Im an elem shammy and in my guild im one of two, we both stack SP can normally get 4k easy, and as much as 6k dps. What im asking is: is haste better?
I ask because just yesterday i pugged 25 voa, and this other elem shammy was hitting 6k EASY, and he stacked haste, is haste really better than SP? im so confused.... i thought i knew my class...
if haste is better, plz link the gem/ enchants
me:

You have nearly full 232 Gear and still don't know that you don't have to have a Prismatic gem in a Prismatic slot?
/facepalm again.
And i thought us shammy's were more intelligent than the other classes /sadpanda.
Please, for the sake of all Shammykind, put a 23 SP gem in your waist = )
lol dipple!@#$, the meta requires 2 blue gems, there's a purple in his bracers and the prismatic in his belt to activate it...admitedly it's not the best gem for the socket as strength, agil, and spirit are next to useless for elem
zador, i'd swap the bracer gem and the prismatic in the belt buckle for a 12 sp/5 mp5 royal dreadstone for more sp and mana lifespan
got class in 20 so afraid i haven't bothered weighing other potential blue sockets on your gear for the best allocation of a blue

I wouldn't take this advice because it would break your meta gem, which is worth far more dps. More optimally, you cou/d put a
Runed Cardinal Ruby
in your belt and use a
Glowing Dreadstone
to match the blue socket in your legs (also gaining the +7SP socket bonus).
Or even better yet, you can match a bunch of your yellow sockets/belt slot with
Rigid King's Amber
.

Haste has as much of an affect on Lava Burst as any other instant or 1.5 second cast spell.
That might be true in a vacuum, but I think what MegaVolt was trying to say is that haste does affect 'cooldown' and 'filler' spells differently.
For filler spells, 20% haste would yield a 20% damage increase. For cooldown spells, the 'gained' casting time is 'spent' on casting filler, which has lower dps/dpct than the cooldown spell.
Compared to no haste, 20% haste on Lava Burst gives you a cast time reduction of 0.25 seconds. You can spend these extra 0.25 seconds casting 0.15 Lightning Bolts.
Maybe more simply put, if you had LB giving 1000 DPS and Lava Burst giving 2000 DPS, take a look at the damage gain 20% haste gives you.
At zero haste, you do 2000 lightning bolt damage in 2 secs. At 20% haste, in those same 2 seconds, you do 2000 + 2000 * 0.2 == 2400, an increase of 120%.
At zero haste, you do 3000 lava burst damage in 1.5 seconds. At 20% haste, in those same 1.5 seconds, you do 3000 + 2000 * 0.15 == 3300, for a damage increase of only 110%.

... an increase of X% in what exactly? Overall damage done? Those numbers doesn't give us any useful information, as your overall damage is a result of
combining
the spells. 20% haste would give the same benefit to the two spells independently.

Except it clearly doesn't give the same +20% to both spells. The fake LB sees an increase of 120% (from 2000 to 2400), while the fake LvB sees only an increase of 110% (from 3000 to 3300).

Except, that's not how you apply haste to a single spell, which is the point: 20% haste affects the spells completely the same individually. It doesn't really make sense to argue against what spell is overall affected, as they're all part of the total, which is improved.
Oh well, different people, different ways of thinking. I think I'll just let you have your way and let me have mine - and let's agree that Spell Power is supreme to Haste. :P

As I originally said, I don't disagree with the statement when you look at the two different spells in a vacuum.
However, in practice, haste affects 'filler' and 'cooldown' spells differently. Haste is a time-compressing stat. Spells with cooldowns or damage over time effects just don't compress the same way as normal direct damage, so you don't see the same increase in damage output from haste.

1) Haste does affect the spell GCD. Higher haste will mean a shorter GCD. Perhaps you mean it doesn't affect the cooldown of the shock spell itself, which is true but irrelevant. Edit: also
Glyph of Shocking
is not useful for elemental DPS, period.
2) Haste allows you to cast more spells faster. This means that if your spell hits harder because of a glyph or spellpower or whatever, you will cast more of them in a given period of time. This makes haste scale extremely well provided you can actually get the extra casts off. Also, if you complete your lava burst cast 0.25 seconds faster because of haste, the cooldown will trigger 0.25 seconds earlier and you can actually thus cast more lava bursts in a given window of time.
As gear levels increase haste actually becomes increasingly valuable precisely because of the way it interacts with other bonuses such as spellpower.
