As does Matthew 5:28. What does adualtery have to do with conception, or even contraception? If I have sex with a woman who is not my wife, but stop before my climax, is that not committing adultery? My wife would probably think so.
Christians believe that Jesus is the Son of God, God having become human and the saviour of humanity.
How would you define Christianity to exclude Catholicism? Which tenets of Catholicism do you disagree with and which contradict Christ's actual message in the Gospels? The principle of non-violence from Matthew 5:39? The only one I can think of is Matthew 6:6 and that's held in common with every sect of Christianity.
I agree that a Christian is a person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God, but also one who follows the teachings of Christ. A person who worships Satan may believe in the existence of Christ, and his status as the Son of God, but would you call them a Christian? I would hope not. I think wikipedia got that one dead wrong. To be a Christian requires more than simple belief that Christ is the Son of God, but requires diligent action to adhere to His teachings. Catholicism, quite simply, doesn't do that.
Catholic teachings that contradict the Bible
(to name a few)
Catholic: Mary was a virgin her whole life
Bible: Matthew 13:55, Matthew 1:25,
Catholic: Mary is a mediator between God and man.
Bible: 1 Timothy 1:5,
Catholic: Praise for Mary's virgin womb.
Bible: Luke 11: 27-28
Catholic: Not all Christians are saints.
Bible: 1 Corinthians 1:2
Catholic: Bishops must be unmarried.
Bible: 1 Timothy 3:2-5
Catholic: Baptism is sprinkling of water.
Bible: Acts 8:38-39
Catholic: Infants, unable to conceive of repentance, can be baptized.
Bible: Acts 2:38
Catholic: Original sin.
Bible: Ezekiel 18:20

The original quote was "
Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining
", it's from the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976).
Heh that may be, but Ed the Sock used the other way.

I honestly think next to nothing in any religious book is to be taken literally. I think it's guidelines for people, like helping each other, not being greedy etc.
God damn it. I went into religious territory...

I love it when someone other than me SRS's the RB. And I'm extra glad it was you MyLove because I saw this just when I was about to leave for the shop:
And don't tell me there is no right or wrong way to read the Bible, and that it is all interpretation. It quite clearly says what it says.
I never even suspected you were a literalist, but I would like to know how you determine which parts are meant to be taken literally and which aren't if you're willing?
The proper answer is "I don't know". However, for most of it, I try to be as literal as possible, unless it is clearly using imagery. It has to be pretty clearly imagery, though. For instance, I don't believe that Abimelech was a fire spouting thorn bush. But, other things that others don't take literally, I take literally. For instance, creation. The Bible seems to quite clearly state it as fact. I'm as literal as I can be up until the point where literal interpretation is CLEARLY not intended.
PS. what is "SRS"

There's a religion thread. Why don't you all go and use that? So we can continue talking about what
really
matters.

My anus!
But seriously, what matters to you right now? I'm curious.

Per the last 2 pages, it appears that what matters is pole-dancing dolls, Jubilee and the origin of modern colloquialisms involving piss.

I think I'll just stay here. It's comfortable. And besides, I like pushing my religious values on other people.

Yeah don't get why the off-topic religious remarks got moved here rather then one of the few dozen religious threads out there.

Original sin.
Psalm 51 (on the subject of the old testament), Romans 5:12-21, 1 Corinthians 15:22. The doctrine of vicarious sin is repeated in Matthew 27:25.
The Corinthians passage about sainthood is merely the enjoining of Christians to become saints. I don't know where Catholics are supposed to praise the virgin's womb though? It doesn't appear in the Nicene Creed, nor the Angelic Salutation combining passages from Luke.
The other things I don't deny, but I don't think are particularly important either. For example the importance of baptism seems to be diminished considering things like Romans 8:9 or Luke 10:42. After all, if baptism is not necessary to remove original sin, then what is its purpose other than symbolic acceptance into the Church to which Jesus entrusted to the care of Peter?
What does adualtery have to do with conception, or even contraception?
It has to do with spilling one's seed - masturbation, related to the other Biblical passages I linked.
Going to post something about IVF next? :p

I was being sarcastic. If you think me talking to someone in RB about religion is "pushing my religion" then you need to take a chill pill. I don't complain when people link pole dancing dolls into RB, but look at the hostility I receive when I was to talk about something. You can go fly a kite.
