i would say, which spec you are on fight, then you will roll on this spec, so if you tank this fight then you can roll for tanking things, if you are retri for example on another fight then you can roll on dps things and not on tank things, it will be much easiest to roll this way
your spec on fight = your main spec for rolling, no matter your previous spec

Roll for current spec, unless you've been asked to respec. If that happens, I think it's fair to let you roll on gear for both specs.

Porcell has it right.
Main spec is something you, as a player choose.
My paladin may be prot/ret, but he's a protadin when it comes to looting if he is offspecced to ret for a fight. (Going to the instance as ret is a different issue).
It is understood I would like to roll on ret gear, and my guild respects that, and Im allowed to roll on melee DPS gear should it be a minor upgrade for everyone else. Equally, if a tanking item drops and I've gone ret for that fight, then I get a fair roll for my main spec.
Im fortunate enough to have a guild that cares about the individual, not the OMGUBERPROGREZZ!

Current spec on that boss fight. There. Problem solved.
If you have something that will counter this thought let me know.
