might be a place in Cataclysm where we can explore it for a rare item. but for now its a Blocked off area. What do you people think its for? Have you been in there?

There are a lot of half-finished places or places that were meant to be something, but were never put in the game. The Hyjal portal in southern Winterspring, the portal at the Slaughterhouse in Stratholme are two that I can think of off the top of my head.
Blizz probably intended for the Karazhan crypts to be a part of the entire Karazhan raid, but since it's already huge, they shaved it down a little and decided to add it in later, which they haven't yet. Most likely, they never will.

I believe that the portal in Stratholme was actually for the old Naxx raid way back in the day, before they implemented the platform that teleported you inside :) But yeah like decrepitbeef said, a lot of stuff is in the game that was intended for use but was taken out for whatever reason (Old Ironforge, Ironforge Airport, etc.) You can also see the crypts from inside Kara when you fight Nightbane I believe ;)

Karazhan Crypts is probably the second-to-best exploration I've done, trailing closely behind the hardest exploration there is. If anyone explores, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Also, inb4 "exploration = exploitation" QQ from those who can't figure anything out.
Edit: I couldn't hear the heartbeat in the background the last time I ventured down there (last weekend). Was it removed?

I remember hearing heartbeats, its somewhat faint to hear, but i had my Headset on so i could hear it. I still find it very disturbing especially the Upside down Sinners. just going there just creaps the hell out of me

I found the names of the zones really disturbing also.
Pauper's Walk
Tome of the Unrepentant (could be a misspelling of Tomb, IDK)
The Upside-down Sinners
The Slough of Despair
The Pit of Criminals
The Upside-down Sinners is the most intriguing area. The hooks are definitely reminiscent of the Apothecary in Undercity but instead of having hooked on abomination parts, are floating and hanging corpses. All of them are upside down and some are tied at the head or feet. Those are the same corpses you see toward the path to Scarlet Monastery.
The freakiest thing for me was getting stuck on the Pauper's Walk. I couldn't find my way out and was backtracking to find where I came in.

In southern Uldum down by the water and the AQ raid boarder is a massive empty cave. Just follow the coast until you see a tree.

I've been in the Crypts back when it was possible to get in by being feared inside in a duel. I've taken lots of screens and can post them if there's a place for that. There weren't rooms with torture devices, other than the Upside-Down Sinners room, but there were little rooms you could go inside where if I recall there wasn't really anything in there, and indeed they appeared unfinished as the doors were labeled something like "doodad," etc. It was pretty creepy!
Speaking of unfinished places, back in the original WoW I'd also gone into Caverns of Time before it was finished, you could get in by dying outside the door and resurrecting inside, I have screens of that too if anyone wants to see what a very bad video card is like! Needless to say, though, that place was clearly intended to be in the game, unlike the Crypts.
There also were islands south of Tanaris before Cataclysm, and a small tauren village on the south part of Kalimdor.

That used to be my hiding spot back in the day.

The secret Kara area would be even better if the door locked as you entered and your hearthstone became unuseable. In essence, every toon that ever entered was never heard from again and all the upside down sinners had player names attached to them. lol
That sounds like a way of making a World of Warcraft ingame version of Slender...

I don't think there's an exorcist dead or alive that would be able to take on this topic. It just won't die.
I do miss the old days of exploration. It's nowhere near what it was pre-Cata. Occasionally something good pops up, and Karazhan Crypts is still doable, albeit you need to use different tactics (again).

That is just way too scary a notion!O.o
Th place is awesome though; I visited recently, after a whole lot of trying and a lot of curiosity!;) Aside from the heartbeat, I would swear I heard footsteps not my own char's as I went down Pauper's Walk!
There is supposed to be a dark 'mirror' image of Karazhan under the tower, though, if I recall correctly; wonder if the crypts can be/become that!It would be so immensely cool!

Ok so I've been here before and I can definitely say it's scary. It was late at night and I was about to go to sleep when I was watching videos on it. I decided to go myself, and seriously it's creepy. I think the part that is the scariest is the 'Upside-Down Sinners' as a lot of people have stated before. However I don't know if you can go as of patch 5.4, though I could be wrong.
