Doing 5 man heroics in pvp gear,..bad?

I got a 80 Lock with which I do mostly BG's and dailies, not a lot of instances, at least not yet. About a week ago I got asked by mu Guild if I would like to join them to go into Oculus (I think that's what it was,..the one where you ride the Dragons?). I thought, sure, what the heck, tokens, achievement. I am currently wearing full deadly gear. Besides doing nice crits with all my Lock spells (Destruction spec), I used a lot of the Rain of Fire since there were a lot of trash mobs. Well, I got exited and asked the grp leader to post the damage meter. Well, what a surprise that was, I was on the bottom of the list. SO, my question is, was it because I mostly used RoF (except on Bosses of course) or was it because of my pvp gear. If it was my pvp gear, I am confused and need clarification please.
The stats on pvp gear are pretty good aren't they? I mean decent SP, Crit, etc. Or is deadly still too low stat wise for that instance? (If pvp gear was all I had at the moment). I don't raid as of now to get good non pvp gear. Is that the problem? Any clarification on that and/or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Yes, when it comes to that, I'm a noob, lol.
Thanks in advance.

In PvE you can't just push random buttons (dunno if you did but still). You will need a good rotation and a decent spec.
Here
you can find all you need to know about warlocks.
Edit: Generally it is bad to use your PvP gear in PvE. But if it's only a heroic then it doesn't really matter.

PvP gear != PvE gear - the itemization is all different. It does depend on the kind of people you're going in with - if you're going in with a bunch of hardcore raiders, you're going to get completely outDPSed by them because you've got a lot of itemization wasted on resilience instead of spellpower, crit, haste, int, and hit.
Now don't feel bad about being on the bottom of the meter - just because you're at the bottom doesn't mean you are undergeared for the instance. The five man instances (except for the two new five mans, and you'd probably do fine in the ToC 5 man) are all aimed at people who just dinged 80 and have gear at or below the level of your current gear's value in PvE. But if you want to be useful to your guild in PvE, you should probably hop down to the Warlock forums below, pick a good PvE offspec, and find some decent PvE gear on the auction house.
Good luck!

Hey guys, thanks for the great responses. Regarding the rotation, I do have a good rotation. But, I think it might have also been because (and thanks for pointing that out) because some of the peeps I was with had really nice gear (A Warrior and Pallie). I should have written down the damage and check if it was below average or if it was good for that instance.
I was also wondering about my spec. I do have affl as my off/lvling spec. Although I can't see a reason why that would have caused more damage. Anyway, thanks for the pointers.

Yeah if its just a heroic it really doesn't matter, even if it is one of the ICC 5 mans (although sometimes we have to kick PvP geared people as they're doing 1.4k dps or sometimes less). But if you try and go to raids with it, you'll probably be kicked, it happens a lot.

Gear doesn't really matter, long as you can actually play your class.....

Your problem isn't gear related, it is group related.
Warrior and paladin, direct aoe damage.
Rain of fire, aoe damage over time.
A geared warrior and paladin can slaughter a pack of mobs in 2-3 ticks of your RoF, probably quicker. Casters generally have a hard time getting high damage on low health trash, when grouped with melee damage dealers.

I had the same problem with my rogue when I started doing dungeons, so I compromised: I enchanted and gemmed PVE on my PVP stuff. Eventually I got a few nice PVE drops, and now there are a few pieces I swap out depending on whether I am doing one or the other. That is the best bet, having a few pieces of gear you swap. Some stuff is actually good for both, like my pendant which is a Gladiator piece and has high res, but it also happens to have high hit. With a few multi-role pieces like that and a few swap out pieces, you should be fine.
