How important is Vent in arena?
On a scale of 1 to 10?
OVER 9000!
Very Important, you need to communicate quickly and efficiently with teammates. Typing just won't cut it. The longer you spend typing, the longer you aren't doing anything useful.
Download it. Use it. Love it.

In arena you should lag more than in BGs, keep that in mind, i also lag alot in WG/Isle/Strand and in arena i dont lag at all with ventrillo up

Just asking. Simple reason is that I'm slowly gaining an interest in PVP but there's no way my computer's gonna support voice chat and WOW at the same time (I already lag nastily in BGs with all settings at the lowest possible except one notch of draw distance). I've already found out by experience that I can do okay in BGs, even in PVE gear and spec--though I know that's simply untrue in arenas. Have an 80 DK with some gear and an 80 mage with basically no gear--I'll get practice by grinding out the honor needed for that.
Get a better computer.
It is like complaining your cant do deep scuba diving because you only have a snorkel.

@OP: Have you tried vent+wow yet? You said there's no way your comp can support both but are you guessing or have you tried? Also, lag tends to be your internet connection, not necessarily your computer though there are some things there as well that affect it. One thing you can try (and should imo) is
Leatrix Latency Fix
. I didn't notice any difference for a few days but eventually it dropped from ~200ms to an average of ~80ms. Not bad for an install and forget it mod.
Also it should go without saying that the only things you should be running during arena matches is wow and vent, meaning shut everything else down. I know it's nice to be able to scan armory and see why you just got steamrolled, or have Pandora streaming while playing, but if your comp can't handle it make the sacrifice.

Dont need a high end computer. But when you cant run WoW + vent, your computer is seriously in need of an upgrade.

Regardless, not everyone can just run out and buy a new computer. I'm sure if money was no issue to the OP then he would have already done so.

If your running in windowed mode you will experience far lower framerates than if you are running in full-screen mode.

Depends on which combo you play.. if u for example play cleavelol you wont need communication that much. Just type something like "train healer until he dies"
But if u play a combo which reqquires a little more CC and switching vent is like 80 % of ur victories. hands down!

Ack, wrong kind of lag. Fail language is fail.
On average I'm like 125ish ms latency, it's my framerates that are low (I've seen SLDT measure zero FPS, and in a recent AV I timed that number to be more like 0.2 and then I got DC'd--granted, that's a lot more to process than arena, but it's at absolute-minimum settings) And yes, I know the difference. My bad.
And yeah, I don't have the resources to get a new comp, but if I saved I could probably get at least a couple upgrades to my existing one.
I might still try that latency fix anyway though.
Maybe you should post your computer specs so we can at least know what we're dealing with here? I have a high doubt you ACTUALLY lag on this game ,seeing as my computer was like 200-300$ and could still run this game well.

I dont even think vent is that useful, as you need to press a button to talk, right? I prefer skype.
It can also pick up your voice when you speak, although PTT (push to talk) is better so your teammates can't hear the things you don't want them to hear...

Hmm, alright. But make sure skype ain't on when you're not arena'ing, simple as that. Not to mention that skype is very good quality.
edit: and free!
Vent is free too (as long as you're not renting a vent server) but there are more gamers who use Vent than Skype. So I suggest you download both and use whatever programme the other player(s) is(are) using.

Yeah, I suppose that's the best idea.
Completely offtopic, but I'm in your signature. Whee.

Vent utility is debatable
but ask yourself these questions.
Why would you type something you can talk just say it?
Why would you not use something that will improve your performance?
_
but Vent sometimes can be ennoying ;P
I prefer Skype because you don't have to push the button to talk and sometimes there's not enough time to press the vent button (in my case F1) and cast a Heal or Fear.

Although internet dose effect your lag if you have cable your internet should be fine, I would say its the other way around. Your computer is large factor in how much lag you get. If your processor cant handle all the info coming in or your video card cant handle all the spells and movement your going to get lag, whether you have good internet or not.
A good example of this is my brother and his computer. His video card recently went out and now he is afraid to log out in Dalaran. The fact is his onboard video card and processor just is not good enough for Dalaran. When he had his video card in he could go through Dalaran just fine.
Basically if you want to play wow comfortably you have to get a better computer. If you cant afford it thats too bad but I cant afford a Ferrari so guess what, I aint zipping around @ 200mph. My car simply can not do that, just like your computer cant play wow as good as a better one.
