Hello guys, well here is my problem, i´ve always liked fire mages, and since wotlk we have some very good stuff, but the arcane tree so did it, in fact they got better :S so thats my question, how could i beat an arcane mage? with all his instant and burst damage, especially with them using: slow, arcane barrage every 3 secs, presence of mind, n all that stuff, could i beat an arcane mage being a fire mage?
Im open to advices! ty so much! =)

I'd say keep living bomb up at all times, use DB/BW whenver he is casting, and counterspell any arcane spells you can. 'Specially poly.
Use mage armor to reduce slow uptime and to increase your resistances and get around 130 spell pen.
Odds are he'll win, anyway.

I think the key to winning as a fire mage is to make sure to spellsteal his fire ward every time it's up, and keeping DoTs rolling. Arcane mages have about as much defense as you do, aside from imp. blink. You need to get ignites and living bomb rolling as much as possible, and you want to land a pyro for the dot at some point eventually. Dragon's Breath/Blastwave as much as possible, and try to only use Iceblock when you have all of your DoTs rolling (taking no damage at all while he slowly ticks away for 10 seconds? yes please).
Well, that's what I'd do as Fire, I never really get to try it out though.

Yeah I dont thinks its fair, blizzard gave arcane mages lots of powerful instants while fire mages are still casting..... plus we dont have all the damage burst that arcane has, so i dont know....
But a appreciate all of the advices n i expecte more, thanks a lot!

Arcane mages have about as much defense as you do, aside from imp. blink.
+140 to
all spell
resistances
and
a 6% reduction to all damage taken
. Which means 6% of the damage you do will be ignored, another 26.25% will be resisted, and around
3.9375% of the damage you do to him will be the amount his spell power will be increased by
.
And let's not forget instant invisibility :)
I have a lot of spell penetration personally, the first one I don't have to worry about. Nothing to do about the 6% damage reduction, but unless they instantly invis out of an iceblock, living bomb will drop them out.
My motto for these things is: If there's a will, there's a way. I don't know WHY everyone is so negative about fire. The truth is, in 1v1, it's pretty solid, but the strategy to win is fairly intense. I can't get too specific confidently about it, but between Fire Blast, Dragon's Breath, Blast Wave, and Flamestrike, you may think Fire's only damage output is fireball spam, but really it's always been about how many instants they can line up back to back.

Finally! "if theres a will, theres a way" i like that, well i think its possible cuz i love fire, i´ve been arcane too, n i know how powerful it can be, but its too easy, you dont have to think that much....just spam the arcane barrage n slow....that and some other spells, arcane, i know its easy, with fire u dont have that much of options....my opinion is u have to know what you´re gonna do, how you´re gonna play, fire i only have problemd beating arcane mages, thats it...
The times i´ve won,
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=64357
has been very usefull, but some other times i dont even make it because of slow, arcane n missile barrage....

The problem with a fire mage has with an Arcane mage is that he has an instant snare, and you have bupkiss. The fact that his instant cast is at 36 yard range, and most of yours is not.
A good Arcane mage will have slow up constantly on you, while trying to stay far away from your instant casts. You will only have one instant spell that can reach him (LB), unless you somehow get lucky with Hot streak.

Fire's a dead spec, right now.
Inferior for PvP, and now PvE, too.
