It's personal preference, and if you can't decide, i would say stick with your current guild
better loot usually translates into dedication to raiding, and much more time consumed
i'd rather stay casual and play with my pals, thank you very much

Yea I agree with staying with the friends, but also ask that guild if they could invite you when needed at least to get the experience you know.

I'm torn in the same way. I'm in a decent raiding guild (SSC/TK). And some of my old friends (not RL) on the server want me in thier guild. I love raiding and thier raid times are to early for me.
As much as I like hanging out with them, I really cant. I do whatever I can with them though on my 70 alt.

All these people who say friends over a great guild "the best" on the server suck and only say that becasue they cant get in the guild of there dreams.
=]
You're absolutely right, and you are also the man.
People don't genuinely prefer their friends to killing bosses and such, they just suck.
Again, you are the man. May I touch you?

Whichever option you'll have the most fun doing. Play the game how you enjoy it. If you want to raid with a more progressed guild then go for it, if they're decent friends they'll get over it.

When I was asked to trial for a very progressed guild on my realm, I told them no twice because I was too nervous of leaving my friends behind. I was in a makeshift guild with some friends that was originally formed as a refuge for about 10-12 angry ex-members of my first guild, which then turned to a somewhat unsuccessful joint-merger with another guild raiding Molten Core, and then broke down to being 5-man/PVP casual again. I loved raiding but nobody was really too interested in starting anything up. So eventually, when asked to apply again, I checked with my friends and decided it would be a good idea for me to accept the trial offer. They approved my decision knowing full well that I would still be playing with them when available and it wouldn't come between our friendship or anything. That only happens if you let it.
Even back in AQ40/Naxx while raiding 6-7 nights a week, 6+ hours a night, I was still able to make time for my friends and I would still get on Ventrilo and cut up with them, or help them if they needed quest/item/whatever. And that's probably a fairly hardcore example - but it still worked out. Now that TBC raid content is farm status, I log on for my two raid nights then I'm on to PVP every now and then, or help out a friend with a quest. I do stuff with my guildies outside of raiding every now and then but I know my friends are always there to play when we want (we 4-manned
High Priest Thekal
last night, hehe). As long as you are able to make time for both your friends and your new guild, you'll be fine. One thing I used to always do was try to involve people from my old group of friends in as much as possible, such as getting them into alt BWL/MC runs back in the day or doing 10-man content with guildies, PVPing, etc. It really helps bridge the "gap." As long as you make it clear that you're making the decision to "move on," so to speak, not based on simply "omg i need epikz" and that it is something that interests you in your character development and "WoW future," your friends should understand. Besides, my situation, I know my friends like having a geared healer friend. ;)

In a similiar position to Miyari, even though we got there much later (575th worldwide guild vs 20th). I spend quite a lot of time with old friends which I got before I became part of the hardcore raiding scene on my server (quite a long time ago, around the release of aq40). Before you clear the game however, every raiding day after clearing current farm content will probably be progress raids (no offence, but I looked at your server and the raiding progress is indeed very, very slow, so I doubt any of the guilds on your server will clear the game before WotLK, especially of raiding guilds are only raiding three nights a week). My best advice would be to be honest with both your friends and this guild (that you don't want to feel like a traitor for leaving them, and that you still want to play with them, but that you also want a chance to improve your gear) and perhaps ask if you could raid with the raiding guild a couple of times before deciding.
Good point about involvement, Miyari. I've done that quite a lot as well, mainly bringing friends into Karazhan alt runs - a RL friend of mine with a pretty crapgeared holy paladin picked up the Maiden healing mace and several healing plate items on his first Karazhan run ever. Happy panda. :)

I say Friends. I say that because I'm in a similar situation.
I have been with the guild I'm with since the start, and most of the members for over 3 years now. I have met a majority of them in person, some have even been to my house and they live all over the country.
My guild hasn't even stepped into Kara yet, and sometimes that aggravates the hell out of me because I'm ready for it and I want to progress, but then I look back at all the stupid yet fun things we do as a guild and that's why I stay.
No - you're not ready. You're gonna step in Karazhan without crit immunity? It's impossible for bears to get uncrushable, so the least thing you could do is be uncritable.
Epics > WoW Friends. Play the game as you like it. I've recently spec'd from tree to bear, and I know when my guild finds out, Im getting on "friend" status or they kick me out, so no more ssc/tk for me :/
- But play the game as you like it.
