How do I do shadow dps over 3k

Maxdps shows I should be able to do 3300 dps, and everyone in my raid group does 3-5 k. in Ulduar. I want my dps (for duel spec) to be comparable so I could switch to dps if/when needed. I have a good shadow set, with gear from heroic naxx, maly, and OS.
Versus the target dummy I can barely pull 2800. I'm not raid buffed, although I am using food, flask, and all self-buffs. I use Recount to track dps.
Spell power: 2277 (unbuffed)
Hit: 362 (13.8%, or 16.8% after misery)
Crit: 17.06%
Haste: 148
Spirit: 688
My spell priority is to keep DoTs up and use Mind Blast and SW:Death whenever available. Mind Flays as filler. I open with VT - MB - MF (all 3 ticks) to stack debuff. I use a macro to make sure I don't clip MF.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

In what kind of raid do you raid? You can get 8% crit 3% haste, and 280 spellpower with only a moonkin and an elemental shammy already. Which aren't rare in 25 man raids, but maybe they are in 10 man.
Also maxdps doesn't seem to be correct at some points(especially with my enhancement shammy), although it's minor use it more as a guideline then something you should absolute get.
Also I'm not a shadowpriest, but Mind Flay as filler and SWD in a normal rotation seems wrong. I heard most priest barely touch SWD until they get a lot haste.

SWD is a DPS killer but should still be used situationally on Run-n-Gun fights like Heigan. Otherwise it's Refresh DOT's, Mind BLAST on every CD, and MF all the way. More than 3 mobs use Mind SEAR instead.
You should also notice a significant jump in your DPS if you're in a Raid. Being Buffed and having all the fun things around like Boomkins, Elemental Shammies, and Mages will throw your DPS up an enormous amount.
On my mage single target solo vs in a raid single target solo, I can see a jump of almost 1500 DPS just from raid buffs. Target dummies aren't going to show you your REAL results.
As well, in a fight like Heroic Sarth, you should top the meter just using mind Sear! Tons of Adds FTW!

Oh, about Unclipped Mind Flays: I don't know if this is anything to go by, but it's something I decided to take on-board: Simcraft says that clipping Mind Flay is still useful, but only for the purposes of refreshing Vampiric Touch after the second tick. Therefore, my personal use of that information is this: If my VT will drop from the target between 1.1 and 1.5 seconds -- so 0.2 seconds either way (My VT cast time is 1.3 seconds) -- as the second tick of MF lands, then I will clip it, because I will gain a little time, to my mind. If it's longer than that, then it's better in my mind to let MF run for the third tick and lose whatever downtime I get as a result. That's a bit in-depth and hard to explain, but if you understand it and want to take it on-board, then great! If not, then you wouldn't be losing much DPS by sticking to the philosophy of keeping MF unclipped.
I was under the impression that with the haste we have readily available it is EASY to never have to clip our mind flay spells and cause any detriment to our DPS. I never clip my MF anymore (when I'm shadow).

incredibly helpful valandilv. i can't wait to get home and try your suggestions
...Your spellpower seems pretty high ("Unbuffed" with or without inner fire?), and your hit rating is
too
high -- you only need 11% from gear, because 17% is the cap and you get +3% from Shadow Focus and +3% from Misery.
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dalvengyr&n=Ixidoria
added to original post too
thank you, i had forgotten about shadow focus. i have a few really good pieces i want to wear, but didn't want to fall below hit cap. *excited*
...It is generally accepted that Improved Shadowform is more useful than Inner Focus, so take the points from SA and IF and put them into that one -- 100% pushback reduction with Concentration Aura is
vital
, since a pushback of even 0.1 seconds makes that third tick of Mind Flay non-existent; so it only takes two pushbacks on Mind Flay before the benefit of a slightly-higher crit chance with Mind Blast is outweighed by the DPS & DPM losses of those missing mind flay ticks.
i couldn't figure out why so many standard builds used imp shadowform. this explains it.
imp inner focus gives me more spell power. pls confirm, i'm giving up spellpower to pushback resistance? could i go with just 1 pt if i have paladin in raid with imp concentration aura?
A good rule of thumb with target dummies is this: Whatever you can do with no raid buffs is roughly
half
what you can do on Patchwerk 25-man where you have a full complement of spellpower buffs (An Elemental Shaman, a Mage or Warlock, a Boomkin, and an Unholy Death Knight, plus Potions of Wild Magic and flasks).
i do only 25man raids, and i had no idea raid buffs would make
that
much improvement! i might PUG some naxx/OS/maly as shadow just to see what i get (saved to ulduar every week, for heals)
thank you for all the tips

Inner Focus =/= Inner Fire

well looking at the crit levels they seems very very low. replace some hit with crit and you should see i a very nice dps increase. but other than that. listen to everyone else and you will break it very, very quickly.

Sugar: Your gear is better than most of the shadow priests here. Primar and I are quite jealous.
Aldones wishes he had that gear as well. In fact, Aldones wishes he could actually enter a raid (give it another 4 months and I'll FINALLY be able to raid) to get that gear.
To go back to your OP, when stacking SW, MF instantly gives 2 pts, but that's it. You made a reference to letting all 3 ticks play out, implying that you wanted 3 pts from it. Granted, this may have changed as my priest is bugged and won't let me log in, Blizz is retarted in thier "solutions."

More terrific replies! thank you everyone for contributing.
I've made some changes to gear/enchants/gems/rotation. Armory appears to have updated:
SP: 1867 *
Hit: 263 (10.03%)
Crit: 19.9%
Haste: 125
Spirit: 613
Using sw:death as GCD filler.
* I'm going to look at this again, because it seams I've lost a lot of spell power. I would have thought losing hit would translate into more spellpower, but I only got ~3% crit from the gear changes.
still pushing 2800 dps. but i used a
Potion of Wild Magic
on one round with target dummy. that put me just over 3000 dps (dps-ing until /oom 1 time).... so that helps me see how having a boomkin near me
the whole fight
would make a substantial change in my raid dps!
As great as a dying curse sounds, I didn't get one out of naxx (all my +hit gear was from the last few weeks before patch, and were items that would otherwise have gotten disenchanted). The limited time I can spend playing, I spend in Ulduar; but maybe some weekend I'll find myself stuck at home and bored so i'll find a naxx pug and get lucky. The same goes for Tier 7 and 7.5 tokens for dps gear.

I have a Shadow question: I feel like I do some decent DPS on a few targets but when it's AoE time I wonder how to handle DoTs. Do you rotate through the group putting up dots THEN Mind Sear? Or do you simply blast out the Mind Sear from the start?
I usually put up all of my DoTs on one target (usually NOT the Focus Target) and then Mind Sear.
How do the Pro Shadow Priests AoE?
I'm with Amg0001. I'll DP the target I'm about to Mind Sear and just spam Sear until all dead... If you spend time Dotting, everything will be dead by the time you start Mind searing.
