I play on both factions because of my friends IRL.
Alliance
80 Rogue
63 Shaman
Horde
80 Death Knight
and a lot of lowbie alts on this realm and others
I leveled my first toon during the days of BC and didnt really get to do a lot of raiding seeing as i dinged 70 days before WotLK was released (lol). Once I dinged 80, i joined a raiding guild, but my firends were convinced (lore-wise) that the Alliance faction are just a bunch of &*!@#$%s and rerolled horde. I decided to keep playing my rogue regularly while they leveled their toons to 80. Since i wanted to play on the same faction with them, I make a DK and quickly leveled it to 80 to raid with them. Now, I switch back and forth to raid on my rogue and then my DK.

I mostly play Horde, but I do have one Alliance 80 that I've played off and on. Sometimes it's nice to change it up for a day or two, but also just to be able to really explore Alliance areas and experience the different quests and chains.
(Worth rolling at least one Alliance char just for the Legend of Stalvan chain, imo)
Plus then you get the neat little "complementary quests", like the Horde quest in Grizzly Hills that has you enchanting the eagles with spiritual sight to use as scouts, and the Alliance quest that has you killing eagles so the Horde can't spy on you.
