I've heard someone talking about a Kara run which took 8 hours, but I don't have any specifics...

Me neither, still need two more levels :D *bursting with excitement*
Unfortunately I need to study right now and I can't continue to WoW until February! The last thing I did was testing my Flight Form lol :p

It all depends on the experience of the raiding guild, the dedication of it's members and the schedule laid out for them for the week.
Karazhan could take 3 days to clear for one guild, or another could clear it one day.
SSC could take one day for a guild to clear, while another would spend 3 days clearing one boss.
As for the fun factor... I don't think the majority of WoW players are in it for the raiding.

Gruul and Mag are actually fairly short for a group that has done it a time or two. If you one-shot everything I'd say 1 - 1.5 hours...again...a well geared group that knows their jobs and what to expect.
Kara can be cleared in under or right at 3 hours with an experienced crew. Our guild now has 2 teams that race....it pretty much comes down to who wipes first - and at this point it's not on the bosses, but someone farting around or not paying attention and accidently aggroing a pack of mobs.....healers falling offline in the in the middle of something................or the dreaded, guild slaying....chess event.
I've yet to do SSC/ They Eye yet ....but I assure you the fun factor will come down to the guild you're in. If the leader(s) is a czar with the personality of evaporated mild powder --- you might have a 'smooth' run....that is zero fun. Go the opposite direction and you might have a jolly ole time.....on all 6 attempts on the first boss encounter.

Beating the Kael'thas encounter is worth every single trash pull up to that moment.

Gruul is my favorite. It literally takes no time to get to the bosses, and the fights are fun and the drops are worth it. The instance is small, and it's a 25 man which is exciting.
I've ran Kara about a billion or so times and to be honest... I'm sick and tired of it. It's fun at first. Lots to look at, places to explore and a very diversed place.
The Eye sucks. You spend 98% of time on useless trash that takes hours, even for quick raids, to clear to bosses. Sure the bosses are fun, and the drops are too... but geez... It becomes tedious after the first run through all that trash.
