Haste beyond 150 is useless for a shield-spamming raid-healing disc priest. With
Borrowed Time
up (and a full set of raid buffs) your GCD will floor-out at 1 second. A shield-spammer will be constantly haste-capped at this level.
For a tank healer, however, haste has no limit. In my tank gear I have over 430 haste from gear. Because you're not always affected by BT's haste buff, every point of haste gets used, and used well. My Greater Heals (horror!) are 2 second cast.
If you're aiming to be a tank healer, get as much haste and (even more important) crit as you can. No limits.
If you're raid healing, aim for ZERO crit and ZERO haste. You won't be able to get that low, but if you try, you'll be good. The only thing you'll want in this role is spell power and intellect.
I rattled on about this recently:
tank
&
raid
heals, the full long-winded, too-long-you'll-never-read-it story.
(Seneca: you linked to some calcs for spriests!)

Thankyou paolo for the advice and the link. Really really good info and so well explained. I urge anyone with disc priest questions to check it out.

Also I have heard the haste cap is 7% and the crit cap is 30%...... when you've hit both of those, then what? (stack spell power gems I assume but then you lose the bonus to spell power because it's not a red socket)
There is no haste cap. You're capped when you've got 100% haste and all your spells are instant-cast.
There is no crit cap. You're capped when you've got 100% crit and you crit 100% of the time.
Also, socket bonuses aren't worth going for, unless they're 7-9 SP. You don't *NEED* to get EVERY socket bonus. IE, if the socket bonus is 5SP with two Blue sockets, you'd get much more SP with two 23SP gems, rather than two 12SP/10Spr gems.

oK so my guild has said they want me to gear for raid healing. On the above advice i should'nt be aiming for crit or haste. Thing is all the healing gear available has either Crit or Haste as a passive stat. Which one do i choose?....Im thinking it should be Crit as i will get a lot of benefit from borrowed time but i need to be certain

They want you raid healing as Discipline? I find that odd...
Nevertheless, if you're basically going to be shield-spamming, anything more than 5% haste will be a waste as you will constantly be under the effect of Borrowed Time. 5% haste would bring your GCD on shield-spamming down to the 1 second cap. Any more haste that this would be wasteful. Also, shields can't crit, so it should also take a back seat. Stack spellpower (and maybe a little bit of intellect) if you're stuck in the role of shield-spamming the raid.

Even though the main role of disc is supporting the other healers
I stopped reading there.

I don't see the relation between crit and Borrowed Time, I'll assume you meant Divine Aegis.
I beleive he means stack crit since BT will give him all the haste he will need for raid heals.
ye thats what i meant. Im stil not 100% sure on the subject though. I'm about to get some nice crafted gear and I still cant decide wether to get the crit or haste version (Saviors slippers or Spellslingers slippers)
On the comments page for these items people say that getting 11% haste is now a priority before stacking crit. Is this true?

11% haste is an incorrect number. Like a rumor that won't die, it will probably haunt us until Cataclysm.
Again, for raid healing, neither crit nor haste will help you very much. The crafted gear is good, of course. But for you, Savior's is probably better because it has 2 gem slots, which will give you the flexibility to boost spell power or intellect.
Also, if you do have a choice between crit and haste, crit will be better. Most of your spells will benefit from it (flash, pom, poh... everything except renew and shield). For shield-spamming raid healers,
none
of your spells will benefit from haste beyond the 150 soft cap. (See links above for details.)
