I think they should not be ignored but if they portray your people badly then you should try to show people how they are wrong.
I drink about a soda a month, when I'm making myself a vanilla cream float.. I eat fast food, maybe once a year. I don't watch porn. I listen to classical music quietly and in the privacy of my home or car. I don't advocate the use of the atomic bomb, and it hasn't been used against people for like... 2-3 generations.
You cannot summarize Americans by any one thing. We are a vividly diverse group of people, with characteristics that range beyond the imagination.
Also, I think you're thread is a bad idea. People love bashing America soooo much, that it would be nothing but a fight. If you seriously believe the American stereotypes, you should do some research on America, and educate yourself. Try going past the surface of what the internet and TV show you to the real grit of America. Take a trip to Louisiana and get some
Cajun food
. Stop by a west Texas diner and listen to the
locals talk
. Go on a
guided trail ride
in Kansas. Visit
Yellowstone
. Go see
Denali
. Go to
Pike's Place Market
in Seattle and have some coffee while looking over Puget Sound. Go to New York and watch people walk through
Times Square
. Very very rarely will you find
this
, and you're much more likely to find
this
.
It just pains me to see this many awesome people painted over with the brush of stereotypes by people who buy the first thing they hear without checking it out for themselves.

Ohhhhhhhhh maaaaaaaaaaaan. It's 9.30pm. I've done nothing but play FF7 all day. The story... is so... addictive!
Welcome aboard the FF bandwagon! Bit of advice - don't rush through the plot too quickly, or you'll be horribly disappointed when you can't finish the final boss and need to spend the next 24 hours of game time grinding up on crappy monsters. If you ever start wondering if you ought to level up a bit, just do it.

I believe that stereotypes are the reason why so many negative images of people endure. I don't find them useful, even for humor purposes.

Cheers for the heads up. Only boss that's been a challenge so far was the Demon Door in Temple of the Ancients, and I got it on the second attempt. Although I did grind about 8 or 9 levels before I went in. Failed the first simply because I forgot to link a Restore with an All.
All the other bosses have been easy one-shots, and that's without Big Guard. I'm up to the part where Barret and Tifa are about to be publicly executed.(Just in case I'm not the only one who hasn't played it through yet).
Cloud is 51 (unusable atm), Barret and Tifa are 49, I don't use the others so I wouldn't know what level they are. Haven't got Yuffie or Vincent yet. Most of my materia are mastered.

He only finds them useful when discussing Palestinians or Muslim culture in general.

Everyone stereotypes, whether they think they do or not. The amount of emotional discipline that would be required to 100% avoid stereotyping would be utterly exhausting.

Or atheists. Or anyone in support of minorities.

Don't need them, but nice to have for completion purposes. I think you should be fine - I think I ran into end-game about or below your level first time around, and that was hellish. From where you are, it should be a piece of cake.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Squishalot##DELIM##

stereotypes are bad.
If I had a copper coin every time someone asks me in vent if I'm from mexico or auto-assumes I'm from mexico.......................
Lets just say I'd have no monetary problems in wow at all.

stereotypes are bad.
Nonetheless, they exist. Mainly because they are an easy out for people.
Some does something bad? It's easier to say it's because they're white/black/Latin American/Asian/poor/atheist/whatever than to address the real issue.
Humans, by their very nature, are lazy (another stereotype right there) - and for that reason, stereotypes will always exist. From where you are, it should be a piece of cake.

funny you mention that :P
One of our states is called Merida, and there is a Merida in mexico.................. just as there is a Merida in spain.
See, spaniards weren't very creative when naming their colonies, or the regions within those colonies, because of that, they simply renamed our states with states in spain.
Just as there is a valencia on spain, there's a valencia on mexico, one in venezuela, and I think one in peru as well. (If i'm not mistaken there's a place in the US that's also called Valencia)
We got a state called Barcelona, just as the version from spain, and so on and so forth.
At least the british were "creative" enough to put the word "new" before every name XD

Also the overuse of the names "Victoria", "Elizabeth" and "Macquarie" for everything from streets to suburbs to parks to bodies of water to states.

Seconding this. There's a suburb in Sydney whose main streets are "Brisbane St, Melbourne St, Perth St, Adelaide St" and so on (i.e. names of capital cities in Australia).
