Paladins don't top healing meters. Any fight with a slight bit of raid damage will put a druid/holy priest right at the top.
Im still in some 10 man Naxx gear and Im at or near the top of the charts in 25 Ulduar.

Very true unless you're with a scrub group. Disc priests have some mean heals and are always owning it up it seems. Druids are about equal with paladins if both of them can play their class.
Then again if you are far down on the healing meters then you are either really undergeared or you just aren't healer material. As said before... it's about reflexes. You have to know when they are going to take dmg and have the heal already coming in so it goes off a split second after they get the hit.

Just came out of a pretty smooth Naxx 10 run last night. I did top the charts, though there were only 2 healers for the run. Was ahead of the resto druid by a good 20% throughout the run. Mainly kept the tanks up while spot healing raid members. They were chain pulling, so I had some mana issues from time to time especially if we pulled like 3 packs. Overall was a lot of fun to run 10 Naxx, but it depends on the group.
We mainly 2 man healed it, though we added a 3rd healer for certain fights like Sapp and KT.
